Burnout among medical students of the University of Kerbala and its correlates

Background Burnout is prevalent among medical students. Throughout their training, medical students face many psychosocial stresses that, if not managed, might cause burnout syndrome. Burnout could negatively impact students’ life and their academic performance. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of burnout among medical students at the College of Medicine, University of Kerbala, and assess factors associated with it. An analytic cross-sectional study. A sample of 424 students from all academic years from the College of Medicine, University of Kerbala, was approached. Data collection was conducted from June 11 to July 3, 2020, through a self-administered online questionnaire based on the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey (MBI-SS). Burnout Among Students of Technical Faculties in Serbia – A Case Study

Even though university students are not employees of the faculties, their academic duties (attending classes, taking exams, writing term papers and essays, and so on) can be considered as forms of work, whereby they engage socially with their teachers and other students, which is why student burnout has come into increased focus of numerous studies. The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between gender, tuition fee status, and year of study and burnout among the students of basic academic studies at one of the public faculties in southern Serbia (N=194) using the School Burnout Inventory (SBI-U 9). The obtained results indicate that moderate exhaustion, cynicism, and the feeling of inadequacy are related to moderate burnout of the majority of the students. It has been determined that gender influences one burnout dimension-exhaustion, while the students' tuition fee status is related to cynicism and inadequacy, as is their year of study. This study also found that high degree of burnout increases with the years of study.

Burnout is a popular term and it's easy to apply to just having stress, but burnout is actually something a lot more serious than people just being stressed from school. It is not simply a heavy workload that makes people feel burned out. Maslach explained that some people can work hours on end and be perfectly happy because they enjoy their job. Actual burnout is a combination of exhaustion, depression and negative feelings about oneself. It has been shown that burnout is experienced by students as well as in all types of professions and occupational groups. Burnout among students refers to feeling exhausted because of students demand, having a cynical and detached attitude toward one's study, and feeling in competent as a student. The objective of the current study is to investigate the burnout level among Faculty of Education Students at Celal Bayar University. Students' burnout level was assessed with a modified version of Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for students.

Prevalence and pattern of burnout syndrome and associated quality of life amongst undergraduates of a tertiary institution in Northern Nigeria

Background: Previous studies show that academic burnout among undergraduates in Nigeria is prevalent and impacts negatively on their mental well-being and quality of life. Few studies have looked at the relationship between burnout, psychological morbidity and quality of life. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome among undergraduates and its relationship with psychological morbidity and quality of life. Methods: A total of 933 undergraduates from the faculties of education, law and medicine, Bayero University Kano, participated in this descriptive, cross sectional study. Study instruments included a sociodemographic questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory-students' survey, 12-item version of the General Health Questionnaire, and WHO Quality of Life Survey-Abbreviated Version. Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 16 was used to analyse the data using Chi square and ANOVA and a p-value of 0.05 or less was considered statistically signicant. Results: This showed a burnout prevalence of 153(16.4%) for emotional exhaustion, 230(24.7%) for cynicism and 194(20.8%) for reduced academic efcacy. Burnout increased with increasing length of academic activity, increasing psychological morbidity and decreasing Quality of Life. Education students had more burnout on cynicism subscale while medical students had more burnout on academic efcacy subscale. Overall, law students were the least burnout. Conclusion: Burnout is common among undergraduates of Bayero University Kano. Families (through participatory parenting) and university authorities should put in place functional programmes to reduce the burden of burnout and more researches are needed to gain deeper understanding of burnout and its effects on students' mental health.

Correlation Beetween Academic and Non-Academic Factors with Burnout Syndrome Incindence in Medical Study Program Faculty of Medicine Airlangga University

Background: Burnout is a symptom of emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and fatigue that occurs in an individual who does work by providing a form of service to others or the like. Burnout has the possibility of happening to students even though professionally students are not considered to be working or not having a job. Objective: This study aims to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome based on the year of lecture and to determine academic and non-academic factors that influence the occurrence of burnout syndrome in medical students. Method: This study is a cross-sectional with respondents from the Medical Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University in the 2019-2021 class. The sampling technique was carried out by consecutive sampling. Data collection using a questionnaire. Instrument used is a burnout scale questionnaire made by Freudenberger and Richelson which has been translated into Indonesian Results: The results showed that 136 medical students had filled out the distributed questionnaires. The total number of students affected by burnout is 71 people with a percentage of 52.2%. In this study, the academic and non-academic factors that were found to have a significant effect on the occurrence of burnout in students were the average lecture time (p-value = 0.011), study fatigue (p-value = 0.038), and free time (p-value = 0.037) through logistic regression. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the incidence of burnout with the variable duration of daily lectures, study fatigue, and free time.

This study aims to find out how big burnout cases are in independent medical practice. It was taken from burnout cases that occurred in independent medical practices, from January 2018 to December 2021. Objective: to identify the factors associated with Burnout Syndrome among Nursing undergraduates, correlating to sociodemographic factors. Method: an exploratory descriptive study of a quantitative approach regarding the stress factors of the Burnout Syndrome, comprising 41 students, applied a semi-structured questionnaire composed of sociodemographic data and questions involving the identification of stressors related to the onset of such syndrome based on MBI adapted by MBI-SS. Results: according to sociodemographic variables, there is only correlation between Burnout with age and with marital status. Prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in Teachers from Seven Health Courses at the Unirg Foundation and University Center in the Municipality of Gurupi-TO

This study establishes the incidence of burnout in teachers and the University Center of the foundation of the city of UNIRG Gurupi-TO, using the MBI (Malasch Burnout Inventory). Burnout is a persistent condition and negative work-related, exposed by normal individuals, distinguished by exhaustion, reduced sense of efficacy, reduced motivation and dysfunctional attitudes and behaviors at work. An investigation was conducted with 101 teachers UNIRG the municipality of Gurupi-TO. The data indicated no major incidence of burnout in the sample. The 3 dimensions established by MBI for the syndrome was characterized by 9.9% in the dimension of emotional exhaustion (EE), 21.78 % in the dimension depersonalization (DE) and 100 % professional achievement in the dimension (RP). Even so, it would be important to create programs that prevent burnout syndrome, to prevent education professionals to get sick. It is also necessary to continue this type of research and to create more complex patterns for the outline of burnout in this specific context.
