While information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been initiated in the education sector of Ghana, the technology evolution and its advancement remain sluggish due to a lack of productive ICT schemes and long-running support for ICT infrastructure. With the present global health crisis launching nationwide educational disruptions and causing numerous revisions in the system, there is a necessity for developing an understanding of the effects of these technological advancements. More importantly, the socioeconomic facet of online inclusive education demands a reevaluation to facilitate the conceptualization of effective teaching and learning activities. To summarize and provide readers with an overview of the content, the purpose of this chapter is ... more To summarize and provide readers with an overview of the content, the purpose of this chapter is stated as to design measurement strategies towards addressing barriers or challenges to the effective teaching and meaningful learning of science in rural disadvantaged schools of the Mopani District of Limpopo Province, South Africa. The background section of the chapter will provide a literature review, while the main focus of the chapter will be on issues, problems, barriers, challenges, etc. as these relate to the theme of the book and topic of the chapter. Towards solutions and recommendations, the following sections of the chapter will look at research methodology and analysis, whereas future research directions related to the research outcomes will also be considered. Finally, the conclusion of the chapter will provide a discussion and summary.

This chapter will highlight how practitioners use trans-disciplinary approaches to conduct Action... more This chapter will highlight how practitioners use trans-disciplinary approaches to conduct Action Research (AR) in the context of e-schools, Community Engagement (CE) and Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). The objectives provide details on how: AR is used to align e-education with life-enhancing values and in situations dealing with partnerships towards CE and/or ICT4D matters at local, national and international levels; to promote e-learning and development among those previously excluded from formal education; AR is contributing to transformation and equity in the context of e-schools, CE and ICT4D; AR CE is contributing to improving the quality of life for all; changes and/or growth in the way in which AR is utilized and interpreted can be explored when such questions are raised; AR can stay relevant in light of the ever-increasing speed of change in terms of technological innovations; and examples of ground-breaking AR work can thus be achieved.

The objectives of this chapter will firstly be to provide a comprehensive and timely work, which can serve as an essential reference resource, in the context of a MOOC entitled Ethical Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) Solutions. It will also build on the available literature in the field of instructional technology in developing countries, specifically as applicable in the emerging areas of MOOCs and ICT4D. Finally, future research directions within the domains related to these dynamic topics and fields will be suggested.

The chapter specifically discusses research integrity in the context of a MOOC entitled Ethical Information and Communication Technologies for Development Solutions.

The decrease in the cost of ICT devices has seen a steady increase in ICT users connecting to cyb... more The decrease in the cost of ICT devices has seen a steady increase in ICT users connecting to cyberspace. The number of cyber users has increased over the years and across the globe. One group of cyber users that actively participates in cyberspace are the youth (school learners) that use cyberspace or education and socializing. However, school learners do not have the required cyber safety awareness, skills and knowledge to protect themselves and their information in cyberspace. These cyber users participate on social media sites, on instant messaging forums and use the web to gather information. Being a cyber user has numerous advantages for any cyber user. However, these cyber users are also exposed to a wide range of cyber dangers within cyberspace. It is therefore vital that all cyber users in cyberspace be aware of various negative cyber incidents that can occur. Examples of such incidents include identity theft, hacking, sexting and the receiving of unwanted material. It is therefore vital that all cyber users be aware of the cyber risks and threats and know how to address or avoid a cyber threat. This research aims to (1) identify different building blocks that are needed to establish and grow a cyber safety culture in South Africa, (2) identify the different cyber safety topics to include in the cyber safety curriculum, (3) identify the 21st century learning skills that underpin cyber safety awareness, education, knowledge and skills development, and lastly, (4) provide a presentation method for a cyber safety approach.
