pthalogreen: Poll for Week 1

Okay, here's the deal. They are checkboxes because I know that I am incapable of choosing just one thing and I don't expect other people to be good at it either, so vote for as many or as few as you want and whichever gets the highest votes wins. If there's a tie, I'll go here and enter the number of duplicates, and it'll select a number at random for me. Hopefully we'll eventually get enough people that there won't be much of a tie. So, go forth and vote! What virtue do you want to focus on this week? Poll closes Monday early-afternoonish/ (my time) or whenever I get on the computer. In the future I think I'll poll on Fridays and announce the virtue of the week on Sunday night (my time) so that we can start Monday morning with a virtue.

Eh, nothing's set in stone, I'm open to other ideas. :)

What virtue do you want to work on this week?

oooh, nifty idea. I'll mention it in a top level post on Monday with the virtue of the week and ask if people think that'd be more feasible. :)

I'm actually not sure how I feel about choosing a virtue to work on each week -- in some ways, I think it would be better for me if one were chosen randomly, because otherwise, I'd be tempted to vote for the ones I expected I would particularly need or find useful in the coming week.

From my point of view, greater virtue is achieved by working on something that I may not have thought of, or that may be especially difficult to focus on because of the life circumstances I find myself in.

Is that making sense?

(I also like rho's suggestion.)

That's a good idea, and I hadn't thought of that. My mom has virtues cards at home where you pick randomly and she sometimes does this at her office with her patients. I think there's something to be said for having a virtue chosen for you (or having it chosen randomly). I noticed a few people abstained from voting this round, which is always an option. I've included your ideas and rhos ideas in my post today and acerbic just commented saying she liked the idea of completely random as well. :)

this is such a beautiful community, maryam! thank you. i'm excited. i really need encouragement to make positive effort in my life, and it's hard because so much stuff that encourages positive effort feels new-agey or cheesy or patronizing or religion-specific or or or. and this isn't any of those things.

Oh I'm so glad Megan. :D I'm excited for this community too. Most of the people who have joined are my friends which makes it fun. I'm glad to have you here. :)
