Research paper thumbnail of Why do you want an organic coffee? Self-care vs. world-care: A new SOR model approach to explain organic product purchase intentions of Spanish consumers

In the context of organic product consumption, individuals may be motivated by self-care or world-care factors. This study proposes a new, adapted version of the SOR model − stimulus (S), organism (O), response (R) − to explore the acceptance of an organic coffee produced in Peru. The model used data from 570 Spanish consumers, and the analysis was carried out using partial least squares (PLS), based on variance. The findings revealed that world-care (S) significantly influences both hedonic and utilitarian attitudes (O), while self-care (S) was not found to have a significant impact on these attitudes. In addition, both hedonic and utilitarian attitudes were found to influence consumers' purchase intentions for organic coffee (R), with hedonic attitudes playing a particularly crucial role. These results carry substantial theoretical and practical implications for the fostering of a more sustainable and environmentally conscious coffee market.

The CAN (Cognitive-Affective-Normative) model was employed to explore the antecedents of using information sources for purchases made in destinations. The importance of the cognitive variables performance and effort expectancy in the purchasing process are highlighted: tourists are pragmatic when consulting information sources in destinations. This study contributes to the knowledge of the role of information sources in TSJ behaviour, and can help managers in the development of STD strategies and services. It also opens new research lines by considering the TSJ as a hitherto unexamined holistic process. This is a two-pronged strategy, as once a destination is the main

More and more channels are emerging, causing consumers to change their habits and shopping behavior. An omnichannel strategy is a form of retailing that, by enabling real interaction, allows customers to shop across channels anywhere and at any time, thereby providing them with a unique, complete, and seamless shopping experience that breaks down the barriers between channels. This paper aims to identify the factors that influence omnichannel consumers' behavior through their acceptance of and intention to use new technologies during the shopping process. To this end, an original model was developed to explain omnichannel shopping behavior based on the variables used in the UTAUT2 model and two additional factors: personal innovativeness and perceived security. The model was tested with a sample of 628 Spanish customers of the store Zara who had used at least two channels during their most recent shopping journey. The results indicate that the key determinants of purchase intention in an omnichannel context are, in order of importance: personal innovativeness, effort expectancy, and performance expectancy. The theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.

Research paper thumbnail of Corporate Governance and Participation Models in Second Level Organizations

ABSTRACT The creation of platforms, federations and/or coordinators as second rate organizations,... more ABSTRACT The creation of platforms, federations and/or coordinators as second rate organizations, is performed so as to create spaces of cooperation, meeting, debate and strengthening of the organizations that along with their “equals” take position in society. These platforms can be formed formally, according to the usual legal figures, or can be established informally just as expressions of emerging social movements. In both cases specific structures of governance and cooperation are shaped to make possible the coordination and the debate so as to achieve the proposed purposes. In this moment of crisis, the role of platforms is essential to strengthen and support the entities. In most of the processes by which a platform is created we can realize there is a common motivation: the need to form an entity that defends/represents/channels the interests of the promoting organizations. However it is obvious that these platforms perform some other roles. Along their own space and evolutions, they keep on assuming more tasks. The usual and traditional functions can be assembled in 1) To act as representatives; 2) To provide a common space of work and dialogue; 3) To supply the obtention of resources; 4) To sensitize the different agents; 5) To establish bonds of collaboration. However, the platforms and social entities that have created them have come to occupy a position more and more outstanding in the social, political and economic processes in our society. In each of these dimensions stand out the increasing movement of persons, of material and financial resources, the creation of intangible elements regarding its prestige and relevance and the incidence in common matters (Anheir, 2009; Manne, 1999). In this way the general exigencies have also multiply not only in the behaviour but also in the precision in the acting and the commitment with the aims to which they are linked. And so we find new functions arise as: 1) To establish the values and principles shared among the entities to shape them trough a code of common behaviour, and at the same time watching that the application and fulfillment is accomplished; 2) To establish the standard rules of acting and rendering of accounts; 3) To define the proceeding to measure and observe the acting of the entities as a whole and their control. These functions are performed following certain values, among them the democratic principles, searching , first of all, the interest of the collective and with a participative method of work. And so, the platforms also become places where common rules of work and cooperation are established, encouraging different models of work in a net, and so being able to create social capital (Bryce, 2006). As Hooghe (2003) says, the voluntary associations have a major importance in the establishing of a democratic culture . Smith & al. (2004) suggest that the social interaction in the voluntary organizations develops in persons the assumption of democratic and cooperative values and attitudes. From this focus of the rules the academic literature is wide (Alexander and Weiner, 1998; Bishop 2008; Hansmann, 1980 and 2006; Ostrower 2007) And obviously, this also gives answer to different focus. On one side, one of the currents is based in the traditional vision which defends hierarchy-based models where specific roles and tasks are given to the different actors making great differences between those who are able to make decisions, those who are able to put them in practice and those who suffer the consequences and results of them. On the other hand, the stakeholder theory claims the need and obligation to incorporate different actors in the process of making decisions. In this sense should be noted the proposal of the definition of governance shown in some documents of the UNO (Sheng,2006). “Governance is the process of making decisions and the process by which this decisions are implemented” and we must understand by this that it is created a group of relationships among the several actors in the different government levels and the several actors of the civil society. Having all this in mind, the aims of this work are: 1) To define the main functions of platforms (second-level organizations; 2) To analyze the organizing structures and basic elements from the perspective of the process of their internal organization; 3) To study de development of nets focussing the process of external participation and the relationship with the public administrations as actors taking part in public affairs; 4) To express proposals to improve the governance and participation of the second-level platform from successful experiences. This analysis is performed from a sample of 200 entities in Spain. The analysis methodology is the analysis of the indicators of governance and participation coming from interviews performed to federations. In this sense different backgrounds are proposed about the main characteristics and functions observed in federations…

After more than a half century of research, Organizational Commitment remains one of the open questions in the Psychology of Organizations. It is considered an essential factor for explaining individual behavior in the organization such as satisfaction, turnover intention, or loyalty. In this paper, we analyze different contributions regarding the nature of the bond between the individual and the organization. Taking into account the peculiarities of Non-profit Organizations, we present different interpretation for later validation, comparing results from the Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the four models obtained using exploratory factor analysis, both conducted on a sample of 235 members of Non-profit Organizations.

There is however, wide debate about the complex interactions involved in its implementation at different policy levels. Following this rationale, this chapter analyzes how the concept of participation is presented and promoted at different levels of governance programs, particularly for marginalized groups in Spain. We examine eight policy documents at 3 different policy levels (macro-meso and micro) ranging from European frameworks to Spain’s National Action Plans and programs at municipal level. We have selected the City of Logroño in La Rioja region as a medium-sized city in Spain representative of the main characteristics of this type of place and collective. Our analysis may help understanding of how policy goals are transferred from the regional to the local level, and identify gaps in the inclusion of marginalized groups, not only in participation in the definition of service needs but also in the decision making process.

The 2020 European Strategy has as one of main objectives “to combat the poverty and exclusion”. T... more The 2020 European Strategy has as one of main objectives “to combat the poverty and exclusion”. To operationalize this aim the Commission elaborate a common program that is coordinated by the Open Method Coordinators, the system that compile the different indicator as a common aims measure. The way to translate this global aim to the national level is throughout the national inclusion programs. In the Spanish case, although it has been elaborated the inclusion national plans, the Autonomies State delegate the operative program to the regional and local level.

On the other hand, the citizen participation has been understood by the European Commission as a main element to be included in the policy decision process. Considering the stakeholders perspective and although Participation is a complex concept, in the European context the citizens should be involved, not just in the service definition process but also in the policy-making process.

This research presents the participation mechanisms that are been developing to achieve the European goals in the context of the Spanish Exclusion Plans. The objects of this study are the municipal policies and acts to promote the citizenship participation, especially for marginalized groups, and the main aim is to analyze how the policy makers include the users´ participation in different levels, not just in the service definition but also in the decision process. To achieve this aim, this work is structured as follows. First, the review presents the initial searches of the social services literature used to develop a broad definition of the concept Participation. The concept is analyzed from the European Union meaning to national level and finally, how it is driven to a local and municipal context. Finally, the empirical study has been developed comparing the different mechanism used in two Spanish cities, Logroño and Zaragoza. At least, we present the conclusions, the limitations of the work as well as the future lines.

The leadership-management perspective of this chapter differs from the basic research perspective of Part IV, on why people participate. For civic and community-based MAs, institutional context and internal organizational characteristics are key influences. For religious congregations, we describe research in religiously free societies versus more restrictive ones. For professional associations, we examine whether national and international forces versus the strength and viability of local framework influence primarily member attraction and maintenance. The chapter also points briefly to research on acquisition and retention of members in political parties, alumni associations, credit unions, worker cooperatives, solidarity associations, and emergency response teams.
