The study adopted a survey design and a quantitative methodology in its investigation, with data generated using structured questionnaire copies from 204 respondents within 48 manufacturing firms listed with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Rivers/Bayelsa State Chapter. Results revealed significant relationships between defensiveness as well as competitive aggressiveness and two measures of stakeholder's value maximization (economic value maximization and social value maximization). It was therefore concluded that defensiveness and competitive aggressiveness play significant role in maximizing and sustaining the identified aspects of stakeholder's value. Hence it was recommended that for manufacturing firms to satisfy their stakeholders better and have competitive advantage, they should adopt both defensiveness and competitive aggressiveness as strategic options which will help managers to satisfy its employee, community, government and customers' needs over the long term because these options entail researching and developing products by scanning the environment to ascertain the needs of these stakeholders.

Given that there is the gap between theory and practice, this study examined the extent production scheduling practices are involved in the operations of Nigerian manufacturing firms; and the relationship between production scheduling and manufacturing performance under demand uncertainty. The study involved the use of questionnaire to collect data from 29 manufacturing firms using random sampling from the population of 33 manufacturing firms registered with the Manufacturers' Association of Nigeria (MAN) in Rivers State, Nigeria. Relevant research questions and research hypotheses of the study variables; master production scheduling, operations scheduling and order scheduling as techniques of production scheduling on firm performance measures of productivity, market share and product quality were stated. Results of the study showed that master production scheduling, operations scheduling and order scheduling have above 75% influence on productivity and market share as compared to less than 40% influence on product quality. Concluding, that production scheduling has significant influence on performance of manufacturing firms in Rivers State, Nigeria, and that demand uncertainty affects the relationship between production scheduling and manufacturing firms' performance. It is recommended that manufacturing firms in Nigeria should effectively adopt production scheduling techniques in enhancing improved levels of manufacturing performance; and that the concept of demand as an input in production scheduling for a production plan period should accommodate unsatisfied demand from the immediate preceding plan period plus the forecast demand for that period.

More so, creating competitive niche in the current market environment is now difficult for manufacturers than ever. Consequently, many manufacturing firms are becoming flexible to catch up with the current challenges so as to simultaneously improve quality and productivity. This paper examined the relationship between lean manufacturing and efficiency of 53 manufacturing firms listed with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria in Rivers State, Nigeria. The questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents and analysed using mean scores, standard deviations and t-statistic in testing stated hypothesis. It was observed that lean manufacturing has a very strong positive and significant influence on efficiency of manufacturing firms. We recommend that management of manufacturing firms should set up clear policies on lean implementation and communicate same to staff. Also, managers of manufacturing firms are encouraged to increase resource commitment by investing in staff training and development so as to inculcate in them skills and knowledge necessary to implement lean practices within the organisations; therefore, professionalism should be encouraged at all levels of the organization. Again, manufacturing firms should pursue quality consciousness through capability surveillance, constant monitoring of suppliers/throughput process to ensure production outputs conform to product specification and quality standards should be constantly advocated.

The theory of technology-organisationenvironment framework was the underlying theory and the underpinning philosophy is positivism. A cross-sectional survey approach was used, and questionnaire was used to collect primary data. The Krejcie & Morgan's formula was used to determine a sample size of 262, from a population of 820 key managers. The sample size was adjusted by 10% to 288 respondents, to provide for non-responses and outliers. The hypotheses were tested using the structural equation model, at 0.05 level of significance. The analyses showed that information technology infrastructure has positive significant relationship with the proxies of organisational sustainability. The investigation concludes that information technology infrastructure positively and significantly enhances organisational sustainability. This underscores the need for managers to recognize the pivotal role of information technology infrastructure in boosting environmental sustainability and economic sustainability. Therefore, Managers of petroleum tank farms should effectively provide their teams with IT support for collaborative work regardless of time and place. Also, Management of petroleum tank farms should put in place, appropriate technology that allows effective recording and reporting of outcome for people using their services and ensuring that the selection, implementation, use, maintenance and improvement of technological solution, is included in their organizations' strategic service planning.

Thus, this study empirically examined work line balancing and production efficiency of manufacturing firms in Rivers State, Nigeria. Content on improving production efficiency by reducing non-value-added activities, cycle time and distribution of workload at each work station by work line balancing process, was also addressed. The dimensions of work line balancing were standardized work and one-piece flow; while production efficiency was measured using product output, product quality, and lead time reduction. The Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) was used to test the significance of the relationship between dimensions of work line balancing and production efficiency. The findings showed that standard work procedures in work stations' task assignments provide better work line balance and show a positive significant relationship with product output and lead time reduction. Also, one-piece flow was revealed to have a more significant and positive relationship with product quality than product output and lead time reduction. Therefore, it was concluded that implementing appropriate work line balancing in the workstations should be an ongoing activity in the production process and setting capacity utilization baselines is key to improving production efficiency.

This draws from the observed imperatives of quantitative analysis in business decisions and its capacity for predictability and enhanced decision making given the increasingly complex nature of the business environment. The paper therefore addressed the historical evolution of quantitative technique as an efficient and effective decision-making tool. The content of the paper addressed commonly applied quantitative technique in manufacturing firms today which is, linear programming and its subsequent impact on production planning decisions. The results based on a congruence of views revealed that the "best-fit" application of quantitative analysis models and tools can untangle the complexities of production and planning decision making process in order to achieve the organizational goal. This is, as literature also showed that there is obviously no consensus or integrated model that is capable of solving all managerial problem, different models such as the linear programming model have however been developed to cater for different problems as they arise. The workability or suitability of quantitative analysis is actually premised on its appropriate application. The paper recommends the application of quantitative analysis using linear programming in solving various resource allocation related issues in the primary production planning function of manufacturing firms.

The methods and success of quantitative decision-making approaches in project management through the use of project evaluation review technique and the critical path method as regards project duration and critical activities of a project, were discussed. The review found that while both methods are effective in achieving success in project management, the relationship and connectivity of activities involved in a project life cycle are key aspects. The paper concludes that the project evaluation review technique is more effective when the duration of the project is uncertain, while the critical path method is effective when the project's end time is certain. The paper, therefore, recommends that to achieve maximum operative efficiency in utilizing resources in project management, prior to commencing the execution of a project, all required resources to cover every activity must be assembled and prioritized to eliminate interruptions that could bring delay and unnecessary cost implications. Again, policies focused on improving project execution should be implemented in developing nations to minimize the many cases of failed and delayed projects. Subsequently, stakeholders in projects must be given the right, under the law, to prosecute the government, its agencies and/or the executors of projects for failure to execute a project on schedule.
