Previous Entry Flag Next Entry [**mood** |chipperchipper]My first week living in Union County and I'm thrilled.I haven't seen much yet, but there are a few things I'm super impressed with:1. I LOVE the way people really go out of their way to decorate for Halloween around here. Two homes in particular were like visiting a spookhouse, complete with fog! 2. The Shop Rite in Garwood rules! A ton of organic produce, plus raw/cultured sauerkraut that I could only find at Whole Foods in NYC prior! 3. The Union Plaza Diner!! Wow, the menu is at least 20 pages long. Sunday I ate there for both breakfast and dinner. The options are wonderful for the health conscious. I had the option of having carrots in my egg omelette! And for dinner I love their organic salad with salmon. Very happy living in this area :)

I lived in Garwood on Third Ave. for almost 3 years before I moved to VA Beach. I grew up in Westfield. While I'm very happy being here with my boyfriend, I do miss NJ. And yeah that Shop Rite was great. They give double coupons so whatever you have a coupon for under $0.99, you'll get double it! I miss that SO much too!Hi, nice to meet you! It's wonderful to hear positive things about New Jersey, especially from folks in other states :)Thanks for the double coupon tip! **(Deleted comment)**Hey neighbor! I'm in Kenilworth too :)I moved from Montclair :DWelcome to the area! Sorry for the delay in the official welcome wagon, I think I took this community off my friends page by accident. Probably not a good idea for the maintainer, eh?If you are looking for the more traditional dirty Jersey diner feel, check out the Mark Twain on Morris Avenue in Union. The Plaza has never been quite the same for me since they remodeled and made it all nice a few years back.--VinnieThanks for your welcome!I've been to Mark Twain and I really like it there, but the food is much better at The Plaza. Although I must say, the service isn't is really crap. I see the same waitresses all the time and they act like they don't know me. And the chick who seats people -- no personality AT ALL! And the owner is the same way ... it's very weird to me, as I work in the media (and retail part-time) and am used to being very pleasant to people and am stunned when I don't get similar treatment.
