Whereas in other artistic media, such as painting and sculpture, sound evocations were conditioned by strictly defined physical and temporal limitations, the dramatic-musical representation enabled these boundaries to be surpassed and succeeded in uniting music and image with the ultimate purpose of offering an audiovisual experience that enhanced the ruling governor's image. The integration of the arts increased the complex iconographic programs conceived by humanists and intellectuals and materialized by important artists to transmit a meditated image of grandeur and prosperity. However, the ephemeral nature of the festivities makes it difficult to accurately reconstruct them separately. Moreover, the physical records are considerably reduced depending on the area of interest. The description of events was mainly registered in either the festival books commissioned by the governors and cities for its commemoration and diffusion or in the travel books. In regard to the graphic documentation, there are very few prints capable of flawlessly illustrating the events. In this sense, the engravings and etchings contained in such documentation are extremely valuable. There are also pictorial works, sketches and tapestries that were created after the festivities which gather and interpret the chronicler's stories or are inspired by the preliminary drawings and designs. In rare cases, it is possible to determine what kind of music was played thanks to the extant scores.

The different universal cosmogonies confer a great deal of attention to the “how” in all that regarding the material and immaterial form of all that exists. In the Jewish-Christian tradition, the Book of Genesis prioritizes the process of the formation of the world rather than that created, thus providing an explanation of the cosmos through the course of its organization. Many human facets have been influenced by the curiosity and interest raised by the creating process and, particularly, by the display of ingenuity and technique which demonstrates man’s capacity to overcome limitations imposed by nature and demonstrating a guiding principle. In this regard, architecture in construction which is a manifestation readily perceived by all and at all times, has become a paradigm and the figurative arts have been capable of representing this to the point of creating archetypes of great symbolic value.
