The topic of Food Loss & Waste is beginning to raise to people's attention. It is not only the problem of developed countries, but also the problem of developing countries, with Indonesia as one of them. Sadly enough, there are only a small amount of study being done in order to raise awareness or to understand the cause. The research objective is to know the influence of consumer behavior with regards to food loss & waste towards buying decision process of students at Trisakti Institute of Tourism. The number of respondents are 100 people, with research method of descriptive and correlative analysis. For data analysis method, the research uses validity test, reliability test, coefficient of correlation, and multiple linear regressions which are processed by using the SPSS version 24.00.The result of this research shows that the highest factor for consumer behavior is social factor, with mean value 3.63. For food loss & waste variable, the highest mean value is achieved by the extent of food loss & waste sub-variable with 3.34. For buying decision process variable, sub-variable information search receives the highest mean value of 3.47. As for the magnitude of the influence of consumer behaviour towards buying decision process accounted for 8.1%, and the concern of food loss &waste influences the buying decision process for 31.3%.Future research and study should consider a more proactive approach to understand the influence of concern regarding food loss towards consumer behaviour and their buying decision Kata Kunci : consumer behavior, food loss & waste, buying decision process, students
Consumer Food Waste Intention in Klang Valley: A Review and Analysis
For several decades, food waste has been a worldwide concern, but this problem has arisen extensively within the Malaysian context, seen in the alarming amount of food waste reported. This study aims to examine the relationship between attitudes towards behaviour, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control towards behavioural intention not to waste. The problems occur when the wastage caused by behavioural has become uncontrollable. Also, food waste is caused by mismanagement and disposal issue. With insight concerning this matter, this study aims to extract the household's intention not to waste food in the scope of Klang Valley. Since this study emphasises seeking behavioural intention in the depth of households in relation to food waste, convenience sampling methods were conducted to gain data from reputable 394 respondents. This study was conducted using questionnaires through a self-administered technique in Klang Valley. The Google form platform for online survey and physical questionnaires were distributed sufficiently. Theoretically, this study uses the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Based on the reliability and descriptive analysis, the hypothesis on the respective variables was accepted. The process mentioned in this study and the results have shown that the model used was successfully asserted. This study aims to contribute to the practical foundation in which the results will be helpful to identify factors that contribute to consumer behavioural intention towards food waste. One of the limitations of this research has been the biggest problem for the researcher. This study only focuses on Klang Valley. For future studies, this study suggested widening the research area, including all top cities in Malaysia.
Consumers’ Awareness and Knowledge about Food Waste in Selangor, Malaysia

Food waste constitutes more than 40% of the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in Malaysia. However, the subject is still relatively new for waste avoidance and minimisation incentives. In this study, we strived to unveil the many factors responsible for food waste in homes. There is an extensive discussion in the literature review touching on almost all the possible areas of the behaviour from both international and local standpoints. We chose Behavioural analysis as it can provide methods for recognising the perception, determinants and driving force behind food waste in households. Understanding the food waste phenomenon through the consumer behaviour is paramount to achieving a sustainable future. The literature showed us reasons people have and results from different food waste studies presented around the globe. The survey-based study guided by the theoretical framework targeted household heads from different diverse locations across Selangor. A total of 105 respondents were issued questionnaires touching on various facets of food waste in November 2016. After all due analysis along with mean and standard deviations of awareness and knowledge about the quantity of food they waste, it has been concluded that food waste awareness and knowledge are based around the financial effects and that many feel those around them waste more food than them. We recommend the need for further behavioural studies to fully understand the intention, behaviour and attitudes of consumers to help policy makers make the right laws with regards to food waste.
The determinants of food waste behavior in young consumers in a developing country

Purpose Every year a huge amount of food is wasted from food production till its consumption. The activity of food wastage has become a daily routine practice and a huge portion of this loss is contributed by the consumers all around the world. With a total estimated population of 207.7m, 64 percent of the population of Pakistan is below the age of 30. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that affect young consumer’s food waste behavior in a developing country context. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected in the month of Ramadan and Eid primarily by means of a web-based questionnaire. A two-step approach of structural equation modeling was used as a data analysis technique. An Extensive Analysis of Understanding Consumer Intention towards Reduction of Food Waste

Purpose: People's purchasing and consumption patterns have been substantially influenced by different behaviours. The widespread concern about reducing food waste has resulted in the need for environmental concern. Consumer food purchases differ from each other when consuming in dine-in outlets where different factors can result in food trash leading to a serious threat in restaurants. Food waste has a significant impact on businesses across the country; this study will indicate by understanding the consumers' behavioural patterns whether or not the problem of food waste can be improved. This research helps to know the changes in consumers' intention consumption behaviours regarding food waste in dining outlets to avoid and reduce it. Design/Methodology: This research is based on secondary sources acquired from extensive literature, case studies, journal articles, and internet searches. Findings: According to the findings, society is becoming alert to the food waste problem and are taking proactive actions to prevent food waste in their households as well. The influence of the pandemic in 2020 has also served as a warning in every outlet regarding the environmental effects of food waste and pollution. This has enabled people to collaborate from the comfort of their own homes, and they are more cautious about purchasing food anywhere they go to dine and have a strong notion to reduce waste on their part. Because of the pandemic, the community's broad waste patterns have slowed, protecting the environment in the process and has given hope for sustainability. Research limitations/implications: Restaurant food waste is India's growing problem. In addition to this, people are suffering a crisis due to the pandemic, which has resulted in food scarcity which is also leading to hunger. Because waste is one of the country's existing challenges due to its vast population, inefficient waste management methods must be fixed to minimize the possible risk of food waste contamination in households and food businesses. Originality/value: There is a high demand in India for an efficient strategy to prevent future contamination of food waste by any further upcoming situation. With the rising population and urbanization, individuals have to change themselves to a more efficient in handling the situation by understanding the problem of waste that will help themselves and the environment to the greatest. This research intends to address the challenges of food waste generated by restaurants by consumers, as well as potential methods and backup plans for overcoming the food waste disaster with long-term solutions.

Abstract Purpose – Food waste occurs in every stage of the supply chain, but the value-added lost to waste is the highest when consumers waste food. The purpose of this paper is to understand the food waste behaviour of consumers to support policies for minimising food waste. Design/methodology/approach – Using the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) as a theoretical lens, the authors design a questionnaire that incorporates contextual factors to explain food waste behaviour. The authors test two models: base (four constructs of TPB) and extended (four constructs of TPB plus six contextual factors). The authors build partial least squares structural equation models to test the hypotheses. Findings – The data confirm significant relationships between food waste and contextual factors such as motives, financial attitudes, planning routines, food surplus, social relationships and Ramadan. Research limitations/implications – The data comes from an agriculturally resource-constrained country: Qatar. Practical implications – Food waste originating from various causes means more food should flow through the supply chains to reach consumers’ homes. Contextual factors identified in this work increase the explanatory power of the base model by 75 per cent. Social implications – Changing eating habits during certain periods of the year and food surplus have a strong impact on food waste behaviour.

Introduction: Food waste has significant economic, environmental and social impacts. The increasing trend of eating habit in urban community has evidence this issues. Henceforth study on food waste management behavioural-attitude in Kuching is imperative. Methods: A questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, attitude and behaviour on food waste, as well environmental concerns on food waste were developed. A 407 respondents from Kuching city participated in this study. Results: The results revealed an association between gender and food waste management which included food purchasing behaviour (p-value=0.046) as well as influence of food expiration date on their behaviour (p-value = 0.003), but with very weak r correlations of r (405) =-0.099 and r (405) = 0.149, respectively. There was an association between age and environmental belief in the environmental dimension on food waste (p-value= 0.008) with a weak correlation of r (405) = 0.165. Lastly, education level with purchasing behaviour (p-value= 0.046), food preparation (p-value=0.000) and their environmental concern on food waste (p-value= 0.020) had very weak correlations of r (405) = 0.056, r (405) =-0.047, and r (405) = 0.002, respectively. Majority of the respondents demonstrated feeling responsible when they disposed of avoidable waste even though they intended to prevent such events. Conclusion: Overall, the result had highlighted favourable responses on the relationship between sociodemographic and community food waste generated. This finding could help the policymaker in improving their waste management approaches hence, benefiting the citizen in a whole.
Determinants of household food waste behavior in Tehran city: A structural model

About 25 million tons of food go wasted or lost in Iran which has socioeconomic and environmental consequences for both the country and the households. The main objective of this research is to develop a model to examine the relationship between FCM components and the amount of FW of households in Tehran city, with a focus on urban women. By means of a structural model, this study provides a novel approach to exploring relationships between the food-related behavior of urban households and waste control (n = 1197). Besides, this study is the first attempt to quantify food waste in Iran at the household level. According to the adopted selfreporting procedure, in Tehran, every consumer wastes about 27.6 kg of edible food annually. It is found that households with better food consumption management (FCM (have a lower level of food waste. Moreover, the results have proved that other determinants such as demographic factors, economic power, information use, ability, and motivation have direct and indirect significant effects on FCM as well as on the amount of food waste generation. The findings suggest that the above-mentioned determinants are crucial and should be considered when developing a strategically sustainable food waste prevention plan. 1.1. Statement of the problem Estimations indicate that vast amount of food is wasted at the consumption level and it varies in different countries (Parfitt et al., 2010; Kummu et al., 2012; BCFN, 2012). Consumer Attitude and Behaviour Towards Food Waste

This paper presents the attitudes and behaviour of young consumers towards food waste based on a pilot qualitative research and data published in the literature. Qualitative research was conducted with the use of focus grou p method, with approximately 8-10 selected students per group. Four focus group sessions were held, with open discussion led by a moderator and the scenario containing problematic issues. The study included a total of thirty-seven students, aged 22-25 years. Studies have shown that negative attitude of household towards food waste is not frequently refl ected in consumers' behaviour, despite their fundamental knowledge on how to reduce food waste. Respondents emphasized the need for educational campaigns. Properly selected and presented information will stimulate both consumer's attitude and behaviour.
