In this study, researchers will examine students' problems in pronunciation errors in English and the causes of students' errors in English pronunciation. This study aims to determine the pronunciation errors and the causes of errors in pronunciation made by students in speaking English. This research is descriptive qualitative research that aims to describe students' pronunciation errors and the causes of students' pronunciation errors. The subjects of this study were second-semester students of the English language study program at the University of Bhinneka PGRI. The Most Difficult Vowel Sound Pronunciation among Three Different Semester Students at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya: An Acoustic Analysis

Highlights  The most difficult vowel or vowel error made by EFL university students are vowel /ae/.  Voice happened, knowledge of pronunciation, phonetic symbols and habituation of speaking English are the causes of students' errors in pronouncing vowel sounds. ABSTRACT: Speaking language involves different skills like grammar, instruction, vocabulary and pronunciation. in contrast, the researcher only focuses on the students 'errors on six English vowel quality: /ɪ/, /ae/, /ʌ/, /ɔ:/, /ʊ/, /ɜ:/ made by three different semesters at English Literature, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya based on the acoustic analysis. The purposes are to know the result of the formant frequencies, so it appears the percentage of the most difficult vowel. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The result of this research shows that the most difficult vowel or vowel error made by three different semesters are vowel /ae/, the total of incorrect vowel quality is 75. The average of the students made those errors was about 28.4%. Based on the data it conducted that the common source of student's errors on vowels was because of voice happened, knowledge of pronunciation, phonetic symbols and habituation of speaking English.

The Analysis of Junior High School Students’ Pronunciation Difficulties in Pronouncing English Consonant Sounds in Private Course in Jambi City

This research was aimed to analyze students‟ pronunciation difficulties in pronouncing fricative and affricate consonant sounds in private course in Jambi city including the students‟ pronunciation of these particular sounds and the factors affects students‟ pronunciation difficulties. Qualitative descriptive was used as the research method by using pronunciation test and interview as the instruments. Pronunciation Problems: A Case Study on English Pronunciation Errors of Low Proficient Students INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Pronunciation plays a vital part in employability. Graduates are often unfairly judged when they fail to convince others of their capabilities due to poor pronunciation and not having the language to express themselves well. In order to present confidently to impress potential employers or enhance mobility, it is important to improve students' pronunciation, especially those with low oral proficiency level. The primary step to counter this matter is finding out students' problems in their pronunciation. The aim of this study is to identify the specific sounds that are commonly mispronounced by low oral proficiency Malaysian students. This study employed the qualitative methodology where data came in the form of reading aloud voice recordings. Based on the thematic analysis conducted, the sounds that were commonly mispronounced by the students were vowels (pure short vowels, pure long vowels and diphthongs), consonants (plosives, fricatives and affricates), silent letters, and the '-ed' form. From the findings, this study recommends the use of the commonly mispronounced sounds as the content in producing an instructional pronunciation video for helping low oral proficiency students of the 21st century to address their pronunciation problems.

Interdental Consonant Sound Errors Made by First Semester Students of English Education of Sanata Dharma University

This paper investigated factors influencing students' pronunciation. Pronunciation is one of the important aspects of the learning of English. When mastering English pronunciation, many non-native English speakers have difficulty pronouncing certain words that contain the phonemes not used in their native languages. This paper also reported several aspects that might influence pronunciation. The pronunciation aspect investigated in this research paper was the English interdental consonants [θ] and [ð], which are not available in the Indonesian language sound system. This qualitative research used interviews as a method for collecting primary data. The researchers interviewed twenty participants from the English Language Education Study Program (ELESP) of Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, related to the pronunciation of the two interdental consonant sounds. The findings showed that the mother tongue, age, and teacher instruction on target language exposures affected the ELESP students' (mis)pronunciation. Pedagogical implications of the findings are English teachers can assist their students in overcoming pronunciation challenges involving the two interdental consonants and pronunciation textbook writers should provide more pronunciation practices focusing on [θ] and [ð] sounds.

By the way the process of attaining a new language could be a bit difficult if a learner has never experienced or encountered the target language before. The most onerous challenge will be unknown words and their pronunciation, and then there appear spelling problems too.
