Autistic children have complex developmental obstacles that require measurable assessment techniques. However, teachers often find it challenging to conduct quantifiable assessments, primarily to monitor academic abilities because of the incompatibility of cognitive development of autistic children. This purpose of the study to describe the application of CBM to monitor the academic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic of autistic children and to describe and analyze the supporting factors and inhibiting factors of CBM implementation. This study uses a mixed method with the research subjects being autistic grade VIII junior high school girls. The findings indicate that CBM can be applied to children with autism. The CBM can be done on autistic children. The CBM for the development of learning plans has been carried out into four stages, namely screening, goal setting, diagnostic assessment, making hypotheses about interventions, and developing learning plans. The supporting factors for CBM implementation are the ease of using CBM, the assessment results make it easy to determine the next learning program, and use measurable measurement criteria, while the inhibiting factors are children's mood changes that are influenced by internal factors and external factors of autistic children.

Initial numeration is part of the math skills that every student must have. However, children with autistic disorder do not have good initial numeracy skills. This study aims to analyze the initial numeracy abilities of students with autistic disorders. This research is case study research. The subjects of this study were 2 students with autistic disorder class III, namely boys and girls. Data collection techniques used in this study used interviews, observation, and test sheets related to the initial numeracy skills of students with autistic disorders. Data analysis techniques are carried out through several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data display, and making conclusions. The results showed that D could recognize limited numbers in units 1-9 independently and could add and subtract limited units with assistance. N has not been able to recognize numbers and perform simple arithmetic. However, N can imitate writing unit numbers. The inability to master initial nu...

In Tanzania, several initiatives have been made in establishment of special and inclusive schools, mostly in urban areas. The government and community at large show commitments in addressing the needs of pupils with autism and intellectual impairment including the curriculum for learners with mental disabilities of 2008 in primary schools. The question that arises is whether pupils with autism and intellectual impairment in special and inclusive classrooms in Tanzania perform well academically. It is on this premise that this study was based. The study intended to assess academic performance of pupils with autism and intellectual impairment in special and inclusive classrooms in Tanzania. The study employed mixed methods research approach with a quasimixed design. Data were collected using pupil's assessment tool. Five inclusive primary schools were purposively chosen from two regions in Tanzania Mainland. Fifty pupils with autism and intellectual impairment participated in the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics were computed. The paired t-test was used to analyse the counting skills of the pupils, while the differences in their academic performance was established by the use of chi-square test. The findings revealed that pupils with intellectual impairment performed relatively higher in all selected tasks (number, communication and vocational skills) comparing to pupils with autism. As such, some deliberate efforts are required for enabling them to acquire competencies as outlined in the curriculum for primary school pupils in Tanzania.
THE ABILITY OF LANGUAGE SKILLS OF AN AUTISTIC STUDENT: A Case Study by 7 Year Autistic Student
LINGUISTIK TERAPAN
This research aims to describe the ability of active/expresive language and passive/ reseptive language of an autistic student and the effort to improve the language itself helped by the teacher and the shadow teacher in a non-govermental school in Medan. This research uses qualitative descriptive with study case of an autistic student in primary second grader , his initial is FR. Technique of data collection are observation, interview, and documentation. Technique of data analysis are data condensation, data display and verification and conclusion. The result of research showed that the ability of active/expressive language of FR still had difficulties in pronouncing, unclear articulation for certain letter such as r, n, ny, l, talk simple, unable to have interaction and communication properly, unable to convey the information, requesting what he needed use incomplete sentence when he got depresion, he needed help in writing. And the ability of passive/ receptive FR still have diff...
Observational Study on Teachers’ Approach in Teaching Children with Autism to Read
Journal of Education and Practice, 2012
Children with autism are characterized with unique cognitive and social emotional development which makes the process of teaching them to read to be difficult and complicated. In attending to the special needs and characteristics of children with autism, special education teachers should have necessary knowledge and techniques in teaching children with autism to read and taking their characteristics into consideration during the reading lesson. This research aims to examine th read. A total of two special education teachers were willing to participate in the case study. A non observation was carried out with the two respective teachers in different tim The findings were presented in different phases of the reading process which were carried out. There are no single theories which was used in teaching students to read in each phase. It involves the combination of vario to help students to understand the content of the reading material. Based on the findings, the teachers used several theories in teaching reading to children with autism. These theories include reading theories (traditional, cognitive and metacognitive view of reading) and Vygotsky's Sociocultural theory.
Learning Disabilities in Children with Autism
Learning Disabilities - Neurological Bases, Clinical Features and Strategies of Intervention, 2019
Children with autism spectrum disorders often present signs of cognitive strategies that are not within the expected developmental profile. Therefore, it should be expected that the learning process of children with this disorder should be the focus of several studies regarding schooling and literacy. Unfortunately, that is not the real situation. In this chapter, the authors propose to present an overview of the available literature about learning, reading, and literacy in children with the autism spectrum disorders and report results of studies about the association between executive functions and reading abilities in children with autism spectrum disorders that attend to regular and special schools in Brazil.
Application Reading Module for Children with Disabiliy among Students with Non-Verbal Autism
International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences
Autism is one of the categories of those who have a risk of reading problems. This study aims to find out the improvement of Malay language basic reading skills using Reading Module for Children with Disability for three students with non-verbal Autism using single-subject design. Subjects who received intervention at a learning centre for children with Autism The reading module is applied using a phonic and sight words method. The intervention was provided 25 sessions, every day. The teaching strategies in this module are errorless learning and scaffolding. There are three (3) practices provided for each sub-unit and flash cards in this module. In the early stage, all subjects are nonverbal and were not yet master the Malay language reading skills. These single-subject design cases illustrate that reading skill interventions may be effective for early intervention, no behavior problems and verbal Autism and warrant further testing.
Teaching early numeracy to students with autism using a school staff delivery model
British Journal of Special Education, 2021
Mathematics is one of the core school subjects in the UK and an emphasis is placed on developing pupils' mathematical competencies throughout all key stages. Despite that, the attainment of students with disabilities in mathematics remains low. The current study explored ways in which the Teaching Early Numeracy to children with Developmental Disabilities (TEN-DD) programme could be implemented by teaching staff in a special school in the UK to improve the numeracy skills of students with autism. Adaptations to the delivery of the programme were made during the study as a result of continued collaboration with the participating school. The findings suggest that it may be feasible to implement the TEN-DD programme using a school staff delivery model and it may help learners improve their early numeracy skills. Practical aspects of TEN-DD's implementation highlighted the need to incorporate more systematic adaptations for minimally verbal students, as well as for learners who might need additional training with prerequisite skills.

This concept paper describes a study which will be conducted to identify the level of communication among trainee teachers at the Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Pendidikan Teknik (IPGKPT) with autistic children. A simple random sample selection will be implemented and 52 trainee teachers will be selected. This study will also use a quantitative method by using a questionnaire instrument. This method is the easiest way to obtain data to determine the level of communication of trainee teachers IPGKPT with autistic children. Researchers will use descriptive statistical methods to analyze the data collected with the help of Social Science Statistics Package (SPSS) programming software where it can help researchers to produce accurate calculations. Accordingly, the data analysis that will be done will also involve calculations using medians, percentages, mean scores and standard deviations for the variables involved. In fact, the data will also be translated in the form of graphs, tables or charts so that it is easier to understand. This study is anticipated to inform about the level of communication the teacher trainees have with the autistic children.
Development of Academic Skills in Children with Autism
MJBAS, 2019
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the functioning of the brain and consequently other areas of development in an unstable and irregular way. There are many therapeutic approaches to autism and one of them is music therapy. Music therapy is a purely therapeutic treatment (Anagnostopoulou & Manti, 2009)[1]. It does not seek entertainment or music education. Music therapy is used as a means of expression and creativity, giving people with limited verbal communication capabilities such as autistic people an alternative way of communicating and expressing themselves. The purpose of this research is to investigate the development of social and communication skills through music therapy in children with ASD, focusing on emotional development, behavioral problems and academic performance. For the purposes of investigating the above purpose, the quality method and the data collection tools that helped to implement it were the semi-structured interview and the structured observation. In the interview were special therapists who implement music therapy approaches and observation was used to record a possible change in the unacceptable behaviors of a child attending a music therapy program. The results obtained from the qualitative analysis of the data demonstrate a significant weakness of the child with ADHD. both in terms of communication and sociability. Music therapy seems to be helpful in their academic skills. The results of the research show that music therapy plays an important role in early intervention to address the weaknesses faced by children with ASD.
