ushers_well - Profile (original) (raw)
on 24 April 2007 (#12797966)
A non-specific role play, snark, and philosophy community; we also like ravens.
As a note: We allow guests to comment on all topics, except for the role plays. We do not log IPs, neither do we screen comments.
This is, as I affectionately call it, the Three Ravens Guild.
We role-play, make fun of bad!RP, write, write fanfiction, make fun of badfic, mock things, discuss things, and goof-off. We're all insane, I think. Or, at least, I hope so.
Rio, Makyui, and I are the founders, so we're the Three Ravens. The name technically comes from a Francis J. Child ballad, because that's just the way my mind works. The Three Ravens currently reside in Usher's Well (another song title from Francis J. Ballad). As the Dungeon Master (Kyra), I have decided to make a world-continuity for it, because I have nothing better to do with my free time.
Role Playing Rules
- Role Playing Campaigns will have two topics posted
- One will establish the setting and background, and allow for character composition outside of a role play for safety purposes.
- One will be the role playing game, itself.
- In the Role Playing topic, to keep everything looking neater, simply leave a comment, not reply to a previously made comment. This will stop the indentation that I realize annoys me.
- In the Role Playing topic, a turn-system will be established.
- Newcomers may not just join an existing role playing campaign.
- They may, however, request to in the out-of-character topic of the same campaign. If the GM (Game Master) of the campaign is willing to set something up, then that's what may be done.
- In the Role Playing topic, players will be expected to be in character at all times.
- Competent English will be required in role playing. This means:
- Decent spelling, sentence structure, punctuation, and capitalization
- No chatspeak
- No 1337 (l33t, 133+, etc.)
- No ridiculous amounts of contemporary vernacular and idiomatic speech
* That is to say, slang - No excessive swearing (use your common sense)
- Purple prose is obnoxious to read and, while it’s not explicitly against the rules, it might still be subject to some sort of consequence
- Depending on the specifications of a campaign, more mature content is allowed. However, sexual content is to never be explicit – if it goes past the tasteful mark, it should be “faded to black,” as it were.
- Specifications set by the GM that include more family-friendly specifications are to be adhered if one is to participate in that campaign General Rules
- Mocking and snarking of other people will not be against the rules, but there are still rules and boundaries of mocking and snarking.
- There will be no making fun of a person’s dead, sick, or injured family members
- There will be no speculation of a person’s attitude stemming from being molested as a child
- If mocking and snarking gets out of hand, but is not explicit in the above violations, other members can petition for a warning to be added to the offender(s)
- MSTs of bad fan fiction (bad!fic) or bad role playing (bad!RP) are wholly welcomed (or scorned for lack of proper MSTing)
- Links to the source of the garbage is required for much amusement
- Proper titling and credit is, therefore, given to the faulty source
- Disclaimers apply where necessary
- Somehow differentiate your MST from the subject being MSTed
- Fanfiction is allowed, but no one promises to know your fandom
- Disclaimers are nice
- Give a general rating and warnings if necessary
- If you post it, then we can’t protect you from snarking or criticism or both
- You deserve to get laughed at if you write a Sue
- Original works are allowed, but not generally advised. We can’t protect your original work from being stolen by random jerkoffs (this is the reason why Kyra tries to NEVER post original works, as she is paranoid)
- If you plagiarize, you’re in trouble
- Rules listed under fanfiction writing apply, minus the disclaimer, obviously
- Spamming topics is disallowed
- Bitching in multiple topics is considered spam when it does not pertain to the topic, or it is obvious that it is being done in spite
- Do not post spoilers, unless VERY well warned, and hidden behind a cut
- Common English is appreciated, but there is room to be more lax outside of role playing and writing.
- Use your common sense, however. The Triumvirate acts at their own discretion
- Genuine racism, sexism, religious prejudice, or asshattery can be enough for punishment
- However, even without official punishment, you will still be made a target and lose full rights that a normal guild member has.
- Philosophical conversations are to be conducted with some manner of civility
- As a general rule of thumb, keep software piracy the hell off the community, thank you
- Adult content should not rise above the tasteful level, even still, and should contain warnings
- There may be a little wiggle-room here in cases of actual written stories (read: smut stories don’t count) and actual art The Triumvirate
- The Triumvirate are Makyui, Kyra, and Rio
- The Triumvirate trusts one another to look-over the community and interpret the laws intelligently
- The Triumvirate runs on a trial-based form of justice wherein they confer as three judges Punishment
- Trials are topics where only the person/people on trial and the Triumvirate discuss rule breaking, allowing the person in trouble a chance to plea his case before the Triumvirate makes a decision
- If a person under a trial posts in any other topic before the trial is over, then the posts are deleted and either a temporary or permanent removal of the person will be instated
- Potential punishments are:
- Warnings/Warnings & deletion of comments
* More than three warnings results in a trial for potential banning - Temporary ban
* After the second ban is a permanent one - Permanent ban
- Warnings/Warnings & deletion of comments
- Software Piracy is theft. Comments or topics started or centered around spreading or requesting some sort of software piracy in Usher’s Well will be subject to deletion and those guilty will be brought before the Triumvirate
- Possible let off with a warning
- More likely banning, so don't count on it.
- Crossing the line in snarking and mocking results in warnings
- Breaking role playing rules is treated with deletion of posts and warnings
- Spamming is deleted and is subject to only one warning – any spamming after that is subject to trial and banning
- Prejudice may be subject to a trial
- Plagiarism is brought straight to trial, and will almost certainly end in banning
- Spoilers are deleted and warnings are issued
- Sometimes we slip up, though (Kyra has on accident and is/was very sorry for it)
- Pornography is not a warning, it is a ban - we trust people to know the difference between adult fiction and art, and pornography.
- If something is seen as outrageous and wrong – as in, it sounds in support of something wholly immoral (for example, anything that sounds genuinely threatening or proposes illegal activities, among other things) it is not subject to trial, and is directly deleted and banned
- Also: reported, if necessary Miscellaneous
- Freedom of Speech does not mean Freedom from Consequences
- Sues are evil
- Trolls are hilarious
- Don’t piss off the DM
- The d20 is God and the Magic 8 Ball is prophetical
- The DM is very close to God-status
- The Gods of Forgotten Realms even more so
