While new generations of GPUs support concurrent kernel execution, their scheduling decisions are taken by the hardware at runtime. The hardware decisions, however, heavily depend on the order at which the kernels are submitted to execution. In this work, we propose a novel optimization approach to reorder the kernels invocation focusing on maximizing the resources utilization, improving the average turnaround time. We model the kernel assignments to the hardware resources as a series of knapsack problems and use a dynamic programming approach to solve them. We evaluate our method using kernels with different sizes and resource requirements. Our results show significant gains in the average turnaround time and system throughput compared to the kernels submission implemented in modern GPUs.

The Industrial Districts-Distretti Industriali-play a relevant social and economic role in Italy'... more The Industrial Districts-Distretti Industriali-play a relevant social and economic role in Italy's industrial organization. As is stated in the literature, industrial districts are networks of businesses, involving mainly small and medium-sized companies as well as other social and economic agents, organized in communities that are well-defined geographically, historically and culturally. Considering, on the other hand, the role of technology for the success of business, both individually for each economic agent, and collectively for the industrial district, the present study was planned to identify the characteristics of the dynamics of the business and the way in which they influence, or are influenced, by the management factors of the technological innovation process in that environment. It is an exploratory study of an empirical nature, with a research plan based on the review of the literature, an examination of institutional documents, and interviews with managers of organizations that are part of Italian industrial districts, as well as Italian researchers working on the subject of the present study. The guidelines for the research regarding the aspects of management of innovation, in the environment under investigation, were based on a management model that is appropriate for environments in which there is cooperative interaction between the constituent agents. The field research was concentrated on the Italian districts of Sassuolo, Modena Area, Emilia-Romagna Region (ceramics) and Lumezzane, Brescian Valley, Lombardy Region (metals-mechanics). The results obtained have allowed us to define several elements that are typical of the organization of business and of the process of technological innovation, in an industrial district. Among the management factors that were identified in the cooperative action for technological innovation, it was possible to identify the one directly associated with the cultural characteristics that are specific of the districts, i.e. the background of social and personal relationships.

The purpose of this article is to carry out studies to identify the risks involved in launching new products and forms of treatment used by the organization to deal with these risks. For this we conducted a case study in a Brazilian company that operates in the aerospace market. Information was collected through semi-structured interviews with three managers of the company. The risks identified and strategies for treating these risks have been organized into tables where risks identified for staff involved are presented. The results of the study showed that the risk management, in fact, contributes to the reduction of the negative risks that may adversely affect the process of launching new products in the market. The study identified some findings, such as the aerospace market shares for the sale of its products occur mainly in the phase prior to the production and delivery of these. The identified risks are generated by the interaction between the company and those involved in the supply chain, one of the ways of treating risk used by the company is to maintain the same relationship network, in addition to establishing rules of conduct for the supply chain. The release of new products does not occur through mass media face, since there is a specific, small market segment that has the means to buy the products. Study limitations stem from the inability to generalize the results depending on the method used and the interviews only to company officials.

One company belongs to the equipment layer (EQUIPCOMPANY), and the other to the network layer (NETCOMPANY). In EQUIPCOMPANY, technology strategy and corporate strategy are formulated in conjunction, and the subsidiary is involved in the creation of global products. The main advantage of this approach is the alignment around a common vision and the synergy created among subsidiaries. However, the subsidiaries' autonomy to create innovations highly adapted to a specific country is limited. In NETCOMPANY, the technology strategy derives from the marketing vision of the future, and the Brazilian subsidiary can define its own strategy, merely requesting parent company approval for implementation. This approach brings agility to decision making and allows its subsidiaries to create innovations highly adapted to local specific needs. Nevertheless, NETCOMPANY faces poor coordination among subsidiaries, possible duplication of work and investment, and a lack of synergy and collaboration on innovation projects.
