The Implementation of Video Conference to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill

People communicate their views through their words. It is a way for language users to exchange information. It could be difficult to explain topics to primary school students verbally. They speak with weak vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. In order to address these challenges, the teacher encourages the smartphone app to enhance speaking class. She established a WhatsApp group to serve as the media for the in-class exercise. Every student participated in it. The instructor asked the students to participate in a discussion and book-based activities in bilingual grammar. Then they found the book's transcription of the short story. To facilitate transcription and reading aloud, this kind of content was altered. As a means to conclude, the teacher offered each student a picture to discuss in a pair. An Investigation of Students’ Willingness to Communicate in Speaking Class in Online Learning

This study aims to investigate students’ willingness to communicate (WTC), the factors influencing students became reluctant to communicate, and teachers’ strategies to encourage students to be willing to communicate. The research was conducted in speaking class during the synchronous online learning. The data were collected from questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, so the mixed methods were employed. The respondents of this study were 25 students of eighth graders at SMPN 69 Jakarta. The results show that the students had low level of willingness to communicate, there were four factors influencing students become reluctant to communicate (self-confidence, anxiety, motivation, students’ personalities, and situational variables), and three strategies that the teachers employed to encourage students to be willing to communicate in speaking class such as playing games, using technology, and providing a variety of interactional activities. Virtual Classroom Used by the Lecturer in Teaching Speaking at Islamic University of Kalimantan Mab Banjarmasin

Speaking is described as the interactive process of constructing meaning that involves producing, receiving and processing information. It is an important part of everyday interaction and most often the first impression of a person is based on his/her ability to speak fluently and comprehensively. Teaching becomes very hard professions in the world, especially teaching English in speaking skill. As teachers, have good sense in teaching and understand how to use technology in teaching will make themselves easier to help the indirect learning process through virtual. One of the technology can be used by the teacher as media to online learning process is virtual classroom. The subject of this research was the English teacher and the students at the fifth semester of English Education at Islamic University of Kalimantan MAB Banjarmasin. Here, using qualitative research design. Then to collect the data the researcher used interview guide. In analyzing the data the researcher applied steps of data analysis suggested by Sugiyono, at all. There are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The result of analysis shows that the implementation of virtual classroom the teacher consider that media is an alternative that is easily to support the distance learning process through online or virtual. But in other cases in teaching speaking, the teacher cannot observe how the development of students' speaking skills directly because the learning process is carried out virtually.

Students’ Perception of Speaking Practice in Online Classroom Activities

Perception is individual’s feeling and thinking about something that ever done. Students should have their own perception about speaking activity that their interest with. This research is aimed to find out the students’ perception of speaking practice in online classroom activities and to find out students’ obstacles during speaking at State Islamic Senior High School 01 INHIL. This research used quantitative research. Descriptive quantitative method used in this research. This research was held on January-March 2022 at Islamic Senior High School 01 INHIL. The purpose of our study is to investigate works of scholars about the problems of speaking in learning foreign languages. We try to analyze the difficulties in doing speaking exercises in mixed level groups. In our study we refer to Wenden's statement (1986), who noted that we need to find out speaking problems in order to improve speaking skill. According to it, we discovered difficulties in speaking of students in mixed level groups. These difficulties helped us to find the ways of improving students' abilities to speak authentic materials and apply them in communication. Problems in speaking in mixed level groups were taken from the results of questionnaire. Students' questionnaire determined the effective ways of using role plays and various activities in practice. The result of our study showed that different creative activities in English classes motivate students to learn foreign languages, and improve knowledge. Speaking as one of the language skills becomes important topics to discuss in language learning process. The discussion topics can be related to the instructional techniques, the learners manifest and produce meaningful and appropriate utterances .

Classroom Interaction in an Online Speaking Class

The qualitative study aims to look into the patterns and characteristics of interaction in an online speaking course. This research was conducted at Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta's Oral English for Daily Communication Class of the Applied English Study Program. The researcher observed the online learning sessions to learn about the online teaching and learning process synchronously on Google Meet. The findings revealed that the teacher and students produced various patterns of interaction involving teacher-class, teacher-student, student-teacher, studentstudent, and teacher-group interaction, as well as mixed interaction features such as confirmation check, code switching, self-repetition, clarification request, elicitation, completion, other-repetition, and correction. Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian kualitatif ini adalah untuk melihat pola dan karakteristik interaksi yang terjadi dalam kelas berbicara yang dilaksanakan secara daring. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kelas Komunikasi Harian Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta Program Studi Bahasa Inggris Terapan. Peneliti mengamati sesi pembelajaran daring untuk mempelajari proses belajar mengajar yang berlangsung sinkron di Google Meet. Hasil analisa data menunjukkan bahwa guru dan siswa menghasilkan berbagai pola interaksi yang melibatkan interaksi guru-kelas, guru-siswa, siswa-guru, siswa-siswa, dan interaksi guru-sekelompok siswa, serta berbagai macam fitur interaksi seperti confirmation check, code switching, self-repetition, clarification request, elicitation, completion, other-repetition dan correction.

Teaching Methodology of Conversation and Its Usage in a Foreign Language

Speaking is the expression of one's thoughts in order to solve communication problems. This is the activity of one person, although it is included in communication and is unthinkable outside of it because communication is always interacting with other people. The goal of education in secondary school should be considered not language, which is appropriate for philological education in a special university, and not speech as a "way of forming and formulating thoughts".
