Tourism climate insurance: implications and prospects
Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, 2019
This paper investigates the intentions of tourists to purchase climate insurance as part of their holiday packages. A research model, based on Bagozzi’s reformulation of attitude theory designed to examine the relationships between climate expectation-disconfirmation and the behavioral intentions of tourists in purchasing tourism climate insurance, with destination loyalty as an outcome. The model hypothesizes and tests whether expectation-disconfirmation can be resolved by insuring the product-climate. A structural equation modeling is utilized. The results reveal that the expectation-disconfirmation of tourists in relation to climate is positively associated with their intentions to purchase insurance and negatively affects loyalty.
A model of tourism destination choice: a theoretical and empirical analysis
Tourism Management, 2002
In recent years tourism has become one of the fastest growing sectors of the world economy and is widely recognised for its contribution to regional and national economic development. The main aim of the paper is to propose a methodological framework within which the impact of characteristics of a tourism product on foreign travel can be captured and analysed. This is achieved by combining the Lancasterian product characteristics approach with the Koppelman's consumer transportation model. Within the proposed model the characteristics of the tourism product/destination including quality of service, advertising and political instability are combined to generate a perception/feeling regarding the tourism destination in the mind of the tourists. In order to measure these perceptions/feelings and, hence, develop a preference ordering, the model is estimated by utilising a conditional Logit analysis. The analysis is based on primary data collected from tourists visiting Cyprus. The conditional Logit model generates the probability of revisit given the characteristics of tourists and the Cyprus tourism product. The paper extends further the Lancaster product characteristics framework as applied to tourism by Rugg (Rev. Econom. Stat. 55(1) (1973) 64), Morley (Ann. Tourism Res. 19 (1992) 250) and Papatheodorou (Ann. Tourism Res. 28 (2001) 164) by including the neglected but from any viewpoint important political instability characteristic that is attached to the tourist product of Cyprus. The inclusion of product characteristics/attributes in tourism analysis appear to strongly contribute towards the better understanding of travel choice behaviour.
Symmetric and asymmetric analysis of tourist behavioral intention's antecedents
2022
This paper aims to test the effect of structural relations between memorable tourism experience, destination brand personality, destination place attachment and tourist satisfaction on tourist behavioral intention within a theoretical model. Two different methods were applied for research purposes. First, structural equation modeling was used to analyze linear effects and relationships. Afterwards, as part of asymmetric analysis, fsQCA was used to reveal sufficient and necessary configurations to predict tourist behavioral intention. The results indicate that tourists' future intentions can be predicted by both symmetric and asymmetric models. Linear analysis demonstrated that memorable tourism experience has positive effects on brand personality, attachment, satisfaction and consequently on intention of tourists. Thereafter, asymmetric analysis revealed that satisfaction was necessary for intention, whereas memorable tourism experience, attachment and brand personality were sufficient for intention. While fsQCA provides a supplementary perspective to the structural model, results indicate mediating relationships and configurational variations of research variables.
Tourist satisfaction and destination loyalty intention: a structural and categorical analysis
International …, 2006
This study explores the relationship between travel satisfaction and destination loyalty intention. The research was conducted with 486 tourists visiting Arade, a Portuguese tourist destination. Taking as the basis the use of structural equation modelling (SEM), the results substantiate the importance of tourism satisfaction as a determinant of destination loyalty. Also, a categorical principal components analysis (CATPCA) provides a detailed analysis of this cause-effect relationship by establishing that greater levels of satisfaction (measured by overall satisfaction in terms of holiday experience, destination attributes and met expectations) result in increased likelihood of future repeat visits and a keen willingness to recommend the destination to others. Clusters of tourists were also identified and characterized in relation to satisfaction levels and loyalty intentions. These analyses provide a useful background in the planning of future tourist marketing strategies.

Psychographics has been proposed as a valuable topic in the marketing literature. Also, it can be represented as latent variables which are related to the behaviors not only in the product or service discussions but also in the tourism activities. Besides, the tourism as the globally business can be understood in terms of the tourists' reflections in the different ways. Hence, the survey of original intentions of tourists is very precious subjects by regarding the causal relationship for exploring phenomena from their behavioral intentions. As psychographic constructs, which can impact in the different glances of the affect and cognitive systems, create new consumption patterns for purchasing and repurchasing tourism packages. Therefore, loyalty is significantly considered as a valuable construct for stakeholders and academic researchers. Consequently, the aim of this study is to find out loyalty from psychographic facet. To date, there is a bridge gap through the intervening psychographic constructs like lifestyle, personality, and travel satisfaction to achieve loyalty. Additionally, the current study suggested an integrated model through the contemplated constructs by employing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique to ascertain an appropriate model by Goodness-Of-Fit (GOF) indices.
ENLIGHTENING TOURISM. A PATHMAKING JOURNAL
The aim of this study was to assess the risk perception of domestic tourists visiting volatile destinations such as the Kashmir valley (India) and reveal the impact of various types of perceived risk on destination loyalty formulation. A quantitative research/deductive approach has been adopted for two reasons: (1) to ensure the objectivity, generalisability, and reliability of research findings; and (2) to develop hypotheses based on an existing theory and then collect data to determine whether empirical evidence to support those hypotheses exists. The current study used a convenience sampling method for collecting data from 413 domestic tourists using a self-administered questionnaire. Furthermore, the two-step approach for structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to assess the psychometric properties of the measurement model and test the proposed structural model. The results revealed that all the five types of perceived risks (socio-psychological, political, performance, fin...
Modelling tourism expenditure using complexity theory
This study contributes to the literature by offering a novel analytical approach to solving complex interactions of tourism expenditure antecedents, advancing the theoretical reasoning behind the way in which socioeconomic indicators of prosperity combine to explain tourism expenditure on an international scale. The study explored a variety of configurations sufficient for simulation of both high and low scores of outbound tourism expenditures that have policy implications in both destination countries and countries of origin. We used complexity theory and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze a composite score of 5-year data for 105 countries. The predictive validity results indicated the capacity of the proposed model to predict future outcome using other samples. The results expand our knowledge of the asymmetrical relationships of tourism expenditure and its antecedents.
