INDUSTRY 4.0 AND LOGISTICS 4.0 The term "Industry 4.0" was first used in a high-tech-strategy project of the German government. (Compare [1] [2]) The term is based on the nomenclature of software and is used as a synonym for the fourth industrial revolution. Basics of Industry 4.0 (Compare [3]) are the availability of relevant information in real-time by networking of all elements which are involved in the creation of value, the ability to deduce optimal value-added processes from the information and data at any time and the realization of an information-integrated value-added process. The use of cyber-physical systems (CPS) best describes Industry 4.0. This means the integration of computation, networking and real, physical things, which provide the base for new business models and business solutions. The term Logistics 4.0 brands the specific application of Industry 4.0 in the area of logistics. Logistics means the management of the flow of people, animals and things between an origin and the point of consumption to fulfil the requirements of the customer. Relevant technologies of Logistics 4.0 are, e. g. identification, mobile
IMPACTS OF INDUSTRY 4.0 ON LOGISTICS SECTOR: A THEROTICAL RESEARCH MODEL PROPOSAL, 2018
The last industrial revolution, so called Industry 4.0, has started to affect manufacturing industries and expected to shape entire supply chain in the following years. Not only manufacturing organizations but also different service sectors need to alter their processes in order to remain their competitive advantage. Briefly, Industry 4.0 is based on using advanced technologies including Cyber Physical Systems, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Big Data etc. in horizontally and vertically integrated supply chains. As a significant part of the industries, logistics sector also needs to adapt to the new changes. To avoid inaccuracies and human to have repetitive tasks, and have rapid process by using technological applications, it is expected that job profiles, technology utilization and processes will be altered in the logistics sector. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is little or no research which focuses on solely to the impacts of Industry 4.0 on job profiles, processes and technology in logistics sector. This study is a primary attempt to investigate impacts of Industry 4.0 on job profiles, logistics processes and technology usage. To do so, in this study, a theoretical research model is presented for future investigation and related literature is discussed in detail for strengthening theoretical background. This study can be seen as the first part of the research, and model is planned to be tested by a survey implementation in the following research.
Gaining strategic insights into Logistics 4.0: expectations and impacts*
Production Planning & Control, 2020
The developments brought by Industry 4.0 have spread to various components in a supply chain, where logistics is of utmost importance due to the intermediate role of logistics service providers (LSPs) operating among different actors. Despite such a vital role, the extant literature lacks from the extensive analysis of Industry 4.0 implementations in the logistics industry, particularly for LSPs. Accordingly, this study sets out to investigate, comprehensively, Industry 4.0 projections in logistics and their reflections on LSPs by adopting a multidimensional approach. In this respect, the key themes influenced by Industry 4.0 developments are initially determined through a structured survey conducted in the Turkish logistics industry. Then, in the same industry, both the probabilities and the impacts of Industry 4.0-focused thematic statements are examined through an integrative interview survey, which also incorporates 'why-type' of questions. Consequently, this study offers academic implications in terms of demonstrating possible changes in the logistics industry from the operational, financial, and human resources aspects. Additionally, the findings serve as a reference for logistics professionals while fostering their competitive Industry 4.0 initiatives and facilitating their strategic decisions.
Logistics 4.0 in Selected Logistics Companies in Poland-Preliminary Review
Digitalization of Supply Chains, 2020
Background: Logistics 4.0 is a concept that strives for improvement of performance of logistics processes. It encompasses many solutions dedicated for both, isolated logistics functions (such as warehousing, transport etc.), and integrated physical and information flows. Their implementation usually requires some investments (purchasing technology and/or infrastructure), as well as organizational changes. Since there is always risk emerging from implementation of new solutions, companies, especially SMEs, due to their limited resources, are cautious when it comes to the decision on introduction of changes to their structure or processes. On the other hand however, SMEs are believed to be flexible and opportunityoriented seeking for chances to improve and increase their competitive edge and implementation of state-of-the-art solutions are undoubtedly such a chance. Nevertheless, they need support to increase their will and strengthen their need to implement contemporary innovative solutions. Methods: Authors designed survey consisting of 25 questions. An invitation to participate in a survey was sent to randomly selected transport and logistics companies in Września county. The study was conducted on a very small random sample, so the accuracy of the test results is DIGITALIZATION OF SUPPLY CHAINS
The Challenges for Logistics in the Aspect of Industry 4.0
Multidisciplinary Aspects of Production Engineering
Logistics and forecasting of changes should be permanent elements of logistic activity. This requires the observation of new conditions for logistics as well as its multifaceted analysis, i.e. the perception of mutual relations and impact. New logistics concepts resulting from technological development will be created. One of the new solutions is the concept of Industry 4.0, the implementation of which can generate innovative solutions and long-term effects on the industry, including significantly production logistics.
Logistics 4.0 - a new paradigm or set of known solutions?
Research in Logistics and Production, 2017
Most of the publications referred to Logistics 4.0 focus on the description of the newest technologies in contemporary supply chains applications. There are also many articles which treat Logistics 4.0 as a new paradigm. Regarding the fact that there is little amount of publications in the Polish language related to Logistics 4.0, the authors are going to fill identified research gap. Systematic literature review methods were used. The purpose of the research was to define Logistics 4.0 and answer whether it is a new paradigm or a set of known technical, technological and organizing solutions. he analysis covered domestic and foreign publications selected according to an empirical criterion. The literature review proved that Logistics 4.0 is not characterized by features of a new paradigm in management sciences. Logistics 4.0 is a connection of known technical, technological and organizational solutions. The only novelty is a mere connection of above solutions in a consistent logistics concept.
