AF UPRAKTISKE GRUNDE: Om samlinger blandt danske musikfans
Tidsskriftet Antropologi
The article is a study of music fans and primarily concerns the objects collected by these people. Two main arguments run through the analysis. First of all, the collections are considered as results of a human eagerness to categorize and systematize, and, as such, one can see this accountn as an exemplification of Claude Lévi-Strauss’ thought in a modern Western setting: Things are not known because they are relevant – they become relevant because they are known; as soon as a possible acquisition is discovered by a fan, comes the urge to obtain it. Such conclusions, more-over, are much in line with Baudrillard’s writings on collections, in which system-atisation and striving for completing a known series are the basic motives for collecting. There are things, however, which are difficult to explain by reference to the urge for completeness, for example, those things which have previously been used, or merely touched, by a particular singer. The second and prominent part of the arti...
Unddragelsens kunst. Hermetiske objekter og deiksis uden kontekst i Gertrude Steins “Tender Buttons”
Passage - Tidsskrift for litteratur og kritik, 2017
Maja Bak Herrie: “The Art of Withdrawal – Hermetic Objects and Deixis without Context in Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons”The last decade has seen an increased attention toward things and objects in the aesthetic disciplines. This article explores the analytical potentials of the quadruple object model from Graham Harman’s object-oriented philosophy in a literary context, namely Gertrude Stein’s 1914 book Tender Buttons: objects, food, rooms. With the assistance of the quadruple object model and the linguistic term deixis, paradoxically concrete but non-contextualised, literary objects in the form of everyday items and foods are conceptualised as being in a process of withdrawal and emergence.

Looking to Swedish director Ruben Östlund’s 2017 movie The Square, this article describes the ways in which Scandinavian privilege sensibility makes itself known as a tense reflection on, or struggle over, the value of moral sentiments such as sympathy, compassion, solicitude, and pity. In contemporary Scandinavian culture, it has become an affective habit, I suggest, to be suspicious of the moral sentiments, which will therefore typically be regarded and experienced as morally embarrassing states of feeling. Thus, the moral sentiments are always in risk of becoming signs of something immoral in the feeling subject, whether an individual or a collective subject. Privilege sensibility indicates to us something important about the ways in which we respond to inequality and to our own position in unequal social fields of relation, and central to this sensibility is, I argue, a structure of feeling according to which noble emotions may turn ugly, while conventionally ugly feelings may, ...
Noget at tale om! Museet som katalysator for ensomhedsforebyggelse hos ældre
Nordisk Museologi
In recent years, there has been an increase in cooperative projectsbetween the cultural and the healthcare sector. International research shows thatthere is a good reason for that. From a holistic approach to the body and mind,it appears that the arts in various aspects can have significant impact on mentalhealth, and that it can improve the individual’s quality of life. This text describesa collaborative project between The Frederiksberg Museums and FrederiksbergHealth Centre. The purpose of this project is the prevention of loneliness in seniorcitizens. The survey questions are based on the potential significance of the museumcollection as a catalyst for conversation and thus relationship formation. Inaddition, we have wished to examine the degree to which a museum’s interventioncan strengthen the social networks of the participants.
