This paper evaluates an analytical method, a method through Finite Element Method (FEM) and two different physical measurement methods. It shows the advantage of FEM over the analytical method, especially in situations with misalignments. It also outlines the two measurement methods using different measurement devices: impedance analyzer and vector network analyzer.

The method requires measured active and reactive power from substation transformers, billing data divided by consumer type and global energy forecasting by consumer type. The peak active power forecasting is based on the cointegration between this variable and the energy associated with the substation. The non-compensated peak reactive power is based on artificial neural networks and uses the first difference from the measured data to filter atypical events such as capacitor banks switching. The forecast of peak power of substations permits to support the planning of new investments on grid expansion, reactive support and energy purchasing.

For this reason most traditional preventive maintenance is based on time (scheduled intervals) and equipment condition (inspection). In this work is proposed a complete methodology to evaluate the cost-benefit relations between preventive maintenance investments and failure rates of feeders, by using historical data and an optimization algorithm. The algorithm identifies the best set of coefficients of a non-linear model, taking account seasonal factors and specialist knowledge. Through the model is possible to explicitly forecast frequency of interruption from feeders, which allows searching optimized combination of investments considering reliability and budget constraints on a maintenance study.

Their equivalent circuit model is very important to allow the proper design of any electronic circuit or load that may be electrically coupled to them. Especially, in cases where the coils of these devices are modeled with a relatively large wire gauge (when compared with the skin depth), the losses due to eddy currents must be included, otherwise their circuit simulation will be incorrect. This paper proposes a method that allows modeling the lumped parameters of coreless transformers, including the eddy currents. The method uses an optimization algorithm search through a genetic algorithm solver. Although the scope of this paper lies within coreless transformers, the whole method was designed in a generic way to model different types of electric equipment.
