Two Days Virtual Multi-Disciplinary National Conference 2021-22, 2021
Information technology (IT) has made rapid changes in the field of education. This paper deals with the study of E-Resources along with its importance, types and utility. The main purpose of this study is to present basic information of various aspects of e-resources and significance of e-resources in modern age. How e-resources and in which form these are available is also in glance. Major types of e- resources and their use also explained through this paper. The digital resources available in a library play prominent role in facilitating access to the required information to the user are an expediency manner. Further one need not go to the library to make use of print formats as the digital resources can be made use of by any user through On-line access via networks or authentication methods at any time by comfortably now web-based electronic resources have become most popular tools in academic research. Keywords: e-Resources, e-books, e- journals, e-magazine, e-thesis and dissertation (ETD), enews papers.
General Background: "Change is the only thing that never changes in this world". In recent era communication and cyber revolution is changing rapidly at phenomenal speed. The expectations of user become very high day by day. It is the duty of libraries and information centers to fulfill the requirement of users immediately and accurately. In this circumstances the development of expertise knowledge about the content of internet, e resources and their retrieval strategy of the most relevant and accurate sources for their users are inevitable for library and information centers professionals Information is growing at faster rate. In this stage, it is essential that the right user get right information at right time to make right decision. The information that is not only accurate, timely and relevant but also presented and interpreted in meaningful way. It save the time and also helps in increasing efficiency and utilities of product. When information is generated, It needs to be shared and communication. At this juncture, information resources play very important role to display, communicate and share information. Origin of information sources: The early libraries were defined as an institution that managed and preserved the intellectual sources of society and made then available in a systematic manner to the users who could readily gain access to these resources. Evaluation, growth of internet and e publishing industries in the field of information and communication technology has given birth to electronic resources. Societies are transforming from information societies to knowledge society. Electronic resources play an important role by providing a convenient medium and fast access to the vast range of information. Growth in communication technology, internet and e publishing of scholarly research has opened new vistas in searching and accessing information. An "electronic resource" is defined as any work encoded and made available for access through the use of a computer. It includes electronic data available by (1) remote access and (2) direct access (fixed media). According to Reitz, (2005) electronic resources are materials consisting of data and or computer programs encoding for reading and manipulation by a computer by the use of peripheral device directly connected to the computer or remotely via a network such as a internet. The category includes software application, electronic text, bibliographic databases etc. National institute of pharmaceutical education and research is the first national level institute in pharmaceutical sciences with a proclaimed objective of becoming a centre of excellence for advanced studies and research in pharmaceutical sciences. The library was established in 1992 and it started functioning in 1995. The library is accessible to all pharmacy professionals from the country and abroad and provides information to the academia, researchers and the industry personnel. Library subscribed 19190 bond volume journals, 335 e journals Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe the impact of electronic Information resources on user of NIPER (National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research) Mohali. A questionnaire was used to find the answer of questions about the awareness and usage of e resources among user, to identify the level of satisfaction, to measure the impact of electronic resources and to find out the problems which are faced by the user. The study found that use of e resources was not only affected by low seep of network and reading direct from computer but also lack of enough computers in library and paid access of information. The finding of the study indicated that a lot need to be done to increase the use of e-resource and librarians should reorient themselves, think creatively and adopt the new technology to generate services and resources to increase the use of electronic resources.
The Relevance of Electronic Information Resources in Digital Era
Information Communication Technologies (ICT) have thrown forth new challenges before the library professionals. The technology has a great impact on the services of the libraries. Libraries now possess both the conventional and printed and Electronic Information Resources (EIR) in their collection. The electronic documents can be stored, accessed, and delivered as and when required. The Resources of the libraries are not confined within the walls but are integrated into local, regional, national, and international networks. This paper is an attempt to discuss the issues like concept of electronic information resources, use and impact on the collection and services of the libraries, awareness about e-resources, availability of electronic information resources with their need in digital age. The paper also discusses different types of Electronic Information Resources and their role in effective user services and also highlights the preferences and importance of online resources among the users in the digital era.
E-resources complexities and their usage
2013
This study intended to ascertain the usage of e-library resources among the undergraduate students at Mount Kenya University (MKU)-Kigali Campus by determining the awareness level, e-library resources accessibility complexities and the challenges faced by information Science students. The study employed the use of a descriptive statistical research design in which the questionnaire instrument was administered the 178 undergraduate respondents of Mount Kenya University, Kigali Campus. The analysis of the study indicated that a large number of the students were aware of the availability of electronic library resources through library notice board. However, students showed low awareness via other modes of communication such as colleagues (39.7%) for the undergraduate and 34.5% postgraduate, also only 6.4% of the undergraduate and 6.9% of were aware of the e-library resources through e-mail from the library. Many students indicated that they face challenges in accessing and using e-library resources and the main reasons put forward were lack of advanced information searching skills, information overload due to too much information available online. This implies therefore that there is a high need to improve on the awareness campaign via other modes of communication such as e-mails and seminars. Trainings and workshops on how to use e-library resources should be organized by the library staff and management so that the subscribed e-resources databases are used effectively and efficiently to maximize research in higher learning institutions. In conclusion, the study suggested that it would be important to establish information literacy programs so that students and the entire university community are acquainted with the use of electronic resources. Research methodology Research design The study employed the use of a descriptive statistical analysis research design. The population composed of 321 students who enrolled in the department of information science, School of pure and applied sciences. Using Slovene's formula the sample size was 178 students. Research instruments This study used the questionnaire to collect data on the respondent's demographic data, level of awareness of the available the availability of e-resources, and the perceived complexities of e-library resources.
User Perception of Electronic Resources in the
This study examined the user perception of the electronic resources by the academic staff of the University of Ilorin. The sample consists of 250 academic staff selected from eight (8) out of the twelve (12) faculties that made up of the university. Data were collected through an electronic resources user perceptional survey (ERUPS). Responses were received from 225 (90%) academic staff of the eight faculties. Analysis revealed frequency of use of electronic resources was low. Reasons alluded to were lack of time because of the time required to focus on teaching; lack of awareness to electronic resources provided by the library; power outage, ineffective communication channels, slow network and inadequate searching skills. The study recommended adequate Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) training for all categories of academic staff and provision of adequate power supply.

THE USE AND IMPACTS OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES IN HIGHER LEARNING INSTITUTION
yibeltala , 2012
This seminar paper defines the historical background of electronic resource and the relationship between impact of electronic resources and its usage in higher learning institution. Users use ER for research needs, preparation of lectures, and for obtaining current knowledge and it have significant impact. This paper articulate others researcher work to meet its objective. The main objective is to identify the usage and impact of e-resources in the library of higher learning institution and also discussed aims, need, types, characteristics, positive and negatives impacts of using electronic resources. The paper recommended that user training is essential for the better use of electronic resources in the library since a good number of users are searching electronic literature on their own. Dependency level of academician and skill of users to search ER in advance manner is stated as future line of works.
