ASSESSING THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP ON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: A QUANTITATIVE STUDY

This paper examines the impact of social entrepreneurship in community development in Pakistan using quantitative research. The current phenomenon of social entrepreneurship as integrating innovative and effective approaches to address social problems has constantly aroused interest in the process of stimulating community's development. The significance and purpose of this current research is to conduct a systematic analysis of the correlation between social entrepreneurship in an agenda of community enhancement involving; economic growth, social welfare, infrastructure growth, social inclusion and environmental regeneration. The surveys were carried out in a community sample across Pakistan to measure the number and operations of identified social enterprises. The findings affirm positive and statistically significant relationship between SE and PD and hence the show that SE can be a powerful tool for change in the society. Therefore, this research fills the knowledge gap in regard to community development through social enterprises and made the following policy implications to promote social entrepreneurship in Pakistan.
Social Entrepreneurs and Community Development. A Literature Analysis
What do social entrepreneurs do? Do they play any significant role in community development? Could they really play any meaningful roles in community development? These are some of the questions that were taken on in this paper which relied immensely on secondary data. To achieve a healthy infusion of the different misconceptions of the concept of social entrepreneurship, there was an unpacking of the terms social and entrepreneurship. What emerged was a finer articulation of a concept that counts on individuals or a group of them working together to address matters of significance to a set of people. Some examples of the good that social entrepreneurs can and have done are presented, while some of their challenges are highlighted. The paper concludes by recommending a further engagement of the subject in an empirical form to better ascertain their real impact. The paper also suggests an examination of the legislative frameworks that exist in other countries for the benefit of the South African government.

This paper examines social entrepreneurship as a way of attaining sustainable community development. It specifically examines the practice of social entrepreneurship and how the idea gained popularity in recent discourse, as well as the focus of the idea as the use of business ventures in addressing social problems, promoting economic growth and enhancing community development. The paper adopted a conceptual review method to reveal that social entrepreneurship is a hybrid approach that emerge to transform communities with deliberate thoughts of social responsibility and has the potential of addressing social, economic and environmental challenges of communities including poverty, climate change, unemployment, education, healthcare, and security among others. Sustainable development requires a sustained social entrepreneurship that presents a holistic approach to community's growth and development. Social entrepreneurship is therefore a veritable tool for sustainable community development which every nation must aspire to promote, encourage and establish policies capable of enhancing it.

We learned in the fi rst chapter that social exclusion as a practice is capable of depriving several sections of people from mainstream society, whereas social entrepreneurship could form an antidote through transforming their lives. However, it is argued that unlike the established institutions such as the state or other civil society organisations, social enterprises initiate entrepreneurial ventures to create both fi nancial and social value by building on community culture and capacity building. Thus, the way that social enterprises interact with communities and the structures in which they operate is of crucial importance to understand the fi eld of social entrepreneurship. The chapter builds on literature related to community participation and embeddedness and analyses how they infl uence the practice of social entrepreneurship. One of the major problems with regard to the developmental discourse so far is the fact that it has ignored community participation in the planning and execution of the very projects that are meant to improve their lives. As a result, Burkey (1993) claims that many of the efforts to foster the economy of developing regions have largely failed. He further explains that such efforts have neither been grounded in local cultures and values, nor have found sustainable efforts to manage the initiatives for longer periods, especially beyond available funding. This has led to communities disowning the initiatives or projects which were meant to improve their living conditions (Hall and Hickman 2002 ; Boyce 2002). The result of such interventions and operations are both critical and appreciable. Social development is a comprehensive measure of large number interrelated indicators. Different approaches have been emerged in the course of history for addressing the issues of social development. Government, private and non-profit sectors are actively involved for the cause of social development through unique approaches. The scope of social entrepreneurship is not limited unlike business entrepreneurship which has its concentration on the economic growth/profit that too limited to the benefit of an individual or group of individual. Individuals, group's civil society organizations and communities are the typical stakeholders who have been used it as a tool for social development and change. Social entrepreneurship has two dimensions; it aims to solve an existing social problem and the people who have involved will have sustainable benefits from the innovative approach. The present paper attempts to conceptualize and correlates the role of social entrepreneurship towards the positive and participatory social development. This paper examines core concepts of Community Economic Development in depth focusing on a small number of source publications to ensure that the depth of idea is fully captured. This paper also offers original ideas of the author developed as the readings proceeded and an understanding of subject acquired more depth. Finally, this paper takes a brief look at three social enterprise organizations in light of prevalent theories of expansion of Community Economic Development.

The time in which we currently live and will continue to live is a time of changes, which are comprehensive, deep and quick. They occur in almost all spheres and areas of human activity and life. Regardless of their causes, they are all structural changes whose consequences are primarily economic in their nature. The last three decades have been characterized by a rather significant increase in entrepreneurial activities, which is why they are often referred to as "the age of entrepreneurship", "entrepreneurial revolution" and "entrepreneurial renaissance". Enthusiasm towards the role of entrepreneurship in the economic development has had an impact on the development of social entrepreneurship in the last few decades. Thus, the new entrepreneurial culture has also spread to the social sector. Increasingly higher expectations are being set on social entrepreneurship in terms of addressing the needs in the social sector and achieving socioeconomic security. Social entrepreneurship implies innovative and financially sustainable activities targeted at social problems. However, its commercial activities do not necessarily need to coincide with the social mission; rather, their purpose is to create financial resources to implement social objectives. Thus, social entrepreneurship can encompass a rather broad range of organizations and businesses-ranging from those which generate their own profit to those which obtain resources for ENTREPRENEURSHIP 157 other organizations that fulfill the social mission. This paper will explain the importance of the social entrepreneurship concept, entrepreneurship with moral and ethical integrity, criteria for its classification, as well as criticism of this concept. In the end, an overview of development of social entrepreneurship in the Republic of Croatia and in the world.
Volunteerism and Social Entrepreneurship Among Older In-migrants to Rural Areas

Social entrepreneurship is constituted of various market initiatives aimed at balancing the economic objective achieved with the so-called social goals. These initiatives are both top-down (e.g. non-for-profit companies established as a result of public-private partnerships), mixed (e.g. student cooperatives supported by enterprises) and bottom-up (e.g. social cooperatives of natural persons). The phenomenon of social entrepreneurship is located in the area of social economy considerations, although it seems to go beyond the framework set for this area of knowledge. This means that social enterprises do not submit to the commonly used economic accounts of the functioning of business entities. It also means that the measurement of the (social) value of their functioning is subject to constant discussion, both in the area of scientific knowledge and socioeconomic practice. Social enterprises operating in rural areas constitute a special type of social economy entities. In addition to tasks related to economic activity and the function of stimulating social capital of Polish villages, they seem to fulfil important tasks in the area of strengthening the transformation of Polish villages to modernity, both on the level of management and social activity. The paper presents the issue of social enterprises as an actual and potential tool to support the development of Polish rural areas. This issue is considered in the context of the theory of social costs, assuming the interdependence of all activities carried out in the so-called common space, and the theory of social capital, according to which the "thicker" the network of social relations is, including the economic ones, the more the quality of life increases. Reference is also made to the original model of the Matrix of Social Enterprises, on the foundation of which the Matrix of Social Enterprises in Rural Areas is described. As a result of the conducted research, selected manifestations of social entrepreneurship of Polish villages are identified and described based on the Matrix of Social Entrepreneurship, both in the context of their historically rooted traditions, economic and social conditions and culture-forming functions. The paper formulates conclusions regarding the growing importance of social entrepreneurship for Polish countryside, especially with regard to the ability to create labor demand, market cooperation and social capital thickening. There was also formulated a positive assessment of the impact of social entrepreneurship on the contemporary rural areas.
