This paper describes the pathological lesions of CCP that occurred in a flock of sheep from Northern Paraná, Southern Brazil. Seven, cross-breed Merino sheep, out of a flock of 14 were affected. Most of these animals demonstrated muscular tremors, nervous symptoms, difficult breathing, and died within 24-48 after the onset of clinical signs. Gross lesions were characterized by generalized icterus, hemoglobinuria, dark colored kidneys, and a softened spleen. Histological findings included tubular renal necrosis, centrilobular hepatic necrosis, and status spongiosis of the white matter of the brain; toxicological evaluation of the liver confirmed CCP. Intoxicação crônica por cobre (ICC) é uma doença severa de ocorrência mundial. Este artigo descreve as alterações patológicas de ICC que ocorreram em um rebanho de ovinos no norte do Paraná, Brasil. Dogs were randomly allocated in two groups: GI, acepromazine and butorphanol (0,05 mg.kg 1 and 0,4 mg.kg 1, respectively, i.m.) and, GII, acepromazine and phetidine (0,05 mg.kg 1and 4 mg.kg 1, respectively, i.m.). Anesthesia was induced by administration of propofol (5 mg.kg 1) and maintained by the use of sevoflurane delivered in a 100% oxygen circuit. Plasma concentrations of cortisol and glucose were measured during several surgical procedures: T0, before preanesthetic medication; T1, 20 minutes after preanesthetic medication; T2, at skin incision; T3, at periostal stimulation; and, T4, at skin suture. Concentrations of plasma glucose were not significantly different between the surgical procedures and between the two groups evaluated. Concentrations of plasma cortisol were significantly hig...

Differential diagnoses of frequently occurring gross lesions in cattle that could be easily confused with bovine tuberculosis are discussed, and a comparative analysis of M. bovis induced tuberculosis lesions in wildlife is made.

This report describes the radiological and pathological findings of this abnormality in a dead still birth mongrel. The dog demonstrated a cleft at the dorsal region of the thoracic vertebrate column, which resulted in exposition and protrusion of the spinal cord and the meninges. Plain radiographs of the ventral-dorsal of the vertebrate column revealed a defect in the fusion of the dorsal spinous processes of the distal thoracic vertebrates (T6 – T13); while the right-lateral view revealed xyphosis of the entire lumbar region of the spine. This report describes findings on the proteins released during in vitro cultivation of adult Dirofilaria immitis , the causative agent of canine and feline heartworm disease. Differences in protein secretion among nematodes in vivo may relate to the ecological niche of each parasite and the pathological changes that they induce. The proteins in the secretions of cultured adult worms were run on Tris-Glycine gels, bands separated and peptides from each band analysed by ultra mass spectrometry and compared with a FastA dataset of predicted tryptic peptides derived from a genome sequence of D. immitis. This study identified 110 proteins. Of these proteins, 52 were unique to D. immitis . A total of 23 (44%) were recognized as proteins likely...

Fecal (n=66) and serum (n=182) samples from nine farms located in four different cities were analyzed by silver stained-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (ss-PAGE), RT-PCR assay, virus isolation, and counterimmunoelectroosmophoresis (CIE). Rotavirus group A seropositivity occurred in 5.49% (10/182) of serum samples of ostriches originated from two farms. Only 9.09% (6/66) of fecal samples from ostriches with diarrhea maintained in one farm were positive by ss-PAGE, RT-PCR, and virus isolation. The G (VP7) and P (VP4) genotypes of rotavirus wild strains isolated in cell culture were determined by multiplex-nested PCR. The genotyping identified two rotavirus strains: G6P[1] and G10P[1]. In three rotavirus strains it was only possible to identify the P type; one strain being P[1] and two strains that presented the combination of P[1]+P[7]. These findings mi...

CDV-induced changes affected the gray and white matter of the forebrain while sparing the hindbrain. Histologically, there was necrosis with destruction of the nervous parenchyma due to an influx of inflammatory and reactive cells associated with eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies within glial cells. Positive immunoreactivity against CDV antigens was predominantly observed within astrocytes and neurons. RT-PCR was used to amplify CDV-specific amplicons from brain fragments. These findings suggest the participation of CDV in the etiopathogenesis of these lesions.
