Need An Estimate For Your Concrete Project?

Our Sidewalk & Walkway Services

Not every damaged sidewalk needs to be completely ripped out and replaced. Sometimes they can just be ground down to prevent tripping hazards. They may also just need a quick repair and they’re good to go for several more years.

Each project has it’s own unique problems and potential solutions which is why we offer a wide variety of services so we can provide the right fix the first time.

Below are some of the main sidewalk services that we provide, but if you have additional questions about your project you can always contact us here.

Say for instance you need some PVC pipe installed under your concrete or have some erosion that has occurred that needs backfilled just let us know and we’ll be sure to take care of everything that needs to be fixed when we come out to do the job.

Sidewalk Installation

If you don’t currently have a sidewalk and would like to have one, all you have to do is point and tell us where you want it and we can bring it to life for you.

Want a straight path from your front door out to the city sidewalk? You got it!

Need a curvy winding backyard path to take you on a stroll through your garden? No problem!

Maybe you’re sick of walking through the dirt and the rocks just to let the dogs through the side gate. Just say the word and we can install a walkway to keep feet and fluffy paws nice and clean.

Sidewalk Replacement

Got an existing sidewalk you think might need to be replaced? If your sidewalk has major heaving, deep cracks, and extensive damage, a full replacement is probably necessary.

If your concrete is old it may be reaching the end of it’s life but if it’s still relatively new, there is probably some sort of other issue going on that has caused the concrete to crack and get damaged. Once we remove the existing concrete we can take a look at the current soil situation, water drainage system, and take into account other external factors to come up with a solution to prevent future damages.

Sidewalk Repair

Now if there are small cracks, chips, gaps in between stones, or edges that have raised over time and aren’t flush with the adjacent slab of concrete, there are much simpler options that can be used to fix them instead. For instance we can resurface the concrete to make it look like new again.

We can also use a technique called crack chasing to repair small cracks, or perform simple patches for small areas where the concrete has crumbled and deteriorated. We can also grind down any raised edges and properly fill any gaps that have expanded.

Coloring & Stamping

If you want to change the look of your sidewalk we can also help with that! With our stamped concrete services we can completely change the look and feel of your walking paths. Whether you want to start from scratch or use your current concrete as a canvas to build your new aesthetic upon we can do either.

One thing to note is that if your current concrete is too damaged just slapping an overlay on top isn’t going to solve the underlying problem. We’ll recommend replacing it entirely before putting any sort of stamping on top.

How To Tell If You Need To Repair or Replace

Here are some examples of damaged sidewalks and walkways to give you an idea of whether you might need to replace or repair your pathway. What do you think that you would need to do for these different concrete sidewalks pictured below?

If you said replace, you would be correct!

As you can see in pictures 1 and 2 there is severe cracking which would require a replacement.

In picture 3 we have a stone that has heaved up in the corner creating a large tripping hazard. We would need to remove it and fix the subgrade to get it to the proper depth and make sure it doesn’t happen again. This situation could also occur if a large tree has roots running underneath the concrete which you may want to remove to prevent it from happening again.

In picture 4 you can see three separate pieces of concrete that are not the same level. This project would require taking out each piece and replacing with one solid concrete slab to do the job right.

Finally in picture 5, there are some steps with a large crack underneath where the concrete has settled which causes the steps to be out of code. To fix this, it would require removing the concrete in front of the step. Replacing the subgrade with proper base and prepping the ground to prevent future settling. Then replacing it with a new landing that is the proper height and within code.

Now let’s take a look at some repairs instead.

In the first picture you can see a small area on the concrete that has deteriorated and created a small tripping hazard. This can be easily repaired with a small patch job.

For picture 2, you can see that the concrete has been raised and made it very easy to trip and fall. Since this one isn’t raised too high what you can do is actually grind it down so that it is flush with the adjacent concrete to remove any potential for tripping.

In pictures 3 and 4, you can see some cracks that have formed in the concrete. Since these cracks aren’t too big we can fix these by crack chasing. This is where we grind a small blade into the crack to widen it out a little. We then clean it out, and fill it with new material thereby successfully repairing it.

Hopefully these pictures and insights give you an idea of what kind of work your sidewalk may need.

How Does The Process Work?

Let’s dive into a sidewalk project that we completed for a customer recently and show you how it works!

Sidewalk Installation Example

We received a request to replace some old flagstone steps and a walkway with new concrete that extended out to the city sidewalk. We also installed a new walkway connecting to the driveway on the side.

In addition, we also removed the small flagstone path from the back door and replaced it with a new concrete walkway connecting to the driveway as well.

After clearing the design and plan with the owner, we scheduled a time for the team to go out and get to work!

The first phase is demo and removal of any existing landscaping. In the first picture you can see the existing concrete slab that was underneath the flagstones after we removed them.

Once all the flagstones and other landscaping was gone we were able to prep the area, form it up and pour the concrete which you can see in the next picture.

After a while, we were able to strip the forms and add a few finishing touches to make sure the concrete looked fantastic! You can start to see it all coming together in the third picture.

At the same time, we also poured the short back walkway which you can see in the final photo. With our hardworking team we were able to knock this project out in about a week from estimate to completion.

Before & After Example

Here’s another example of a sidewalk project that we completed recently. We got this request from a local homeowner who said that his sidewalk had started sinking a lot and was badly cracked. It had been a frequent stop for mail delivery drivers and with every mail drop it sunk deeper and deeper.

So we removed the damaged concrete, redid the subgrade to prevent future sinking and cracking, and repoured a fresh sidewalk in its place. Click through the pictures to see this project in action!
