Study and Analysis of the Delay Problems in Iraqi Construction Projects
Delays in of construction projects is a problem, suffered by all construction projects in the world, and this problem is very large in Iraq, where a very small percentage of the construction projects were completed within the contractual period and especially in the last period due to circumstances experienced by the country, and this led to negative effects on the society and on the economic side of the country. This study aims to identify the key factors that cause delays in the construction projects, to achieve this goal has been studied the problem of delay in a six construction projects in Iraq and hold interviews with a group of engineers working experts in the competent departments of construction projects in Iraq. In addition, a questionnaire survey was conducted to groups of engineers who have an experience in the construction industry for identifying the key causative factors of delay. The results of this study identified forty-eight key factor causes the delay in the construction projects of Iraq, where the factor of lack the financial capacity of the contractor during the execution having the most effect on the occurrence the delay and followed by other factors. The benefit of identifying the causative factors for the delay is to provide a database for decision-makers for managing time well by taking effective measures to reduce delays in the construction projects.
Evaluation of Delays Generated in Construction Projects
IAR Consortium, 2022
The research aims to know the delays in the construction projects, where this phenomenon was touched to the parties to the project from the owner, contractor and consultant, from the delay in benefiting from the project to an increase in the cost of works. Due to the disputes that occur this delay, and sometimes the poor quality of the work due to the acceleration of work in order to reduce the delay after the end of the project time as a result of the prosecution of the owner and the consultant. This study explored the important factors affecting construction project delay in the context of the construction sector in Iraq. It will be important to enhance training in detailed project planning and scheduling, and during the construction phase to carefully control budget and material orders to ensure business continuity. Within the planning, it will also be interesting to develop and implement integration models between the professionals involved, objectively defining roles and implementing them in the most approximate manner; In addition, it will be useful to implement project modeling techniques that allow the design and construction work of the relevant professionals to be combined and to get an idea of the final result, identifying potential risks. Currency fluctuations, since they cannot be controlled, should be considered as a relevant point within the contingency margin, which again corresponds to good initial planning. Finally, it would be useful to focus efforts on fighting corruption and fraudulent practices in construction projects, which hinder the progress of developing countries
The management of construction projects in Iraq and the most important reasons for the delay
Acta logistica
In Iraq, there is a vast construction movement. Still, it is accompanied by many problems, the most important of which is the delay in completing projects during the specified time. The time must be optimized by adopting the leadership practice and dedicating it to the benefit of performing the process and functions of the project. The research aims to identify the most important reasons and factors that affect the project delivery process within the specified period. The investigation initially dealt with the most important previous studies, on this subject, by researchers, then touched on the concept of construction projects, their types and details. A questionnaire containing reasons for the delay was identified and divided into several items. It concluded that the most common reasons for delays are delays in laboratory testing of materials, assignment of works to the lowest bidder, contractors' financial incompetence, and high building materials prices. The most crucial fact...
Recommendations to Mitigate Delay Causes in Kuwait Construction Projects
Construction project delay is global problem in all construction industry. In Kuwait, there were many conducted research work aimed to identify delay causes in Kuwait construction projects. This paper aims to propose set of recommendations to mitigate effect of delays in construction projects in Kuwait. Rresults of previous research work were used as bases for propose recommendations. Previous research results are divided into five ranks (Top, highly, moderate, low, and very low ranked delay causes). Top causes are investigated and analyzed to identify why these top-ranked delay causes are happened and how to prevent their occurrence and/or mitigate their effect in case of occurrence. This research limited to provide proposals for top ranked only as it is more efficient. Most of these recommendations are oriented to governmental influencers. These recommendations contain revision and change project contract documents, shortening period for documentary session, changing contract conditions especially clauses of programming and delay analysis, and revise project awarding systems. These recommendations need governmental support to enhance project time performance in Kuwait. The results of this study can be used as a base for any effort to solve and dilute effect of delays in construction projects in Kuwait.
Empirical study of schedule delay in Moroccan construction projects
International Journal of Construction Management , 2018
As a chronic and a common problem worldwide, most construction projects suffer from schedule delay and construction projects in Morocco are not an exception. The aim of this study is to determine the critical causes affecting projects delays in Moroccan construction industry. Fortynine causes of delay were identified from the literature review and redefined through interviews with Moroccan experts. These causes are classified according to nine categories: client, contractor, consultant/designer, finance, planning and scheduling, communication and contractual relationship, material, labours and equipment, and external. A questionnaire survey was conducted with public and private contractors and consultants in order to assess the relative importance of construction delay causes in Morocco. A total of 330 valid responses were collected. Statistical analysis of data collected from this survey study reveals that the top-10 delay causes are: delay of progress payment, lack of training for employees, lack of waste management strategy, unrealistic contract duration imposed by clients, rework due to the construction errors, excessive subcontracting, delay in obtaining permits from governmental agencies, ineffective planning and scheduling, lack of collective planning, and unskilled workforce. These findings can be helpful for construction project managers to guide efforts in improving the performance of the Moroccan construction industry.
Analyzing Causes of Delay in Construction Projects
Time overruns has been a noteworthy issue in numerous Indian construction projects. The successful execution of construction activities and keeping them within recommended plan and cost is imperative for compelling time execution and cost execution. This thesis work is done on concentrating on noteworthy factors creating Time overruns in Indian construction industry. A valid questionnaire for the overview was produced taking into account factors for time overruns recognized from writing survey. These factors are assembled into 9 groups for time overruns and disseminated among three parts in particular Real Estate, Infrastructure and Industrial of Indian Construction Industry. The information from the survey was broke down measurably. Relative vital list system was utilized to establish out the most noteworthy variables influencing Time overruns. The result accomplished from the survey revealed that the major cause for time overruns are Clearances on Delay, Drawing Revision and Clearances from Consultant/Client/PMC, Incompetency of Labour, Unrealistic Planning and not using Monitoring and controlling Tools & Technologies, lack of Leadership qualities in Managers, Procurement Planning and Procurement Process. The study discoveries highlight the noteworthy factors and a few recommendations are given to control time overruns in Indian Construction Industry.
