Agricultural extension workers play an essential role in the productivity of agricultural systems. Based on the actual conditions in the field, it can be seen that the level of extension services still needs to be higher due to a lack of human resources in the field of extension services. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of agricultural extension services andthe factors that influence the effectiveness of agricultural extension to farmers in Baubau City, Indonesia. The analytical method includes exogenous latent variables: human resources, technological progress, farming capital, farmer age, education, and farming experience. The effectiveness of agricultural extension is used as an endogenous latent variable. The research sample consisted of 110 rice farmers in Baubau City, and the Slovin formula was used to calculate the sample. The data collection for this research was carried out by distributing questionnaires to respondents, in-depth interviews, and di...

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Farmers Managed Extension Activities (FMA) method on changes in farmer behavior between before and after the existence of the FMA method in Panyakalan, Kubung District, Solok Regency. The research method used is a case study method using 55 samples which are determined based on certain criteria and using qualitative descriptive analysis. The focus of this research is to analyze changes in farmer behavior between after and before FMA learning which are seen from changes in farmer orientation about markets, economical business scale, habits of protecting agreements with contract partners based on contracts, building networks between farmer organizations and farmers who have more knowledge becomes a resource for farmers who have lower knowledge. This study found that the implementation of the FMA method (Farmer's Managed Extension Activities) in which extension activities managed by farmers influence the behavior of the community in Panyakalan District Kubung Solok Regency can be seen from the conditions of farmers who conduct their traditional and subsistence farming into farmers who have applied the principles agribusiness through continuous learning with a learning-by-doing approach (learning by doing) and carrying out technological innovation-based agribusiness learning activities.
Effectiveness of Agricultural Extension Activities

Problem statement: Jordan's agricultural extension service is seriously under-staffed and its effectiveness is consequently compromised. Reservations are being expressed about the performance and capability of the agricultural extension system in Jordan. The performance of this sector has been disappointing and has failed to transfer agricultural technology to the farmers. The main objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of Jordan's agricultural extension services. Approach: The effect of extension services on olive productivity in the study area was investigated. A total number of 60 olive producers were selected to be interviewed for this study. This number was enough to achieve the study objectives. The interviewed producers were distributed almost equally within olive production locations in the study area. The sample obtained through the simple random sampling technique. The two groups had been chosen and distributed randomly into an experimental group (30 farmers; 10 for each source of extension service) and control group (30 farmers). The experimental group received extension services and the control group received no extension services. Two interview-cum-structured questionnaires were designed and used to collect information and data for this study. The first instrument was designed for farmers who received extension services and the second from farmers who received no extension services. Another questionnaire was designed for administrators of extension organizations concerned with providing extension services to farmers. To find the differences that may exist between two studied groups, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), t-test and LSD test via Statistical Package for Social Sciences software (SPSS) were used. The average net profit obtained from an area of one dynamo of olive farm was the main item to be considered in determining the effectiveness of agricultural extension activities. Results and Conclusion: The results of the study revealed that the net profit of farmers who received extension services is almost the same as those who do not receive any extension services. The provided extension services made no difference in the achievement of farmers regarding their production and consequently their net profits. The three main investigated sources of extension services provide inadequate and less effective extension services. To overcome most of the obstacles facing extension programs in Jordan the government should impart extensive in-service agricultural trainings to train the extension personnel to cope with the growing needs of farmers. The establishment of field demonstration sites, pilot sites on farmers' fields around the demonstrations is another important issues to be covered.

This research uses a survey method with a descriptive analysis approach and a quantitative paradigm, supplemented with qualitative data information to support and sharpen quantitative analysis. The level of competence of middle rice farmers tends to be low, due to the weak role of agricultural extension workers. The role of the instructor as a communicator, facilitator, educator, and communicator turned out to have a positive effect on increasing the competence of rice farme...
Determinants Factors of Agricultural Extension Services Performance and Impacts on Farmers' Behavior
American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, 2017
Agricultural extension plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources, also it function as a learning process for the main actors so that farmer will be able to help and organize themselves in accessing market information, technology, capital and other resources. Problem that arise among stakeholders have been widely debated. Since then, determinant factor of Agricultural Extension Services (BPP) performance should be identified and how it will impact on farmers behaviour. There is a strong assumption that, BPP performance will affect agricultural development, but it is very difficult to determine by factors. The research objectives were to analyze determinants of BPP performance and impact on farmers behaviour. This research was conducted in South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia by selecting 109 BPP based on Slovin Method. The analysis analized with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using LISREL software. The results showed that development of BPP; management BPP, human resources, assisted farmers, resource of BPP, adaptation of BPP are positively affect Action Program of BPP. In addition, these determinants affect farmers behaviour in terms of farmers competency and participation through indirectly action program. This leads to argue that in order to improve farmers behaviour (improving competency and participation), it is needed to step up performance of BPP (making action program properly, in other words) through extension program improvement, groups activity plan and operational cost management.

The presence of the Government’s program was necessarily able to improve farmers’ participation. One of regencies considered as rice production centers and targeted to increase its production was Sukabumi Regency. Farmers in such Regency tended to focus on rice commodity, so it was no doubt on the farmers’ capability of managing their agricultural business. But, it was allegedly that the participation level of the farmers was relatively unclear as there were so many programs provided by the Government for them. This research aimed at analyzing factors influencing the farmers’ participation and the modeling of the proper strategy of agricultural extension to improve their participation in special effort to increase rice production. The research was done using survey approach in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, with the main locus located on the working area of BP3K Warung Kiaran and BP3K Jampang Kulon. Data collection was done using questionnaire and structured interview with 120 respond...

This research mainly aims to identify the level of impact of the agricultural extension system on rural agricultural development from the farmers' point of view in Halabja Governorate. The research population included all farmers in Halabja governorate, numbered (2735) farmers distributed over (141) villages. A simple random sample was taken from the villages, at a rate of (14.18%), with a total of (20) villages, the number of farmers in these villages reached (515) farmers, then a proportional random sample was taken by (20%) of the research population, so the sample size was (103) farmers. A questionnaire was prepared to consist of two parts, the first of which included the personal variables of the respondents, as for the second part of the questionnaire, consisted of two axes: the first axis is measuring the impact of the agricultural extension system on rural agricultural development, and the second axis, it is measuring the extent to which farmers benefit from the agricultural fields. The results showed that the majority of respondents believe that the level of impact of the Agricultural Extension Service is low on rural development in Halabja Governorate. The results also showed that the extent to which the respondents benefited from the agricultural fields provided by the extension system was low and tended to be medium, and there is a discrepancy in the respondents' opinions about the impact of the agricultural extension system on rural development according to the research variables (exposure to information sources, farmer's attitude towards agricultural extension services), while there is no discrepancy according to the research variables (age, gender, educational level, agricultural experience, sources of information, type of farm holding). Therefore, the researchers recommend improving the performance of the Agricultural Extension system by modernizing its infrastructure, developing training programs for its employees and providing the necessary technical consultations in various fields related to agriculture.

Siberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture
This study’s objective is to ascertain how big the level of performance of agricultural instructors, and what are the factors that influence their performance. This research was conducted in Aceh Besar District. The number of samples is 28 people. The method used is descriptive qualitative method and multinomial logistic regression. The results showed that the level of performance of agricultural extension workers at a very perfect level was proven by several activities from the preparation of agricultural extension, extension workers who were in the medium category tended to be high in carrying out extension activities, evaluating and compiling reports on the results of extension activities. By using nine variables (x) in the simultaneous test, the value of the intercept only final variable sig value is 0.000, which means that the independent variable statistically significantly affects the dependent variable because the P-value <α(0.00 < 0.05). For the independent variables ...
The Existence of Post Reform Agricultural Extension Institutional
EFFICIENT Indonesian Journal of Development Economics, 2019
The purpose of this study is to analyze the existence of agricultural extension institutions in Central Java Province. The variables used include institutional changes and the impact of institutional changes. The method of data analysis in this study is a descriptive qualitative method with the model of Miles and Huberman with the validity test of triangulation data. The types of data used are primary data from the Agriculture and Plantation Office of Central Java Province, the Office of Environment and Forestry of Central Java Province, the Semarang City Fisheries Office and Farmers in Central Java Province. Retrieval of data through in-depth interviews, document collection, and documentation. The results showed that institutional change was very dynamic since the formation of the institution. Institutional changes occur because of the evolution of laws and their forced nature. Therefore the institution of agricultural extension does not exist. However, so far the community is still getting a good impact from the extension activities because institutional changes do not reduce the performance of extension workers in the community. It's just that extension workers have not been intensive because the numbers are very minimal. This is overcome by the instructor by making a priority when conducting counseling.

This study seeks to establish the impact of extension services on agricultural development in Bay and Bakool regions, Somalia. The Specific Objectives of the study were To determine the relationship between the level of extension services and agricultural development among farmers in Bay and Bakol region, To determine the different types and scale of extension services delivered to farmers in Bay and Bakool communities and To investigate the challenges affecting extensive service supplies and agricultural development in Bay and Bakol communities. This study was descriptive in design because it going to describe the impact of extension services on agricultural development of Bay and Bakol rural communities. Descriptive research design is a scientific method which involves observing and describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any way. The targeted research population from which the sample was selected were 100 respondents including farmers, SCI (FSL) Extensions working in the regions, Ministry of Agriculture of South West State staffs with a sample size of 80 respondents. The findings on the relationship between the level of extension services and agricultural development among farmers in Bay and Bakol region revealed that Extensionists access different information needed by farmers in terms of production, cultural practices, markets and marketing. Followed by (20)50% who agreed, (30)60% disagreed while the rest of respondents (03)10% strongly disagreed. Responses to the question as to whether Extensionists usually persuade farmers to adopt new practices mainly because they have access to research and its results 13% strongly agreed, 18% agreed with the statement, while 17% disagree and majority of respondents strongly disagreed with 42% response. The findings revealed that Community-based extension approaches is their ability to deliver messages at relatively low cost to a large number of beneficiaries, the larger percentage (21%) of the respondents strongly agreed, 62% agreed and 14% disagreed while only 3% strongly disagreed with the statement. The findings on the different types and scale of extension services delivered to farmers in Bay and Bakool communities revealed that Economical extension service are among the major types and scale of extension services delivered to farmers in Bay and Bakool communities as this type of extension work is possible in market conditions and uses economical incentives for realization of its goals, and its efficiency is demonstrated in capital deficiency; 11(18.3%) Strongly agreed, 30(50%) agreed, 03(5%) were uncertain, 09(15%) disagreed, 07(11.6%) strongly disagreed with the statement, Findings on the challenges affecting extensive service supplies and agricultural development in Bay and Bakol communities revealed that Average Somalia Farm- ers in Bay and Bakol regions is still making use of only the same outdated manual farm tools - like cutlass and hoe - as their Fore- fathers used since many Centuries ago; 16 (26.6%) strongly agreed with the state- ment, 21% (35%) agreed with the statement, 04(6.66%) were uncertain about the statement, 05 (8.33%) disagreed with the statement, 14 (23.33%) strongly disagreed with the statement with a mean = 4.46 and standard deviation of 1.31 The findings also revealed that there is high level of Ignorance among rural farmers in Bay and Bakol region and thus agriculture is still greatly and relatively undermined and even over-looked as a mere back-yard business in Bay and Bakool 25 (42%) strongly agreed with the statement, 30(50%) agreed with the statement, 00(-) were not certain with the statement, 02 (3.33%) disagreed with the statement, 03(5%) strongly disagreed with the statement, with a mean = 44.40 and standard deviation of 0.491. The study concludes that there is a positive significant relationship between extension services and agricultural development because Extensionists access different information needed by farmers in terms of production, cultural practices, markets and marketing, Farmers and communities have little urge to conserve resources unless they are forced by legislation, One of the tasks of extension is the emphasis on developing the human capital, enhancing his or her capacity to make decisions, to learn and manage the communication process with others, to analyze the environment, to be a leader, to stand up to oppression and to organize. The study concludes that the different types and scale of extension services delivered to farmers include; Technical extension. Agricultural and rural extension is the responsibility of various technical and service units, and serves many purposes, Educational extension service provides, offers opportunities for learning through educational materials, publications, organizing of short courses, study trips, etc. The study concludes that the major challenges affecting extensive service and agricultural development in Bay and Bakol region are Lack of food storage or processing facilities; Many delicious and juicy fruits, vegetables, and cash-crops are largely produced from, Lack of road, water and electricity; the study recommends that farmer groups should be encouraged in order to help the extension staff make wider coverage andtake advantage of interper- sonal communication. It is important for the extension staff to understandthe purpose of the various extension methods and techniques, and the way in which these particularextension methods and technique is carried out, There is need to create appropriate information channels among the farmers.
