Discourse Issues Three Periods of Jokowi's Leadership (Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis in Kompas.com News Text)

This research is motivated by the development of issues regarding the three periods of Jokowi's leadership in society. The issue of this discourse does not only appear once but many times, giving rise to pros and cons. This issue has even sparked a wave of mass action in several areas. The purpose of this research is to describe President Jokowi's attitudes and responses to the three-period issue discourse in the Kompas.com news text. The method used in this study uses a qualitative approach with the type of critical discourse analysis research. The researcher uses Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis. This text is analyzed in terms of language, vocabulary, semantics, and grammar (micro). Text can also be analyzed through how the text is produced and the things that build it (meso). According to Van Dijk, there are three dimensions of discourse analysis, namely text, social cognition and social context. This study was focused on the first dimension, text. Joko Widodo’s first presidential English speech on economic issues in front of international audience in CEO Summit in Beijing was one of speeches a lot of people talk about. Some like while some others dislike. This study was intended to analyze the transcript of the speech. This text analysis was based on Van Dijk’s design in which the unit elements of the analysis are divided into three parts: macro-structure, suprastructure and microstructure. The background of this research was by the responses of political elites to the statements of figures. The research problem was from Prabowo’s speech “Indonesia Punah”, which was how the discourse of response and alignments of kompas.com and republika.com. Abstract The paper presented to analyze Ahok’s speech on the governor electional in Jakarta through a Critical Discousre Analysis (CDA). The speeches are taken from his speech at Kepulauan Seribu. There are some aspects that analyzed namely: ideology and power in political discourse. By fragmenting each statement and then analyzing them deeply. The writer found that ideology and power often used in political speeches to resemble the speaker both positive and negative purpose as well as hidden agenda in a political domain.

This study aims to describe the discourse fight campaign of Indonesia President election in 2014 and the impact of the mass media as the public column. The unit analysis of the study is the campaign news headline of Indonesia President election in 2014 of Seputar Indonesia and Media Indonesia newspapers. Van Dijk discourse analysis model was applied in the study. The research result showed that in the construction process, when the news goes to reductor level which had been done by the juornalists was always changed and suit to the character and media policy including the policy of the tittle statement and the language used. The newspapers have become different and provocative. So, in the discourse fight in Indonesia President ellection in 2014, there were representations to the candidates which was done by both of the mass media, and then went to the actors' charater assassination and the distortion of the public column become not authentic. This was because of the mass media in their news had taken sides the candidate who is being the prominent figure.

Political Rhetoric of President Joko Widodo Critical Discourse Analysis

Politic figures usually tend to highly estimate verbal rhetoric and non-verbal symbols in delivering political messages to the public. A political character does not make a speech without consideration selecting words, using sentence form, inserting style and expression when he communicates in public space, whether by direct contact as well as mass media. It also happens to President of Indonesian Republic, Ir. Joko Widodo (Jokowi). By applying critical discourse analysis (CDA), it can be concluded that in each of his statement, in front of the covering journalists and communication forums towards the public, Jokowi tends to choose certain words and sentence forms in conveying ideas of program as well as giving reaction toward political, social events which direct to himself. In expressing successful subject matters, Jokowi always uses the active sentence, while for failing subject matters the chosen form is the passive sentence. Similar with previous presidents, Jokowi selects these sentence forms as political rhetoric to show his success as a president /leader of government and at once to cover his failure is revealing transformation programs which he promised in his early government with the Cabinet of Indonesia Hebat.

Critical Discourse Analysis on KOMPAS.COM News: 'Gerakan #2019GANTIPRESIDEN

This article is a result of critical discourse analysis (CDA) to the news entitled Gerakan #2019GantiPresiden di Antara Ambiguitas Hukum dan Syahwat Politik at Kompas.com. The approach employed in this research is the three-dimensional CDA developed by Norman Fairclough. The purposes of this research are to describe the micro, mezzo, and macro as well as the social, political and cultural situation from the linguistic aspects in Gerakan #2019GantiPresiden di Antara Ambiguitas Hukum dan Syahwat Politik text. The results show that there are linguistic aspects in the form of diction in the direct sentences that are used by Kompas.com with the theme #2019GantiPresiden. This movement is considered as a constitutional movement indicated as a rebellion because it is supported by political interests towards their current government rival. This is closely related to the background of Kompas.com as a pro-government online mass media. It is also acceptable if Kompas.com creates a positive image of the current government. The main point of information that is conveyed in the news of #2019GantiPresiden is that this movement possibly threats the government of Jokowi Widodo who will run again for the presidential election in 2019.
