Pro-Ecological Attitudes Among Students
Economic Sciences for Agribusiness and Rural Economy
The aim of the study is to present the pro-ecological (i.e. favourable for ecology, acting in favour of environment) attitudes of people who study at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences-SGGW. The theoretical part discusses the concept and the essence of ecology and ecological awareness, as well as the elements and significance of ecological education. In the practical part, the attitude of the group of students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the WULS-SGGW to the necessity of pro-ecological behaviours and their expectations regarding the ways of propagating knowledge and activities in the field of environmental education is presented. It turned out that more than 90% of the respondents consider such behaviours as a necessary one, while around 60% believe that the entities responsible for promoting it among the society-in the form of obligatory education-should be schools and universities. Finally, the study contains original conclusions and findings regarding the observations made during the research.

For the purposes of this study it can be adopted that education represents the system of learning, acquiring knowledge, skills and attitudes. Education can be divided into a formal and a non-formal one. Formal education stands for the process conducted in educational institutions, such as kindergartens, schools, universities and carried out in the form of professional trainings, based on the developed core curriculum. Non-formal education is a lifelong learning process, as it commences at birth, with its first sources being the family and the immediate milieu. Non-formal education can be provided by institutions, organizations, foundations, NGOs and governmental associations through campaigns and social actions. At this point it is important to observe that today the media, including the Internet in particular, remain a very strong and dominant source of non-formal education.

At present, all components of the environment are burdened by human activities. These human activities have caused many environmental problems, and without appropriate measures, they will have other far-reaching consequences in the future, which may be irreversible. One of the basic measures for the sustainable future of the environment and human society is to build the environmental awareness of the population. In addition to other entities, universities and their students and graduates have an important role in this process. The study focuses on the evaluation and comparison of environmental awareness and its factors among students of the University of Presov in Presov, Slovakia. Based on the results of this research, social networks and the internet are used as the main source of environmental information and should be used as a means of raising environmental awareness among students. The students of the University of Presov achieved high environmental awareness within the cognit...

The importance of education for sustainable development and environmental sustainability (ESD) was acknowledged decades ago. Many studies investigated students' environmental awareness, but the majority are simple descriptive ones. Only few studies try to investigate efficiency of ESD in schools and the causal background that shapes students' environmental awareness. By means of questionnaires, environmental awareness of 845 students and their socio - economical background was measured in 13 Hungarian seconda ry schools. A pragmatic analysis was performed in order to explore which are the main factors, either student's background or school's background related factors, responsible for the huge variation observed in the environmental awareness of students. Diffe rent aspects of environmental awareness were investigated, such as self - declared behaviours (consumer habits, healthy food habits, thrifty habits, waste management) and environmental attitudes. In a prelimin...

The article presents the practical foundations of environmental education in selected agricultural universities in Poland and Ukraine. Education for sustainable development ought, inter alia, to shape and strengthen the ability to make judgments and decisions in favor of safer, healthier and more prosperous world, and should develop critical thinking and develop ecological awareness. In this context the aspect of environmental awareness and the related choice of means of transport can be discussed. This article presents the results of research regarding the choice of means of communication by students. The study was carried out by a questionnaire among students in Krakow. The results of the research are presented in context of available communication possibilities in Krakow, which are also characterized. Studies have shown that the level of environmental awareness of students is still not satisfactory. Behind their declared concern for the environment do not follow the attitudes and behavior supporting this concern. The most important is their own comfort, even more important than their own health and condition. The care for the environment recedes into the background.

Today, the more and more intensive use of natural resources and consequent environmental degradation have made the issue of sustainable development a central place in many discussions going on in scientific circles. In this light, ecological awareness, as well as pro-ecological attitudes and behaviors of people seem to be only too significant. The aim of this article is to present the results of research conducted among the inhabitants of the Municipality of Zawadzkie, Opole Voivodeship. The study examined the relation between the level of environmental awareness and manifestations of environmental attitudes and behaviors. The obtained results were also subjected to a comparative analysis of two groups of respondents: inhabitants of towns and villages. The study did not show any significant differences between residents of towns and villages in terms of their ecological awareness and environmental attitudes and behaviors. It can therefore be concluded that changes in the sphere of awareness and specific environmental actions that are being taken in the surveyed community are not related to the place of residence. Residents of towns and villages have a similar access to knowledge and cultural changes concern both groups. It is worth pointing out that awareness as such and knowledge of the environment does not guarantee developing proper attitudes and pro-ecological behaviors, and changes in the area of specific environmen-Laura Płatkowska-Prokopczyk 1634 tal activities are of a long-term nature and do not occur overnight. Research has also shown that although knowledge about ecology is not always reflected in everyday attitudes and behaviors of the respondents, changes in environmental direction can be observed in both urban and rural areas.

The aim of this study was to evaluate environmental awareness of young people and effectiveness of education used by national parks. The research occurred in the period from 2012 to 2014. The Veľká Fatra National Park (Slovakia), Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Czech Republic), Bieszczady National Park (Poland) and Bükki National Park (Hungary) as parks of countries of the Visegrád Group were analysed. The study was focused on the target group of students of gymnasiums and secondary schools in the regions where national parks are located and outside these regions. In all the analysed countries we used a questionnaire, which was distributed among 1301 students. For each respondent, answers were entered in a spreadsheet and statistically analysed. The following non-parametric statistical tests were used: Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman, Wilcoxon and parametric ANOVA. The best results were noted among students from Poland and the Czech Republic. In other countries of the Visegrád Group therefore it is appropriate to introduce actions aiming at increasing the ecological awareness of students, according to the models of education functioning in national parks and schools in Poland and the Czech Republic. It is also necessary to revise the ways in which national environmental education exists in all studied countries, as well as to strengthen volunteer activities.
