Management and assessment of innovation environments
This article describes and assesses the management of innovation environments, such as business incubators and science, technology, and innovation parks, resulting from university-industry-government (UIG) linkages. It also reviews recent literature in which three different methods are presented and combined: Da Poian’s 11 factors, Estrategigram, and the method Centro de Referência para Apoio a Novos Empreendimentos (CERNE)—“Reference Center to Support New Ventures.” The resulting model, named “Amaral’s Model for Innovation Environment Management” (AMIEM), was applied to five cases in Brazil. The empirical results are useful for analyzing such environments independently and for comparing them with a scoring system, based on the maturity level of each environment, which can be a way to evaluate the internal development and UIG linkages. These actors have developed in Brazil in the past 30 years in diverse innovation environments. However, several weaknesses in UIG linkages exist, and actions are necessary to promote enhancement, develop hybrid contexts and consensus spaces, and multiply experiences, creating more innovation and prosperity in the Brazilian economy.

Environment and innovation: discrepancy between theory and research practice
RAI Revista de Administração e Inovação
The purpose of this paper is to explore the differences between what the theory shows about the importance of the environment in the innovation and what can be found in its results of empirical research. The environment, although very important, is treated as a whole, not allowing the possible environmental configurations, which have different characteristics, to be identified. The general approach to the environment on innovation, particularly in the selection of innovation indicators, causes a gap between theory and practice. Through research reports and secondary data and bibliometric analysis it is observed that the selection of innovation indicators is not aligned to the environmental context, which may cause deviations in measurement. The literature review on innovation and environment and an analysis of empirical approach studies, especially secondary and bibliometric data were explored in this study. By examining the differences between theory and practice of research, it is concluded that there are no studies relating the selection of innovation indicators for the environment and that the generic approach results have no reliability. As a contribution, it is presented a model that allows one to analyze the environment in choosing the most appropriate indicators to measure innovation in order to reduce the identified differences.
Sources of Innovation: The Case of
2020
Abstract: This study addresses the effects of external environments on types of innovation introduced by Portuguese consultancy firms (PCs) in computer, technical, and management areas. It distinguishes the most determinant factors for innovation regarding product, process, organization, and marketing. The assessment framework followed three steps: 1) evaluation of propensity to use external sources of information and cooperation with agents, 2) identification of factors used most often during innovation, and 3) derivation of profiles of firms under study. The method generated tree-based classification models that segmented the sample into innovative and non-innovative firms, and distinct profiles that emphasized specificities concerning use of external sources and agents for innovation.
Influência da colaboração interorganizacional na implementação de inovações
International Journal of Innovation, 2019
Collaboration for innovation is addressed in several texts, but few bring empirical evidence of the influence of collaboration on innovation. Thus, the aim of this research is to identify and analyze the degree of the influence of collaboration on the implementation of innovations in Brazilian industries. The theoretical basis used consisted of texts that approach with innovation in a more consistent way and that specifically address collaboration for innovation. For data collection, a structured questionnaire applied to the Brazilian extractive and processing industries was used. This resulted a sample of 254 valid questionnaires. The questionnaire measured the innovation (5 variables), the sources of collaboration (9 variables) and the motives for collaborating (9 variables). The analyzes were based on the Exploratory Factor Analysis for the Motives and Sources constructs and the Multiple Linear Regression Analysis to verify the influence of Motives and Sources on Innovation. The ...
Editorial - Innovation and Organization
Revista de Carreiras e Pessoas, 2020
EDITORIAL-INNOVATION AND ORGANIZATION After all, how does the Brazilian worker behave when he needs to innovate? In organizations, the pressure to produce in a "new way" can reach the market-the competitor does it better or the consumer doesn't want that format anymore. However, it can also be formed by an endogenous profile, in the daily life of organizations, which at some point awakens, in an improvised or evolutionary way, to any need to innovate. Which of these origins is most incidental to the will to innovate? It is indisputable that other exogenous factors also pave the way for innovation in organizations. From changes in the legal apparatus, to incessant technological innovations-which appear and impose themselves, without any limit-redefining, often completely, the entire cost structure of the business. How to recognize the worker's aptitude to live with so many attitudes of innovation? Without forgetting that among the exogenous pressures for change, there are, of course, the infinite possibilities for the advancement of knowledge, especially the academic one, offering new formats of human coexistence to the organizational environment. And, there is also the issue of "personal values" that have a significant influence on the construction of innovations in the corporate world. In this context, in which there are so many variables and formats of pressure for change in the business scenario, the relationship between innovation and organization has become the thematic axis of the second issue of Volume 10 of Revista de Carreiras e Pessoa. The article that opens this edition, "The Measure of the attitude of innovation: Metric Values, factor invariance and differences in workers", by professors Nilton Soares Formiga, from Potiguar University, Bruna Gonçalves de Oliveira Freire, from State University of Rio Grande do Norte and Antonio Fernandes, from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, part of the perception that companies are increasingly trying to understand variables that can influence the innovative behavior of workers. The objective of the article is to verify the psychometric quality of a scale of innovative attitudes for EDITORIAL-INNOVATION AND ORGANIZATION
R&D-experience and innovation success

This work had the objective to analyze technological efforts and to evaluate the innovative performance of biotechnology and biosciences companies in Belo Horizonte, (MG, Brazil). In order to reach these objectives, a survey was undertaken in eight companies. Data collection was undertaken with an existent questionnaire found in the literature of science-based companies, therefore a replication process was carried out The analyses of collected information have indicated that the companies have expended substantial technological efforts oriented towards internal R&D in their majority. A minority of companies have expended less expressive technological efforts related to technology acquisition through external sources. The internal R&D activities observed are more directed to product than to process innovation. As for innovative performance, the results have evidenced that it is concentrated in the minority of companies and the number of substantially new products is superior to the n...
Factors affecting innovation revisited
2008
