This article dives into the integration of Digital Twins into manufacturing systems, with a particular focus on their role in training engineers and technicians for real-world challenges, especially in the stone sector dimension. In a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, having up-to-date information of a high q... more In a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, having up-to-date information of a high quality is one of the main assets that organisations can have, enabling them to choose the best strategies that will grant competitive advantage, resilience and consequently drive success. The present research aims to understand the contribution of information systems (IS) for strategy, what benefits organisations can achieve through the effective implementation of IS and in which resources organisations should invest, as a way to maximise those benefits and to mitigate the risks associated with IS implementation. The methodology uses data gathered through a questionnaire and analysis is done using structure equation modelling. The results obtained show that the IS have a positive impact in organisations' strategy and that the investments made by organisations in IS implementation are influenced by the benefits and risks perceived by using IS.

This research aims to conceptualize a service blueprinting framework to map the digital interacti... more This research aims to conceptualize a service blueprinting framework to map the digital interaction and shared access to service system resources in Industry 4.0 operations. From the literature review we found that in Industry 4.0 operations, customer and provider are value co-creators, and thus, mapping the service process using such service blueprinting becomes useful to boost new dynamics generating positive and measurable innovation outcomes using either quantitative or qualitative indicators, indexed to the different stakeholders' concerns. As recommended by the of Service Science, wealth comes from service innovation among service systems, so, it is necessary to know at the outset which resources are involved in value propositions along the service process. With this research, we have conceptualized an innovative service blueprinting framework for the digital innovation to visualize the bridge between the physical world and the virtual world in Industry 4.0 operations.

Clinical interest in HRV was sparked by the 1973 report of Wheeler and Watking, who first drew at... more Clinical interest in HRV was sparked by the 1973 report of Wheeler and Watking, who first drew attention to cardiac vagal innervations as the mediation of HRV and its potential value as a clinical test of cardiovascular function HRV varies with age, gender, cardiac diseases, nutritional status with different drugs and in response to a number of other factors, such as diabetic autonomic neuropathy. In addition gender has a strong influence on mechanism on HRV. However the influence of gender and the underlying mechanisms has not yet been determined, till date no work has been conducted to understand the role of gender on HRV. This is a cross sectional study conducted in Jan-March 2010 with a sample size of 86 (43 male, 43 Female) was calculated based on the results of a study done on similar subjects. The temperature of the laboratory was kept between 25 o c-28 o c and lights subdued. The subjects were asked to void urine before testing and made to sit in the lab comfortably to accustom to the new environment. ECG electrodes were connected for lead II. Baseline Heart Rate and Blood Pressure were recorded. Then at supine rest with the eyes closed and relaxed position, lead II ECG was acquired at the rate of 200 samples/second for 10minutes with the normal breath rate of 12-18/min using RMS Polyrite D hardware, INDIA, which is the data acquisition system. There was no significant difference in time domain measures of HRV in between male and females. But in frequency domain analysis Higher LF power, TP, LF/HF ratio and Lower LF values is seen in females.

This work presents the development of a free software designed to manage irrigation of perennial ... more This work presents the development of a free software designed to manage irrigation of perennial crops using a pocket PC (PDA) with integrated GPS. The aim is to provide a solution for irrigation management that can be used in a large-scale basis, in different regions of the country at low-cost implementation. Pressure readings from tensiometers are the inputs of the software to be able to inform if irrigation is needed and how long the water should be supplied. Soil water retention mapping can be done in situ, by means of the Vincenty equation combined with GPS coordinates to calculate the distance between two points. In this manner, the soil physical property can be delimited. The regions are stored in a relational database and their characteristic can be retrieved by consulting one or more attributes. The software also has a module of isometric visualization that enables to distinguish the three dimensions of the plots using bi-dimensional graphic processing.

Neste estudo foram utilizados dados de 42 planos de manejo florestal (PMF), protocolados no Insti... more Neste estudo foram utilizados dados de 42 planos de manejo florestal (PMF), protocolados no Instituto Estadual de Florestas no período de 1992 a 1998, com o objetivo de realizar a análise documental através de indicadores e verificadores de sustentabilidade de fácil aplicação, pertencentes à estrutura básica de um plano de manejo, conforme normas legais vigentes no Estado de Minas Gerais. Portanto, inicialmente fez-se a padronização de procedimentos referentes a todas as etapas de um PMF, tendo como base as exigências legais do Estado, de onde se originou a lista de checagem (check list) e, conseqüentemente, os indicadores e verificadores utilizados na análise documental dos PMF. Constatou-se que a ausência de um roteiro básico para elaboração dos PMF compromete a análise documental prévia para protocolo institucional e que houve deficiência institucional na análise documental e técnica dos planos de manejo. Among all the available digital technologies and aiming to optimize the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) supply chain, the Building Information Modelling (BIM) is becoming officially mandatory worldwide. Oriented to a zero-waste, zero-ecological footprint and reduced time to execute the constructions, from the BIM, emerges a new procurement model which will affect many sectors integrating this supply chain, especially those more traditional and fragmented ones, such as the Ornamental Stone sector (OS). Addressing this problem through the Service Science perspective, the objective of this research was to conceptualize an Empirical Framework (EF), to evaluate the impact of the Industry4.0 operations on the Time-to-Deliver the products in a digital marketplace context. By applying this EF to a case study related to the Ornamental Stone in Portugal, it was found a positive impact of Industry 4.0 operations on the delivery time in the digital marketplace context.

BIM (Building Information Modelling) technological push has enabled to integrate the design/const... more BIM (Building Information Modelling) technological push has enabled to integrate the design/construction outcomes of 3D-CAD along the product/service AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) SC (supply chain) through an intelligent DMS (Data Management System) based on standard and interoperable data formats. The proposed end-to-end approach overcomes a typical AEC gap, enables the operationalisation of the sustainable/green building LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and puts together new collaborative relationships with the owner, among SC stakeholders and with new forms of BIM procurement. The outlined collaborative business model is based on the Quality Control and Assurance framework and provides conceptual consistency to the reintroduction of the owner concerns/satisfaction in the SC, as well as enables consistent and accountable relationships between (smart)materials procurement and building specification. An expert's focus group carried out a preliminary check of the model's interest/applicability, resulting in recommendations for its further detailing and for propositions development into a systematic enquiring process.

Na AP, a utilização de práticas e soluções de tecnologia de informação proporciona o aumento do nível de informação sobre as etapas de produção, o que permite tomar decisões com mais rapidez e segurança. Porém, o custo para a implantação de soluções de tecnologia de informação (TI) complexas e integradas pode se tornar muito elevado. Soluções de TI baseadas na utilização de Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) possibilitam que a AP seja aplicada em uma propriedade rural sem exigir grandes investimentos ou mudanças drásticas nos processos produtivos. Neste estudo foram utilizados dados de 42 planos de manejo florestal (PMF), protocolados no Insti... more Neste estudo foram utilizados dados de 42 planos de manejo florestal (PMF), protocolados no Instituto Estadual de Florestas no período de 1992 a 1998, com o objetivo de realizar a análise documental através de indicadores e verificadores de sustentabilidade de fácil aplicação, pertencentes à estrutura básica de um plano de manejo, conforme normas legais vigentes no Estado de Minas Gerais. Portanto, inicialmente fez-se a padronização de procedimentos referentes a todas as etapas de um PMF, tendo como base as exigências legais do Estado, de onde se originou a lista de checagem (check list) e, conseqüentemente, os indicadores e verificadores utilizados na análise documental dos PMF. Constatou-se que a ausência de um roteiro básico para elaboração dos PMF compromete a análise documental prévia para protocolo institucional e que houve deficiência institucional na análise documental e técnica dos planos de manejo. We are witnessing a transition to a digital economy, popularized by academics and practitioners a... more We are witnessing a transition to a digital economy, popularized by academics and practitioners as the Fourth Industrial Era, also designated as Industry 4.0 (I4.0). Among all the available digital technologies and aiming to optimize the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) supply chain, the Building Information Modelling (BIM) is becoming officially mandatory worldwide. Oriented to a zero-waste, zero-ecological footprint and reduced time to execute the constructions, from the BIM, emerges a new procurement model which will affect many sectors integrating this supply chain, especially those more traditional and fragmented ones, such as the Ornamental Stone sector (OS). Addressing this problem through the Service Science perspective, the objective of this research was to conceptualize an Empirical Framework (EF), to evaluate the impact of the Industry4.0 operations on the Time-to-Deliver the products in a digital marketplace context. By applying this EF to a case study related to the Ornamental Stone in Portugal, it was found a positive impact of Industry 4.0 operations on the delivery time in the digital marketplace context.

BIM (Building Information Modelling) technological push has enabled to integrate the design/const... more BIM (Building Information Modelling) technological push has enabled to integrate the design/construction outcomes of 3D-CAD along the product/service AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) SC (supply chain) through an intelligent DMS (Data Management System) based on standard and interoperable data formats. The proposed end-to-end approach overcomes a typical AEC gap, enables the operationalisation of the sustainable/green building LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and puts together new collaborative relationships with the owner, among SC stakeholders and with new forms of BIM procurement. The outlined collaborative business model is based on the Quality Control and Assurance framework and provides conceptual consistency to the reintroduction of the owner concerns/satisfaction in the SC, as well as enables consistent and accountable relationships between (smart)materials procurement and building specification. An expert's focus group carried out a preliminary check of the model's interest/applicability, resulting in recommendations for its further detailing and for propositions development into a systematic enquiring process.
