On one hand, this report analyses entrepreneur activity of the region comparing it with that of other countries and other regions in Spain, and on the other hand, there is an internal comparison of the reality of entrepreneurs who live in the three historical territories of Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.
Cultural conditions for individual and corporate entrepreneurship development
The article focuses on characterizing the two kinds of entrepreneurship – individual and corporate. Their development is the result of a combination of various factors, dependent – both – on the internal (subjective) predispositions of particular individuals who themselves conduct business activities (individual entrepreneurship) and the persons realizing entrepreneurial ventures (corporate entrepreneurship), as well as on the external conditions determining the rate of entre-preneurship development and influencing the effectiveness of this kind of activities. In the study, the subject of the in-depth analysis is the issue of cultural conditions for individual and corporate entrepreneurship development. The authors of the paper draw the attention to the fact that the analysis of entrepreneurship (both – theoretical and empirical) cannot disregard its connection to culture, which creates solid foundations for any human activity, including entrepreneurial activity. Entrepreneurship is a social process which is strongly determined by culture. It depends on patterns and the values that are shaped historically on the level of a family as well as local communities. J. Schumpeter indicated that entrepreneurship development requires a favorable social climate. Presently, cultural conditions are considered to have the fundamental role in the development of all types of entrepreneurship. It is emphasized that entrepreneurship is deeply rooted in and completely shaped by culture. Hence, the analysis of entrepreneurship (also individual and corporate ones) cannot disregard its relations to culture.
Culture as an Obstacle for Entrepreneurship
This research was aimed to identify the main reasons why entrepreneurs in the city of Ibagué, who structure business ideas and participate in contests and/or calls, do not continue the entrepreneurial process until the creation of their companies. After applying the beforehand validated instrument to more than 100 students from the Universidad de Ibagué and expert advisers from the department of Tolima, made up of universities, entrepreneurs, and public-private institutions, with interests in entrepreneurship; it was possible to recognize that the main reason, why entrepreneurs generate ideas, but not companies, is the cultural factor. The foregoing is based on the fact that Tolima has been a quintessential agricultural department and this situation has contributed greatly to the fact that the entrepreneurial spirit has not been developed in people. Research Advance “Entrepreneurship profile of students at the University of Sonora, Northern Unit of Mexico” (Atena Editora), 2024
Actualmente, la mayoría de las instituciones de educación superior (IES), no cuenta con un perfil que permita el desarrollo de las capacidades de emprendimiento que necesita el profesional egresado. La actividad emprendedora es uno de los principales motores de desarrollo económico, principalmente por su función en la creación de empleo y en la expansión de sectores económicos; por otra parte, es un área del conocimiento aún nueva en el marco global de la investigación, y como tal, se encuentra en proceso para consolidar un escenario conceptual, lo que hace pertinente esta propuesta. El enfoque metodológico incluye una revisión del estado del conocimiento del tema, la aplicación de una escala de medición (Perfil e20), el análisis mediante métodos estadísticos multivariantes (Análisis de Factores), y la validación y fiabilidad de la escala usada. Se espera identificar las dimensiones y variables que caracterizan el perfil de emprendimiento de los estudiantes de la Universidad de Sonora, el cual facilitaría la toma de decisiones en el diseño de estrategias curriculares y de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Este avance cubre hasta la Confiabilidad del Instrumento y el Análisis Factorial para determinar los factores de este constructo en el contexto mexicano.
Entrepreneurship research is progressing towards the construction of indexes that integrate the information of the three predominant approaches: the entrepreneurial activity output; the population's entrepreneurial behavior, values and aspirations; and the context in which entrepreneurship takes place. In this study we compare the Global Competitiveness Index data, one of the objective sources of information selected among those recognized as descriptors of national contexts, with the national entrepreneurial context qualitative information provided by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. The main purpose of this research is to contribute to the knowledge of entrepreneurial context sources of information by opening a discussion around the usefulness and contribution that could make the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor source in this field, and to determine if it is recommendable to proceed to its formal validation in the short time. The obtained results evidence that the two sources do not overlap to the degree of substituting one by the other and that the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor provides relevant qualitative details about the state of entrepreneurial context that are interesting to complement the Global Competitiveness Index information. The conclusion is to recommend the formal validation of this source, being also necessary to make comparisons with other relevant sources and to clear up its role in the progress of the integrated indexes construction.
Redefining Entrepreneurship in a Postpandemic Context

has been a professor since 1995, teaching mainly in the areas of Strategy, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. At the same time, he has also worked as a consultant for entities such as the Ministry of Economy, IAPMEI, AIP, AEP, AERLIS, GNR, ACT, CCP, Turismo de Portugal, and dozens of companies. He holds two PhD.s degrees classified as honored (cum laude), one in Management with a specialty in Marketing and another in Tourism, as well as an MsC in Strategy, and an MBA and Ba in Management. He also conducted postgraduate studies in E-business. He led the UAL Economic and Business Sciences department. He was the director of the Master's Degree and of the Degree in Marketing and co-director of the Degree in Management at ISG. He also coordinated the Tourism Destination Management at Universidade Lusófona. Currently, he is the director of the Master in Hospitality and Tourism Management at ISCTE-IUL. He is the author of 22 books and dozens of articles in international reference publications. In 2022, he received the distinction GNR D. NunoÁlvares Pereira Medal of Merit and a diploma in Commendation. In 2021, he received a research award from the Chair of Intelligent Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía and the University of Seville. He co-authored an article on the entrepreneurship role on dynamic capabilities, A longitudinal study on Brazilian and Portuguese firms, which was nominated for the Best Paper Prize at the Special Conference of the Strategic Management Society in 2011. Entrepreneurship: Concepts, Theory and Perspective. Introduction
The creation of a country's wealth and dynamism depends upon the competitiveness of its firms and this, in turn, relies fundamentally on the capabilities of its entrepreneurs and managers. The essence of the modern firm lies in the specialization of functions. " The businessmen " that manage economic activity are, in the strictest sense, both managers and entrepreneurs, the latter in a double sense: the individual businessman (independent) and the " corporate entrepreneur " who, without participating significantly in terms of capital, controls the firm. Studying offers of business capabilities requires the differentiation between the functions of entrepreneur, manager and capitalist, although in many cases, the same person may perform all three (table 1). The individual entrepreneur detects or creates business opportunities that he or she then exploits through small and medium-sized firms, normally participating in funding the capital for that firm, carries out the role of arbitrator or simply " sells the idea " of the business project. The " corporate entrepreneur " or the chief executive of large firms must also be considered. This figure is no longer limited to efficiently managing the firm's assets and coordinating and controlling its activities; in the current climate, he or she must anticipate, articulate and manage change. In other words, they must reinvent the firm on a daily basis, creating new enterprise (spin-offs) and develop company networks. When discussing the figure of the corporate businessman, one must also consider the key shareholders that take an active part in the firm, along with managers that share in making up the firm's basic competences.
The Cultural Practices that Influence on the Entrepreneurial Activity: An Empirical Study from the Globe Project Cultural Dimensions, 2020
There are few empirical studies focused on the culture, as one of the informal factors that influences business development in a region. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of a society about its cultural practices based on cultural dimensions that are related to entrepreneurial activity. Through literature review, five cultural dimensions that would be closely related to entrepreneurship were identified, which has been corroborated in previous empirical studies. For this research, the city of Medellin (located in Colombia, developing country), which has been characterized by its high rate of business activity at the national level, is taken as context for the fieldwork. The findings show that the society under study perceives that its regional culture is characterized by a high level of assertiveness, hence its competitive nature and propensity to take risks, to boost the entrepreneurial activity.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to introduce the special issue “The Entrepreneurship Challenges in Latin America”. Design/methodology/approach Latin America and the Caribbean is a region with many potentialities. Like one of the largest markets in the world, entrepreneurship activities can constitute a key element to enhance regional competitiveness. Findings This study makes a general overview of entrepreneurship dynamics in Latin America and its contexts. This study presents the eight manuscripts that constitute the special issue. Originality/value This study contributes to current academic conversations and highlights the relevance of continuing inquiring about the entrepreneurship phenomena at the regional level. Contribution to impact This study expects that this special issue will help the region’s scholarly entrepreneurship community and others interested in Latin America.
