An Analytical Study of job Stress among selected Police personnel in the State Of Gujarat with special reference to vadodara city

This paper tries to examine the level of stress among police personal and their coping strategies in the state of Gujarat. Various symptoms of stress includes, family problem either it’s a matter of divorce, Mental Health problem & Committing suicides or organizational which mainly focuses on workload, Target achievement, Attitude and Behavior among internal staff and societal among police. This study also highlights some points about what to do and what not to do when specially police officers’ feels a strong stress on him.

Management of Stress and Coping Behaviour of Police Personnel through Indian Psychological Techniques

The police fulfils an essential role in the society and stress potentially reduces the effectiveness of the personnel. The stressed police officers pose a threat to themselves, their colleagues, offenders and/or to public safety and thus it is a matter of urgent concern for psychologists in particular and mental health researchers in general. There are endeavors to reduce, eliminate or modify stress among police personnel using psychological techniques based on the western model. The present study is unique as it uses stress management and stress coping techniques based on Indian psychological models. The multidimensional psychological interventions used in this study were chosen on the basis of indigenous psychological viewpoints embedded in Yoga and meditational techniques. The volunteers chosen from different ranks of police personnel (e.g. constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspectors and inspectors) to reduce their stress using a control group technique. In order to assess the efficacy of these multidimensional psychological interventions, scores on stress and coping were taken prior to and after the intervention (pretest and posttest design). Repeated measures analysis of variance was applied to compare the experimental and control groups. It was found that the multidimensional psychological interventions were significant in reducing job stress, and they enhanced the coping behavior of subjects. The study highlights the role of stress management techniques developed from Indian psychology theory.

A Study on perceived stress and Quality of Life among central police force living with and without family Karishma Rajpoot

Defense personnel " s (Police, Military etc) are of most honors in our country they not only fight for the country but fight to save lives of thousands and millions. Health of these personnel " s is extremely important the level of stress they face might hamper their work and state of being. This study aimed to explore perceived stress and Quality of Life among police personnel living with and without family. The study aimed to find supporting factor as a essential indicator of one " s well-being. Thus, the study aimed to compare the group of police personnel " s staying with family and without family. Total sample of 60 individuals were taken (30 staying with family and 30 staying alone/away from family) age ranging 28-35married males from I.T.B.P. Force from SSBN, Haryana. Stressful life event and WHOQOL-BREF were assessed on the participants. The findings of the study showed that there was statistical difference between both the groups on perceived stress and all domains of quality of life. The findings stated that participants staying with family had low level of stress and better quality of life. Thus, socio emotional support acts as an aid in lowering the level of stress in defense personnel " s. The idea of stress has been applied in both psychological and physiological settings. Stress is not a new term it has been studied in disciplines of psychology and other medical fields. However the factors contributing to stress or act as stressors are still added to researches. Stress is applied to various psychological (mental) and physiological (bodily) stresses, anxiety, worry experienced or felt by person during their lives. Stress refers to the state of anxiety, worry and mental tension affected by problem in our life, work, daily life etc.

Policing is believed to be a nerve-wracking job. Stress is inevitably associated with uniformed services. Police personnel face multiple mental conflicts and internal turmoil, in their service period. The study is located in Kolkata. The aim of the study is to understand the police perception of stress, the different levels of stress arising from multiple sources-organizational and operational, within the police station and the department in its entirety. The study uses a mixed method approach to combine quantitative and qualitative data to get an extensive picture and understand the gravity of the situation. The unresolved frustrations and personal conflicts result in stress and in order to deal with it they develop their own coping mechanisms. The current study analyses this with the demographics and also looks into how a personnel is affected and the multiple ways of navigating through it.

A Study of Occupational Stress and Job Satisfaction of Police Personnel of Gujarat State

The present research was conducted in order to understand the occupational stress faced by the police personnel of Gujarat state and their levels of Job satisfaction with their lives. A total sample of 120 (60 males and 60 females) were taken for the study. Out of the 120 sample, 60 were armed and 60 were Unarmed Police Offices. Occupational Stress scale developed by A.K Shrivastava and A. P. Singh and Job Satisfaction scale developed by Singh and Sharma were used to gather data. The analysis of data was completed using t-test. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant difference in Occupational stress of Armed and Unarmed Police officers and similarly there is no significant difference in Occupational stress of Male and Female Police officers of both the groups. Occupational stress among police persons in Jammu and Kashmir

This research paper is an attempt to study the level of occupational stress among Jammu and Kashmir police persons. This study is based on sample of 100 subjects 50 male (25 married and 25 unmarried) and 50 subjects female (25 married and 25 unmarried). The Occupational stress were measured by Occupational stress index (OSI) constructed by Dr. A. K. Srivastava and Dr. A. P. Singh department of Psychology Banaras Hindu University Varanasi. In the present study two independent variables were studied i.e. marital status and gender. Mean, S.D and t-test were applied for data analysis. The results reveal that the t-value of male and female subjects were not found significant at any level of confidence but the t-value of married and unmarried subjects were found significant at 0.05 level of confidence therefore marital status is an influencing factor of occupational stress. This study shows that no significant difference was found between the levels of occupational stress among male and female police persons. Psychometric Properties of the Bangla Version Operational Police Stress Questionnaire

The Operational Police Stress Questionnaire (PSQ-Op) was developed by McCreary & Thompson. This study aimed to translate the instrument into Bangla and validate it according to Bangladeshi Culture. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) of the data from 160 participants (who provided complete responses) identifi ed four factor structures for PSQ-Op with 19 items. The four factors for PSQ-Op namely ‘Excessive workload and risk’, ‘Social affairs and image’, ‘Feelings of all time work and social blame’ and ‘Physical and interpersonal problems’ together explained 56.94% of the total variance. This study was novel in the sense that previous study has not identifi ed any factor structure for this instrument. The PSQ-Op showed good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α =.89 for PSQ-Op; .71 - .85 for its factors), strong translation and convergent validity. Thus, the Bangla version PSQ-Op appears to be a valid and reliable instrument for using it for research purpose in the country. The researcher observed police in several are doing their duty within the limitations of the legal frame in public all though they are being looked upon by the public in wrong perception so for stress among police officers is not being recognized as the major drawback of law enforcement professionals which is a bane for police professionals. One of the vital issues before the institution today is occupational stress of police officers. Stress, Depression, Coping Strategy and Respiratory Health Status of Traffic Police at Anand District, Gujarat, India
