This paper discusses the indicators of development possibilities for sea ports of national importance which are opened for public traffic: Rijeka, Ploče, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik, as well as for inland water ports: Vukovar, Osijek, Slavonski Brod and Sisak. Development of traffic and logistic integration processes have been proposed for Croatian sea and river ports, based upon development factors analyses. Croatian sea ports Rijeka, Ploče and inland water cargo ports Osijek, Vukovar, Slavonski Brod and Sisak have been analysed as delivery/forwarding points (nodes), taking into account the directions of goods flows, the participation in the traffic of goods, and all other relevant indicators. Optimal Analytical Instruments in the Function of Estimation of Total Traffic in the Port of Rijeka

The subject of the analysis in this paper is traffic in the Port of Rijeka, the largest and the most significant Croatian port for domestic and international public, predominantly cargo traffic, whose role, considering numerous plans for comprehensive modernisation and revitalisation of the Rijeka traffic route and hypercomplex traffic system, gains additional significance in terms of its impact on the general prosperity of the Rijeka area and the entire Croatia. The research in this paper is oriented on the analysis of the total realised traffic movement in the Port of Rijeka, according to all cargo structures in the period between 2000 and 2009, with special reference to the analysis of the container traffic trend until 2011, which has shown the highest growth potential in the North Adriatic area. Therefore, based on the analysis of the total traffic movement in the Port of Rijeka, and selected by mathematical and statistical smoothing time series models, scientifically based conclusions have been derived in the segment of selecting the optimal forecasting model of future traffic trend in the Port of Rijeka. This selection is considered relevant for making quality business decisions in the future.

Coastal line maritime passenger transport in the Republic of Croatia, as well as in other EU member states, is regulated through various regulations and legislation, which in turn result in numerous national laws and regulations that affect its development, all of which is legally binding for shippers. Scheduled maritime passenger transport is an extremely important form of transport for the Republic of Croatia since it is the only form of connection with the mainland for many islands. The maritime economy, as a range of diverse elements, encompasses all the industries and activities that utilize the sea as a natural resource, including shipbuilding, fisheries, exploitation of the sea and undersea, marine shipping, seaports, various maritime production and sales services. The specificity of the maritime economy is that it is characterized by a multiplicative effect on the development of land economy, which provides a guarantee for faster development of the rest of the economy, but also it is a justified reason for prioritizing maritime affairs. The empirical section in this paper analyses the indicators that provide an overview of the multiplier effect on the County of Zadar resulting from the expansion of maritime passenger traffic. The aim of this paper is to present the impact of maritime passenger traffic (cruise passengers, etc.) effect, as one of the segments of the maritime economy on the development of seaports and their surroundings (local units and county) and to define conceptual instruments and solutions for long-term development.

Indonesia regional feeder ports’ main function is to serve marine transport activities between regency/city in a province in limited quantities. The intention of the government to make marine transportation as the backbone of national logistic transportation system puts these ports to an important position, as suppliers for the main and/or collector ports and as goods distribution centers for the region from the bigger ports. Not only as a provider of accessibility between regions, regional feeder ports should be seen as an investation to boost regional economy. A dynamic view of the socioeconomic significance of ports

This paper presents a methodology for the provision of a dynamic view on the economic role of ports by means of input-output analysis. The focus is on assessing the role of ports as a source of market expansion for firms located in the hinterland, particularly for export-oriented firms. Structural change in the economy is accounted for by incorporating a bi-proportional matrix adjustment technique in the general input-output framework. By assessing yearly impact changes encompassing a number of years, the outcome of the proposed methodology can serve as a decision support tool for transport policy decision makers, namely by incorporating results in predictive models making use of econometric techniques. Additionally, it allows ex-ante evaluations of port-related investments. By relying on data regularly collected by regional or national statistical offices, the proposed methodology provides a generally applicable and transparent framework for assessing the economic role of ports in their respective hinterland, while also allowing for comparisons between ports and across time. An application of the proposed methodology is illustrated by evaluating the economic significance of exports moving through the Portuguese port system. Economic Activities Influence Models on the Traffic Flows in Bulgarian Seaports

The article presents analysis, assessment, and simple linear regression models of the basic economic activities impact on the volume of the cargo traffic processed in maritime ports of national importance in the Republic of Bulgaria. Dependencies between the industrial development trends and the turnover of the ports Varna and Burgas per main freight groups and directions (import, export and transit) are considered based on correlation and regression analysis. The trends of industry development are represented by industrial production indices by economic activities, classified according to the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE). Trends in cargo turnover changes in ports are represented by indices of the physical volume of processed goods in the ports of Varna and Burgas.An assessment of the strength and directions influence of industry on the maritime cargo turnover of the seaports is made by defining the coefficients of a simple (one-factor) linear correlation between the industrial output indices by economic activity and port turnover load indexes. Verification of the statistical significance of the results and the determination of the linear models applicable for the predicted purposes was made by the F-test.

The economic impact of the port sector is usually measured at an aggregate level by indicators such as value added, employment and investment. This paper tries to define the economic relevance for the regional as well as for the national economy at a disaggregate level. It attempts to identify, quantify and locate the mutual relationships between the various port players themselves and between them and other Belgian industries. Due to a lack of information foreign trade is only tackled very briefly but the method outlined in this paper can be used to measure the national effects of changes in port activity at a detailed level. A sector analysis is made by compiling a regional 1 input-output table, resorting to microeconomic data: a bottom-up approach. The main customers and suppliers of the port's key players or stakeholders are identified. A geographical analysis can also be carried out by using data at a disaggregate level. Each customer or supplier can be located by means of their postcode. In so doing, the economic impact of the port is quantified, both functionally and geographically. In the case of the port of Antwerp, the results show important links between freight forwarders and agents. The geographical analysis suggests the existence of major agglomerating effects in and around the port of Antwerp, referred to as a major transhipment location point.

Changes in world trade over approximately the last decade have included the significant expansion of container traffic flows into Europe. The largest ports of Europe are well known-Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, etc.-but there are also a large number of thriving medium and small sized ports, and not without impact are those of the northern Adriatic (NA), which we will analyse in this paper, examining the container flows and market characteristics, market shares in general and throughput in regard to these ports. Sažetak Svjetska trgovina se mijenja u zadnjem desetljeću, a tijekovi kontejnerskog prometa orjentirani su prema različitim dijelovima europskog kontinenta. Europski kontejnerski lučki sustav nije homogeni set luka. On se temelji na sedam velikih luka (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerpen...) i na mnogo srednjih i malih luka. U ovu kategoriju spadaju također i luke Sjevernog Jadrana (NA), a u ovom radu analizirali smo tijek prometa kontejnera i teret koji je prošao ovim lukama. U radu iznosimo stanje u lukama Sjevernog Jadrana koje se odnosi na kontejnere, dionice na tržištu, ali i značajke kontejnerskog tržišta.
