How to Improve Physical Activities among Student in the Pandemic COVID-19 era?

Physical activity is one form of healthy behavior, an individual's efforts to maintain or improve health conditions. There are broad spectrum of benefit such as physical, mental and social if we do regular physical activity. Although there are many benefits, based on RISKESDAS 2018, it is stated that 33.5% of Indonesians lack in physical activity with the most categories at the age of 10-14 and 15-19 years. Physical activity associated with salutogenic concept which described by the Sense of Coherence value. This study aims to find how to improve physical activity of undergraduate students Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, University of Gadjah Mada during pandemic. Methods of this study used quantitative approach with cross-sectional design which held online by share google form link to respondents in April-May 2021 during COVID-19 pandemic and involved 360 respondents who were selected by proportion sampling. Instrument used in the study were SOC-13 questionnaire, International Physical Activity Questionnaire short self-administered and Social Environment questionnaire. Statistical test using logistic regression with STATA 14. Result of this study shows that Social Environment and components in Sense Of Coherence affect how a person's motivation in carrying out activities that beneficial to health such as doing regular physical activity. The results are statistically significant (p-value 0.0000 <0.05). Conclusion of this study, to increase physical activity for undergraduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, a good social environment and sense of coherence are needed.

Covid-19 virus, which entered our lives in the last period of 2019, has caused radical changes in our lives. After the pandemic was declared, the threat of the epidemic that affected the whole world caused us to change a large number of our habits. In particular, the periods when people were closed at home, which led to a decrease in physical activity levels. In our study, an international physical activity form was given to 278 students between the ages of 7 and 16. Since childhood physical education, sports and power activities figure in every person's life. As a child develops, parents send him or her to sports sections of different orientation: gymnastics, soccer, athletics, boxing, etc. The formation of such a habit as a hobby physical activity is carried out not only to occupy their free time, but mainly to ensure normal physiological development, improve the functional processes of the growing organism, as well as strengthen the immune system and the overall health of the child. With age, children may change their hobbies, change sports or engage in art and creativity, but moderate loads still remain in their lives, such as school physical education classes or student physical education classes, which continue for almost the entire period of study: from 1 to 9 (11) grade and 1 to 3 (5) year, respectively. This is due to the fact that sport and human health are in close relationship, as physical activity provides good body condition, improves mental and psychological development, strengthens immunity, has a general preventive effect on the body. That is why regular exercise is so important. The paper considers the problems of forming a healthy lifestyle in children and provides recommendations for overcoming them, also considered the statistics of public health to emphasize the relevance of the topic, also this article focuses on the pandemic (COVID-19), its impact on physical activity, pupils, students, employees and other citizens. The reasons that led to a decrease in motor activity of citizens, as well as some recommendations to avoid the worst consequences.

School is an important place for children and youth as they spend a considerable amount of their time staying active. Due to social distancing norms, schools were closed indefinitely. The present study thus intends to find out whether parent-reported changes were appreciated in children’s physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) during the lockdown from pre-lockdown periods. 310 participants were recruited for this purpose. This online subjective questionnaire assessed the time spent in 6 common types of PA and 10 common types of SB for children. The link to the survey was circulated in the study population via various online social media platforms which was then submitted using Google forms. It was found that around 55% of the students were engaged in the most common types of PA like free play /unstructured activities for 1-5 days during lockdown, however, only 50% were active for all 7 days in the week before the lockdown despite no restrictions. School-based P.E also saw a major decline during the lockdown (only 12% of students had P.E for 2 days/week) in contrast to pre lockdown period (60%). Children increased their screen time for school related coursework (doing homework, attending online classes) and for leisure (watching TV, surfing the internet, playing video games). There could be immediate variations in PA and SB in response to COVID-19, predisposing children and youth to increased risk of gaining non-communicable diseases as well as musculoskeletal injuries in the long run. Thus, educational institutes, teachers, parents and elders must indulge children into staying active throughout the day and across the entire school year for the next few months of the pandemic.

The current study aims to reveal the changes in the levels of physical activity before and during COVID-19 pandemic among students in 8th to 12th grade. A total of 160 Bulgarian students took part in the study (98 girls – 60%; 62 boys – 40%), with an average age of 16 years. The following methods were used to achieve the set goals: scientific literature review, designing a questionnaire and statistical data analysis with the SPSS software. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences was used for the descriptive statistics, frequencies and revealing significant correlations and differences according to different factors of the subjects in the study. Impact of COVID-19 on physical activity among school students: A cross-sectional study from India.

The purpose of this study was to identify the school students’ physical activity challenges during and before school closure. We used the self-made questionnaire to collect the data from 898 school students belonging to 15 states of India. The demographic profile of the respondents shows that 444 (49.55%) respondents were males, and 444 (49.55%) were females. Chi-square/Fisher test along with percentage change method was applied to analyze the data. This study results suggested that during school closure, the physical activity types between high school and middle school students were statistically different. Result also shows that the engagement in physical activity of males and females students on the basis of their residential areas were also statistically different. The statistical difference was also found in the effectiveness of online physical education classes in middle & high school students on the basis of their residential area. The support of parents for physical activity was found significant between middle and high school levels. Result also suggested a minor decrease in the percentage of selected behavior patterns in the high and very high responses categories. The result of this study is an alarming call to address some significant problems like internet connectivity, and proper access to the facilities that required close attention by the competent authorities.

The health alert caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown have caused significant changes in people’s lives. Therefore, it has been essential to study the quality of life, especially in vulnerable populations, including children and adolescents. In this work, the psychological well-being, distribution of tasks and routines, as well as the physical activity done by children and adolescents from two samples: community and high abilities, have been analyzed. The methodology used was Mixed Method Research, through a survey conducted online through social networks. The informants were the parents of the children and adolescents, 209 in the community sample and 116 in the high ability sample. Physical activity and sedentary behavior in university students during the COVID-19 pandemic

The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the study routine and physical activity of Physical Education students. The study included, by convenience sampling, 721 undergraduate Physical Education students from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. For data collection, a questionnaire containing questions about sample characterization, study routine and characteristics of physical activity before and during social distancing/isolation was used. This instrument was made available by Google Forms, between April 13th and May 31st of 2020. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. It was found that 35% of the students had their studies completely interrupted and 27.9% of them reported an increase in their load of study routine activities. The aim of this study was to identify the structure of weekly physical activity (PA) of adolescents with varying degrees of participation in school PA and motivation for PA before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. PA was assessed using the IPAQ-long form and motivation by using the MPAM-R questionnaire. Participants (N = 1257) were divided into groups involved and not involved in school PA. During the pandemic, the greatest decrease was observed in vigorous and moderate PA in boys (H = 98.52, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.179) and girls (H = 56.86, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.075) involved in school PA and in boys involved and not involved in school PA and in transportation PA. Physical education (PE) teachers should focus on promoting vigorous PA and home PA for boys and girls in the post-pandemic period. Student participation in school PA and an increase in overall PA should be supported through distance PE, which should be a mandatory part of PE programs and comprehensive school PA programs.
