My journal is named to commemorate my regular 'zine in the APA Mutations, which I ceased publishing in January 2005 with monthly issue 253.

At that time I lived in San Diego, California. In 2016 I moved to Riverside, California, and in 2020 to Lawrence, Kansas, where I now live. In 2021 we moved to a new apartment; we are now renewing our lease there for the third time, and I hope to stay here for the foreseeable future.

I've continued to work as a freelancer, despite having several sorts of retirement income—both copy editing, mostly academic material, and writing, mostly for Steve Jackson Games. I hope to continue to do so for years to come. Not only is the added income helpful, but I value the mental stimulation of continued productive work.

Both in the aftermath of covid, and as an outcome of moving, much more of my social life takes place online than formerly. There are three people I talk with regularly by videoconferencing, and a couple of others irregularly, and currently all the roleplaying games I run or play in take place the same way. Even our thrice-yearly board meetings of the Libertarian Futurist Society routinely include a videoconference segment, which is very efficient for getting through certain kinds of business (though for other sorts that involve by-laws and the like, e-mail is better for close examination of textual content).

And that rather sums up my main intellectual interests: philosophy, politics, and economics, from a libertarian slant; science fiction, fantasy, and the other fantastic genres; and roleplaying games. The other things I would add are literature (primarily classic rather than contemporary) and the history of science and technology.
