The Effect of Employing Electronic Static Infographic Technology on Developing University Students’ Comprehension of Instructional Design Concepts and ICT Literacy

2021

The current study examined the effectiveness of the use of electronic static infographic (information graphic) technology to support university students’ learning, to develop their comprehension of instructional design concepts and to improve their Information and Communication Technology (ICT) literacy. The researcher used an experimental design in which 64 students in an instructional design course in the second semester of the 2019-2020 were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The students in the experimental group received treatment on instructional design concepts and ICT literacy with the aid of electronic static infographic technology while the students in the control group received instruction about the same topic using regular method of instruction without the aid of electronic static infographic technology. Pretest and post-tests were administrated for the students in the two groups. Analysis of the pretest and post-test scores revealed that the implementation of electronic static infographic to support students’ learning contributed considerably in developing comprehension of instructional design concepts. There was significant difference at the level (0.05) between the post-test scores of the control and experimental groups with the benefit going to the experimental group. Based on the findings, the current study recommends the use of electronic static infographic technology to support students’ learning in teaching instructional design courses.

An Investigation toward Advantages, Design Principles and Steps of Infographics in Education

Nowadays, quick development in technology have a remarkable efficiency in learners' educational life. The modern technologies that utulized in instruction are developing in order to deliver valuable information rapidly, regardless of time and place, modern media illustration format transpired. Infographic is the example of this format. Infographics can be defined as providing information in a certain stream with the aid of a story and various visuals such as writing, painting, drawing, graphics, sound and video rather than trying to explain an event, information, data or content contextually. Hence, education through infographics not only assists learners to explain information visually but also provide learners with an extensive and broader form of learning and comprehension in instruction. Furthermore, todays instructors need to provide and design a learning environment that enhances the students' experience, as well as their capability of choosing, developing and integrating visual materials in their instructions. Therefore, virtual literacy and infographics skills play a very significant role in the digital-age instructors' toolbox. The aim of this study is to explain advantages, design principles and steps of design infographics according to new trends in education. The paper would be useful for anyone interested in designing, preparing and implementing infographics in education.

APPROACHES OF DESIGNERS IN THE DEVELOPED EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES OF INFOGRAPHICS' DESIGN PROCESSES

Infographics enable users to receive information by using various visuals such as texts, pictures, drawings, diagrams, graphs and so on in an organized structure. The use of infographics, which can be designed in different platforms from visual design programs to web environment developed specifically for the creation of infographics, in the learning environments becomes more widespread. The number of studies investigated design processes and view of designers in regard with infographics that are commonly used in the learning environments is very limited. In this study, views and approaches of designers in regard with infographics design process for educational purposes are presented. A total of 64 participants including 35 female and 29 male participated in the study. The results of the study show that female and male have similar understanding in terms of copyright, publicity, references, design preferences, production environments and production processes. On the other hand, designers have different approaches and preferences in terms of design concept, design process, readability level, sharing and contribution to the personal development, visual components, colors, information sources, themes and quality perception.

Saudi Learners' Perception of Infographics in Education: A Survey

JOIV : International Journal on Informatics Visualization

Learners' learning experiences diverge and undergo rapid shifts due to trends in technology, and the transfer of knowledge in varying formats and styles is ubiquitous. Infographics find its application in instructional design and technology that drives education with state-of-the-art tools and applied methods. Being a format of data, Infographics or visual images presents information or knowledge using visuals. This study aims to present the student perceptions of learning via infographics at Princess Nourah bint Abdurrahman University (PNU) in Saudi Arabia. The study employs a survey questionnaire consisting of 13 close-ended questions posed to assess the learners' responses at PNU. Applied Likert's scale-based questions present a conversion of user data input to quantitative figures, which present the level of understanding and the role of infographics in education. The survey involved 45 undergraduate female students pursuing undergraduate degree courses at PNU. Using...

Infographics: Teaching and Learning Tool

ATTARBAWIY: Malaysian Online Journal of Education

This study examined the use of infographics as a tool for facilitating learning among Graphic Design and Digital Media learners at UiTM Melaka. The study involved ninety-nine learners with similar demographic background who were selected using simple random sampling method. The data collection is based on methodology using quantitative and descriptive statistics. These were derived from a set of questionnaire which is the main instrument. This instrument has undergone content validity as well as the reliability testing. A pilot study was conducted with the results of 0.884 of Cronbach‘s Alpha. The findings suggested that the main learning problems encountered by learners was to execute instructors‘ assignment without proper guidelines while others found that the use of too many slides in presentation and too wordy information presented by instructors were a hindrance to their classroom learning. Besides, the study also discovered that all infographics‘ features including the use of ...

Experimental testing the effect of teaching method with multimedia

IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2020

The technical drawing is a step that is absolutely necessary to be mastered by the architects in presenting their product in the design development phase. The easy readiness and completeness of information in a drawing determine the quality and timeliness of a project. An incomplete engineering drawing is difficult to read by foreman or craftsman. Building Technology’s subject studies the structure and construction of buildings. As a supporting subject, it plays an important role in the creation of design works of the students. Successful mastery of this subject greatly impacts on courage and design exploration of students in Architecture design courses. This study arranged to measure how far the material online can be understood and comparing the teaching’s result between the normal method (conventional method) with the multimedia method. As the object of research are students of Building Technology classes LA44, LB44, and LD44 at Bina Nusantara University Jakarta. The method used ...

The Effect of the Type Visualizing—on the Presentation Strategy of the Computer-Based Multimedia Learning—and the Learning Style toward the Student's Ability in Applying Concept and Procedure of

2013

This research aims to investigate the effect of the type visualizing—on the presentation strategy of the computer-based multimedia learning—and the learning style toward the student’s ability in applying concept and procedure of object-oriented modelling. The type visualizing on the presentation strategy as an independent variabel includes 2 treatments, static visualization and animation visualization. The student’s learning style (visual and verbal) act as a moderator variabel. The instructional strategy on the multimedia learning follows Merrill (Component Display Theory) and the multimedia presentation format follows Mayer and Moreno (Seven Principles of Multimedia Learning). Learning with computer-based multimedia was conducted in the class with the research subject was the students of STMIK-STIKOM Bali who were in their fourth semester in the year 2011/2012. The experiment design used MANOVA factorial 2x2 design with the samples of 164 students spreaded in 6 different classes. ...
