Use of the Hydraulic Model for the Operational Analysis of the Water Supply Network: A Case Study
Water, 2021
This paper presents an analysis of the operation of the water supply system. The analysed network provides water to six small towns. The water supply network covers rural areas of approximately 50 square kilometres with a total of 6130 inhabitants (2020). The area is characterised by relatively large differences in elevation. The water-pipe network supplies water mostly to family housing, public utility buildings, recreational buildings, service and craft entities, religious buildings, and commercial facilities and farms, including breeding farms. The network is supplied from one deep water well and a centrally located water supply tank. A hydraulic model was used for the analysis. The model was developed using the Epanet program, based on numerical and operational data. After validation, selected measurement points were used to calibrate the model. Furthermore, a series of simulations were performed to illustrate the network operation for variable water supply and demand conditions...

The main objective of this study is designing of Water Distribution Network (WDN) based on loops hydraulically. The existing water distribution network could not able to service the total area after the subsequent years due to population inflation and the increasing of water demand. Thus, new design of water distribution network suggested to insurance the population consumption and water demand of the present area after 25 years from base year of 2018. The data for the water pipe network such as the maps, diameters, material, utilities, land ordinates and the area supply method were obtained from Babylon Water Directorate.
Performance Evaluation of Water Distribution Network Using Hydraulic Parameter
2019
The water is a scarcer resource and needs to be supplied in sufficient quantity and pressure to the consumer. In this paper, hydraulic performance of water distribution network has been evaluated to understand its behavior in some critical situations such as leakage losses at node, increased roughness in pipe and varied diameter in pipe. Kosad, new north zone of Surat city has been taken asthe study area to analyse its performance. The network is simulated with EPANET software.Leakage losses were simulated at junctionsto analyse network performance under the condition of leakage.Hydraulic parameters are evaluated at various percentage of leakages along with varying diameter of pipe and varying value of pipe roughness. When 50% leakage losses are simulated in the study network, the analysis shows around 60% nodes are not satisfying minimum pressure criteria. The variations in pipe diameter and pipe roughness also have strong impact on node pressure. Results of this study will be helpful to observe the hydraulic performance and to take decision in improvement of performance of water distribution network.
Simulation of Existing Water Distribution Network by using EPANET: A Case Study of Surat City
Water is the basic need of all living being of world. Demand of water is increase day by day. Water supply system is a system of engineered hydraulic and components which provide water supply. For the development of nation, water distribution network are very important for development of an area as they serve many purposes in addition to provision of water for human consumption. The water distribution network plays a virtual role in preserving and providing desirable life quality to the public, of which reliability of supply is the major component. It is difficult to provide safe water to the rural people in sufficient quantity, quality and at satisfactory pressure head with achieving economy constraint. EPANET software is used to design and analyze the multi village supply system with reference to technical sustainability. EPANET is computer program that performs extended period simulation of hydraulic behavior within pressurized pipe network. The study presents the hydraulic analysis of pipe line network of Punagam area near Surat city using EPANET 2.0. The area has 600.83 Ha area and 2, 22,252 Population (2016). Source supplies water to city by 109 junction having 144 Pipes divided in two different zones. The water from this source is taken via network of pipes to the GSR (Ground Services Reservoir) across the area. The water from these GSR is then pumped to the Adjacent ESRs (Elevated Storage Reservoirs) during the supply hours and water is supply to the area by gravity. Simulation has been carried out for hydraulic parameter such as had pressure and flow rate. The result obtained verified that the pressure at all junction and the flows with their velocities at all pipes are feasible enough to provide adequate water to the network of study area. The findings will help to understand the pipelines system of the study area in a better way. The study also deals with the future demand of the area.

EPANET is a computer program that performs extended period simulation of hydraulic and water quality behavior within pressurized pipe networks. A network consists of pipes, nodes (pipe junctions), pumps, valves and storage tanks or reservoirs. EPANET tracks the flow of water in each pipe, the pressure at each node, the height of water in each tank, and the concentration of a chemical species throughout the network, EPANET is designed to be a research tool for improving our understanding of the movement and fate of drinking water constituents within distribution systems. It can be used for many different kinds of applications in distribution systems analysis. In this paper it was used to analyze the existing water distribution network in order to investigate its adequacy in performance of its function, the results obtained from this study revealed a lot of deficiencies in its design implementation and usage.
Hydraulic Modelling of the Water Supply System of Năsăud City, Bistriţa Năsăud County
IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2021
The paper presents a study of hydraulic modelling of the drinking water and sewage distribution network in Nasaud City, Bistrija Nasaud County from Romania, which includes a calibrated simulation of the flow through networks, and allows the elaboration of a future strategy of developing the networks of water and sewage. The need to develop hydraulic models as accurately as possible results from the fact that, by creating and calibrating the hydraulic model of a system, a variety of system problems can be identified, solutions can be mitigated to them by addressing the problem of rehabilitation, expansion or design of new systems. The results can be tracked both at the scale of time, and in real time by simulating the functioning of the system at these time scales. We decided to approach the problems of sizing and verifying the network using software solutions packages, in this case the MIKE URBAN calculation program, which can import and export network data as ESRI ArcView shape fil...

Disorderly use of water resources has led to depletion, causing environmental and social issues. A relevant aspect to be observed in water supply systems is physical losses which occur during the system's entire operational process. Many different software packages allow simulations of pressures and flow in water networks. The most used is EPANET. The epanet2toolkit is a recently developed R package that performs the interaction between EPANET and R. Based on this tool, a set of functions is developed to study and evaluate a theoretical network. The objective is to find an ideal network configuration (design) mainly for pressure management which simultaneously reduces physical losses. Water network parameters, such as roughness, reservoir levels, and diameters are used as parameters. A Monte Carlo simulation is generated, based on random values of these network parameters. From these, an ideal pressure scenario is found, resulting in a reduction of 11.6% in the occurrence of physical losses concerning the base case.
