What's this community about?
This is a community for fanfic about the canon characters from the various Warcraft games, comics, or novels! Action, romance, humor, or good old-fashioned porn, it's all welcome.
Can I post fic about original characters here?
Stories that flesh out little-known canon characters are great. Stories that focus on a canon character but have original characters as supporting cast are just fine. Stories that pair a canon character with an OC, romantically or otherwise, are also okay. If your story focuses on an OC and the canon characters are the supporting cast, though, we'd prefer that you post it somewhere else. FF.net has a thriving Warcraft section, and wowfics also allows posting fics about OCs.
Can I post my fanart/soundtrack/pairing manifesto/meta here?
We'd rather you didn't post that sort of thing directly to the comm. However, there probably are people here who'd want to see it, so if you want to post a link back to your own journal or to another comm, that's great!
In what format should I post my fics?
There are three things we'd like you to do:
- Use a LJ cut. You do this by putting your fic between a tag and a one. Remember this, because unless your fic is a tiny little drabble, people are going to have to work their scroll fingers to the bone and that causes annoyance.
- Write an author's note. The author's note goes at the head of the fic, outside of the LJ cut. We ask that you write down which character(s) feature majorly in the fic, and pairings if any, so people can easily find fic about their favorites.
We also ask (and for "ask", read "demand on pain of modly displeasure" in this case!) that if your fic contains things like rape, torture, gory violence, or incest, you mention that in your author's note. If you feel it'd spoil the story too much, writing something like "warning: this story contains potentially triggering stuff" works too, but please be considerate. - Spell-check. This one's pretty obvious, but just to have it out there. You don't need to have your fic beta-read and edited to within an inch of its life (but if you want to, this is a good place to ask - just mention it in your author's note!) but correct spelling and grammar are your friends!
Anything else I should think about?
Be polite, and accepting. If someone's written a story featuring a pairing or a kink you don't approve of, you don't need to tell them that. If they haven't asked for detailed crit, pointing out every single spelling mistake might not go down too well either.
On the flip side of that coin, most of us writers have huge yet fragile egoes, so if you read a fic that you really enjoyed, commenting on it will make someone's day!
Who's responsible for this madhouse?
We wouldn't go so far as to say responsible, but sodzilla and the__ivorytower are the current mods. You can reach us via LJ's private message function.
