Association of ABO and Rh Blood Groups with Breast Cancer
Objectives The aim of this study was to determine the association of “ABO” and “Rhesus” blood groups with incidence of breast cancer. Methods In this study, we identified 70 research documents from data based search engines including “PubMed”, “ISI-Web of Knowledge”, “Embase” and “Google Scholar”. The research papers were selected by using the primary key-terms including “ABO blood type”, “Rhesus” blood type and “breast cancer”. The research documents in which “ABO” and “Rhesus” blood types and breast cancer was debated were included. After screening, we reviewed 32 papers and finally we selected 25 research papers which met the inclusion criteria and remaining documents were excluded. Results Blood group “A” has high incidence of breast cancer (45.88%), blood group “O” has (31.69%); “B” (16.16%) and blood group “AB” has (6.27%) incidence of breast cancer. Blood group “A” has highest and blood group “AB” has least association with breast cancer. Furthermore, “Rhesus +ve” blood group has high incidence of breast cancer (88.31%) and “Rhesus -ve” blood group has least association with breast cancer (11.68%). Conclusion Blood group “A” and “Rhesus +ve” have high risk of breast cancer, while blood type “AB” and “Rhesus -ve” are at low peril of breast cancer. Physicians should carefully monitor the females with blood group “A” and “Rh+ve” as these females are more prone to develop breast cancer. To reduce breast cancer incidence and its burden, preventive and screening programs for breast cancer especially in young women are highly recommended.

Background: ABO blood group has been associated with risk of several malignancies. However, results are not consistent and are contradictory. The goal of this retrospective analysis study was conducted for analysis to access ABO blood groups potential role of in GIT carcinoma. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in the Department of Physiology in collaboration with the Department of Radiotherapy at Mathura Das Mathur Hospital of Dr. S. N. Introduction: The association between ABO blood group and cancer has been identified in many epidemiological researches. The aim of the current research was to investigate the association between ABO blood group and the risk of several types of cancer in a Greek adult population. Materials and Methods: A total of 459 individuals who suffered from various types of cancer and 918 non-cancer individuals were enrolled. Blood group data obtained from registration on identity patient’s card. The associations between ABO blood group and cancer estimated using a multivariate logistic regression analysis model, whereas a multinomial model was carried out to estimate adjusted odds ratios for each type of cancer separately. Association of ABO Blood Group in Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among urban Indian females and second commonest in rural India, and the incidence is continuously increasing [1]. It is worthwhile to mention that breast carcinoma is one of the common malignancies among women in India. Since the first report by Aird et al. [2], showing an association between blood group A and gastric cancer, numerous other reports have documented a high incidence of blood group A in various cancers including salivary gland, colon, uterus, ovary, pancreas, kidney, urinary bladder, cervix and gall bladder [3, 4]. However, evidences suggest ABO blood groups to have importance in tumor genesis, since the blood group antigens seem to have a significant biological role in the immunological system via which they may promote development of some tumors, including carcinoma of the breast [5]. In this paper the distribution of ABO blood groups among patients have been studied with breast carcinoma, comparing it with blood group distribution in patients with benign breast diseases and healthy controls.
Incidence of Breast Cancer in a Primary Hospital in Relation to ABO Blood Groups System

The aim of this study was to investigate the association of ABO blood group system with breast cancer in a primary hospital in Penang. Moreover the study was conducted to assess the utility of ABO blood group as a preclinical marker. The study sample consisted of 70 and 140 cancer and controlled subjects respectively. Factors such as blood group, age, ethnic group were examined in 70 female subjects of breast cancer. Blood samples were taken from 140 healthy subjects to examin the distribution of ABO blood group types with different Malaysian races. Incidence in cancer patients is high with blood group A and AB compared with control group; however the association was not statistically significant. For blood group B and O were lower in cancer patients compared to control healthy group and the association was statistically significant. The results also indicated that blood type should be considered along with other risk factors to understand the patient's risk. Conclusion: Blood group A is highly associated with breast cancer (30.0%), in contrast to the other blood groups.

Research Question: Incidence of ABO blood group in different cancers in Northern IndiaObjectives: To find out the incidence of ABO blood group in different cancers in Western Uttar Pradesh, so as to assess the utility of ABO blood group as a preclinical marker. Design: The study was conducted on 2640 histologically proven cancer patients attending the Blood Bank, Department of Pathology, JN Medical College, AMU, Aligarh during the period 2000-2007 for requisition of blood transfusion. ABO blood grouping was performed by the tube method in all the cancer patients. The age, sex, ABO blood type and pathological status of all the patients were collected. BackgroundGynecological cancer is the fourth most common malignancy in women that affects female reproductive organs, including ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina, and vulva. Breast cancer is also a malignant disease worldwide. Every year, over one million people were newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Apart from transfusion practice, blood group has established specific mode of inheritance and population-specific variation. The association between ABO blood group and several malignancies have been reported, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer. However, inconsistent results were obtained in various works on ABO blood group association with several malignancies and also inadequate research work on prognostic impact of ABO blood group among several cancers leads to uncertainty for cancer survival. In this background, the objective of present study is to understand the association between ABO blood group and the survival of different gynecological cancer patients of Bengali Hindu caste group.Materials and MethodsThe present study consists of 148 clinically diagnosed female cancer patients (breast, uterus, and cervical). Data were collected on blood group, age at marriage, age at menarche, age at menopause, parity, and age at first pregnancy.ResultExamination on survival and cancer revealed that the patients with A blood group have comparatively more survival time than other blood groups.
Retrospective Analytical Study of Association Between Abo Blood Group and Malignancy

BACKGROUND The findings of Arid et al in 1953 regarding association between carcinoma of stomach and B blood group and successively in 1954 regarding association between peptic ulcer and O blood group opened a new approach to find association of blood group with other commonly occurring diseases. Blood type antigen system maybe apparently involved in the pathophysiology of wide range of human malignancy by interaction between glycan structures on red blood cells surface and different agents. Therefore, the present study aims to find out to examine the association between ABO blood group and different forms of malignancy, so that a preventive measure can be applied to the risk blood group population. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty (30) diagnosed malignant cases as study group and thirty (30) non-malignant cases as control group were selected amongst the surgical patients and ABO blood group were collected and registered. The ABO blood group and Rh factor of both the groups were determined using the tile or slide testing method and the frequency of occurrence of ABO and Rh blood group among malignant and non-malignant population was assessed. The frequency distribution of ABO blood group and Rh factor among the entire malignant population was compared with that of general non-malignant population by Chi-square test. RESULTS The present study indicates that the blood group (B) appears to have higher risk of developing malignancy compared to people of other blood groups, but it is insignificant as per Chi-square test. CONCLUSION The present study suggests that ABO blood group was found to be of non-potential risk factor in the development of malignancy.
