Formulating new Federated Learning-oriented strategies key design aspects and open research issues (e.g. resource optimization, reliability) are presented from an empirical research view. Controlled experiments at the level of simulation or real-life data sets indicate that FL-based communication schemes become context- and mobility- aware with the mission of optimizing the decisions of each design. Also, empirical research results present a goodness of fit of FL schemes into hybrid, multilayer communication systems as they are emerging in mobile-cloud networks, 5G, and IOT.

With the recent development of technology, people with visual disabilities are given the opportunity to use special equipment and applications, in order to actively participate in the activities of daily life. The operation of those devices and the corresponding applications is mainly based on stimuli that can be perceived by people with severe vision problems using other senses, such as touch and hearing. In this context, five applications for mobile devices were implemented, in order to investigate their usability for visually impaired users. These applications utilize the vibration of a mobile deviceand the HTML5 vibration API in such a way that it maximizes the haptic feedback to the user.

The proposed controller with the Internet of Things and the application’s capabilities, provides remote control and supervision of a building’s heating and lighting system from around the world. The proposed system can record temperature, humidity, and room lighting in a graph that can be used by any site, and the measurements are available for any use. Heating control is achieved by using an electric valve in the heating circuit, whereas lighting control is achieved by using two relays. The ESP8266 is used to connect the circuit to the internet, while the main microcontroller is the Arduino NANO. In addition, the present work addresses both the problems of energy consumption in a building, which is solved by the construction, thermal and visual comfort, and the new technology of Internet of Things. The design and construction of the PCB, the development of the application, as well as the programming method of the microcontrollers along with their programs are included. The aim of this paper is the use of cutting-edge technology in tertiary sector buildings for energy saving and possible upgrading of the energy class of the building. Finally, in the conclusion of this work suggests are given for new expansions that can be easily added to the existing construction.

However, access to written information like texts, images and graphics is still severely limited for people with visual impairments. The massive spread of smart phones has inspired developers to take advantage of the touch screen technology for developing aids for people with visual impairments, particularly by incorporating vibro-tactile stimulation to convey patterns on their surfaces. This paper describes a procedure for creating tactile interfaces for android smart phones. The procedure uses the HTML5 Vibration API and the JavaScript programming language to create vibration patterns in order to increase the interaction between visually impaired people with their smart phones. Experiments were performed only on blindfolded candidates, who are requested to identify the difference between various vibration patters on their smart phones.

Virtualization techniques can create a virtual environment identical to the real one, giving to the user the feeling of actually being there. The aim of haptic systems is to enhance the degree of immersion into a virtual environment by intensifying the skill of physical interaction with people and objects in the distant space. The advancement of cellular networks enables haptic data transmission over high data rate and low latency wireless communication to create ambient haptic experience. The contribution of this research is to describe how XR and haptics are able to reshape tourism industry and present insights for tourism involved parties.

The specifications of the fifth generation networks promise such capabilities to allow uninterrupted data transmission of the demanding haptic information in every environment. The most challenging characteristic that need to be addressed is to minimize the latency up to 1 ms in order to achieve successful data delivery.
