Ontology-based Approach to Build Intelligent E-Learning Systems

2010

Today e-learning systems become more and more social and have tendency to include web 2.0 software. A number of online tools and resources give a new adaptive and integrated environment for educational purposes. The Long Tail Learning phenomenon promotes a better motivation and involves students in learning. But all these benefits miss a component of the concept knowledge about a studied domain which is usually provided by a teacher. Meanwhile, ontological engineering is a very effective methodology to create, keep up-to-date, review and structure teaching courses and materials. The combination of the ontology-based approach and the new web 2.0 technologies suggests that students engage in an active learning process where such skills as collaboration, creative and analytical thinking, communication and socialization are developed more effectively. The first results of applying the described technology prove a wide perspective of the use of this technology as a part of e-learning systems.

Ontology-Based Model of Information Technology for E-Learning Systems

2019

The article is devoted to the ontology-based model of information technology for e-learning systems which are based on the creation of the course ontology and the didactics of E-learning. The authors conduct an overview and create a classification of modern information technologies in education. The article also describes what benefits can be obtained using the chunk-based approach to analyze students’ knowledge. A new model of interaction between the all members of the educational process is proposed. The authors come to the conclusion that the educational application of the ontology-based model of information technology for e-learning systems should be based on granting lecture lessons with an additional motivational component, creating computerbased support of unsupervised work, automatizing knowledge level control

A novel adaptive learning management system using ontology

2015 IEEE Seventh International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Information Systems (ICICIS), 2015

The success of web technologies has prompted a developing consideration on e-learning activities. Notwithstanding, most current e-Learning systems give static web-based learning with the goal that learners get to the same learning contents through the web, regardless of individual learners profiles. These learners may have altogether different learning foundations, information levels, learning styles, and capacities. The 'one size fit all' in an e-Learning frameworks is unmistakably a commonplace issue. To defeat this impediment and build powerful learning, versatile and customized learning is as of now a dynamic examination range. This paper propose a novel approach for designing and implementing adaptive learning management system based on ontology and semantic web technologies by offering a tailored model which represents the different activities that should be completed by learner. It offers a framework that is based on both learning styles and ontology to address the impact of student behavior.

E-learning Information Technology Based on an Ontology Driven Learning Engine

Based on the experience of using the " Moodle " , the application of new ontology-based intelligent information technologies is proposed. In the article, proposed is a new e-learning information technology based on an ontology driven learning engine, which is matched with modern pedagogical technologies. With the help of proposed engine and developed question database we have conducted an experiment, where students were tested. The developed ontology driven system of e-learning facilitates the creation of favorable conditions for the development of personal qualities and creation of a holistic understanding of the subject area among students throughout the educational process.

Adaptive Teaching and Learning Using Ontology 1

2013

The emergence of World Wide Web has provided more e lectronic resources to the learners in the elearning field. The users are overloaded with elect ronic resources for a specific topic or domain. Thi s research proposes a tool using ontology to evaluate the -content and make the content adaptive to the need of the learner by generating concept maps for the e lectronic content. The tool also identifies the str ength and weakness of the e-content by comparing with exp ert ontology. The tool is effectively used to personalize the content based on the knowledge leve l of the learner. The tool generated concept maps a re 60% in accordance with expert ontology.

Educational Ontology Development

Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology, Fourth Edition

Ontology use in education environments can be explained in three groups: content access and/or retrieval, content creation, and personalization. Use of ontologies helps content creators to design, develop online courses; provide smart searches and content suggestions; and, design personalized learning environments for learners. But it is not always possible for educators to find the best ontology for their needs in their Learning Management System. Since the ontology creation is a complex process, it might not be always easy or even possible to create an ontology for a selected domain and use accordingly. In this paper, first, a review of state-of-the art literature regarding the ontologies in educational domain will be reviewed. Second, the challenges and difficulties in ontology development process for educational domain will be addressed and explained in detail. Finally, design suggestions to the difficulties expressed in the literature and further opportunities in ontology desig...

E-Learning Developing Using Ontological Engineering

2013

One of the most important prerequisites in base plan for long-term development of all countries is high education level in society what includes e-learning studies. The time is coming when global tasks could be solved only with communication and learning in world level. Ontological engineering have become an efficient methodology for knowledge representation and management in many domains and tasks. Ontology design, approaches and methodologies are very important issues for building ontologies for specific task. This paper presents the application of the ontological engineering methodology in e-Learning domain. There is the development of two web-based ontologies in the area of artificial intelligence technology. The first one is the “Artificial Intelligence in Education” ontology and the second is ‘Expert Systems” ontology. The developed ontologies were encoded in OWL-DL format using the Protégé-OWL editing environment. The ontological engineering methodology is widely used in many...

Ontology in Adaptive Learning Environment

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing, 2012

Adaptive e-learning systems can be defined as systems offering personalized solutions to suit individual learners' needs. Thus personalized solutions are built with respect to different kinds of adaptation which are content and navigation. The goal of such adaptive environments is not to make learning material accessible but to improve learning by adapting navigation, interaction and content. For this aim, it was necessary to investigate the learner profile and activities modelling. Actually, with new kinds of adaptation induced by mobility needs of learner, the learner profile modelling have to be adapted. We propose a more exhaustive learner model which we call "learner context". Thus, in adaptive learning systems, an adequate modelling approach must be proposed and integrated with respect to learning reusability and interoperability. In this respect, semantic Web technologies especially ontology seem to be an efficient modeling approach and can be used to take adaptation decisions. we intend to explore how ontologies can harmonize different aspects of an adaptive e-learning system. Such ontologies could be used to assist designers and authors in the modelling of contextualized learning or even to directly generate such experiences themselves.

Ontology based Semantic e-Learning Model– A Review

International Journal of Computer Applications, 2018

We focus on the role of ontologies in developing learning constraint-based tutors, a special class of intelligent tutoring system (ITS). Domain models for ITS are extremely difficult to develop, and therefore efforts devoted to automatic induction of the necessary knowledge are of critical importance for widening the real-world impact of ITS. Ontology formally represent knowledge as a set of concept within domain, and the relationship between pairs of concepts. It can be used to model a domain and support reasoning about concepts. This show ontology takes an important place in e-learning system. Ontology is used to classify the things which are needed in e-learning system.

Creating of an Educational Enviroment Using Ontology-Based Approach to E-learning Systems

2020

The article disclosed the meaning of the concept of “educational environment”, describes the technology of creating such an environment based on ontology-based approach to e-learning systems, namely its components: conceptual, semantic, procedural and control-correction. The process of presenting e-learning content, which is based on a certain set of logically related blocks (chunks) and its properties, is described. The essence of didactic and content ontologies of academic discipline is revealed. Examples of the application of technology in the study of disciplines: “Computer Graphics and Multimedia”, “Linear Algebra”, “Calculus”, “Data Structure”, simulated interdisciplinary connections using chunks.
