International Journal for Research in Applied Science and Engineering Technology IJRASET, 2020
An expeditious transformation is taking place in the edification sector, where more of online and technical mode of communication is being habituated vis-à-vis traditional approach. Many online platforms are adopted by the erudition givers to edify the target audience. This Research paper focuses on the Free and Open Source Learning Management System (LMS) MOODLE for knowledge sharing and assessment there are multiple LMS available today with the incrementation in demand, however, in this study, the researcher has fixated on the role of MOODLE LMS for imparting cognizance from an educator's perspective.
TEACHING WITH MOODLE IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Nowadays, with the use of technology and the Internet, education is undergoing significant changes, contemplating new ways of teaching and learning. One of the widely methods of teaching used to promote knowledge, consists in the use of virtual environments available in various formats, taking as example the teaching-learning platforms, which are available online. The Internet access and use of Laptops have created the technological conditions for teachers and students can benefit from the diversity of online information, communication, collaboration and sharing with others. The integration of Internet services in the teaching practices can provide thematic, social and digital enrichment for the agents involved. In this paper we will talk about the advantages of LMS (Learning Management Systems) such as Moodle, to support the presential lectures in higher education. We also will analyse its implications for student support and online interaction, leading educational agents to a mixing of different learning environments, where they can combine face-to-face instruction with computer-mediated instruction, blended-learning, and increases the options for better quality and quantity of human interaction in a learning environment. We also will present some tools traditionally used in online assessment and that are part of the functionalities of Moodle. These tools can provide interesting alternatives to promote a more significant learning and contribute to the development of flexible and customized models of an evaluation which we want to be more efficient.
Learning Management System -Moodle: Impact on Teacher Educators
Learning Management Systems (LMS) have been extensively accepted by higher education institutions universally for over a decade. Educational organisations now spend a significant proportion of their resources on installing and maintaining these systems. This expenditure continues to increase, raising questions as to whether LMS in educational organisations are fulfilling their potential. Learning Management Systems are now installed in the majority of higher education institutions. These web-based LMS are proposed to support teaching and learning activities. They consist of various features that enable teacher educators to share learning materials as well as providing interaction with their students both synchronously and asynchronously (Vovides et al. 2007). The most widely adopted LMS are Blackboard, Sakai, KEWL, and Moodle (Unwin et al. 2010). The research paper focuses on the LMS Moodle. Institutions use the LMS to supplement traditional face-to-face delivery where teacher educators develop and share digital learning materials via the Internet. In this case, the LMS are used as an electronic repositories of learning materials (Vovides et al. 2007). Institutions especially those offering distance education, have been combining LMS with traditional face-to-face delivery in order to reach more learners across various geographical boundaries (Andersson & Grönlund 2009). In light of these benefits, the adoption of LMS by higher education institutions has continued to increase in recent years. With the continued increase of LMS in recent years, this paper researches by suggesting strategies that can help teacher educators make more effective use of LMS.
Effective E-Learning through Moodle
ijater.com
E-learning is an emerging field as a promising instructional medium as well as a ripe arena in which to conduct research on its impact on teaching and learning activities. The fundamental nature of e-learning as an instructional medium differs substantially from face-to-face delivery, thereby requiring more new features for course development, online assessment and interaction. Moodle is a software package for producing internet-based courses and websites. It is a Learning Management System (LMS) that allows better cooperation among learners, tutors and students. In this paper we explore the implementation of effective e-learning through moodle and also present how the various facilities of Moodle are used by tutors to provide interactive and stimulating learning experiences in providing higher education in various colleges of technology.
19th Annual Conference of the Australasian …, 2008
Australia and provides a unified third and fourth year curriculum for the mining engineering degree for 90% of Australia's mining engineers. A fourth institution, the University of Adelaide, will be joining MEA from 2009. This paper provides an overview of the issues MEA faces as a collaboration in supporting teaching and learning activities for students across four partner institutions. The paper discusses MEA's adoption of Moodle as its Learning Management System. It explores the pros and cons of open source products and the strategies necessary to ensure successful adoption across multiple campuses. The paper provides a rationale for MEA's selection of Moodle as its LMS, the opportunities this choice provides and outlines the strategies put in place to ensure its successful uptake.
To Moodle or not to Moodle: Can It Be an Ideal e-Learning Environment?
Ritsumeikan University Journal of Policy Science, 2011
Moodle is popular all over the world as a course or content management system (CMS)1. It’s a free, open source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help both educators and researchers create effective online learning communities. It is quite useful and convenient to set up with some basic databases on a server and it’s possible to teach any class or provide interactive Web pages using it on any Web server platform that supports PHP. Without any special web editing skills, teachers can present online materials to be a coherent whole and simplify the way students access it by the Moodle interface. The author has been teaching a variety of courses including several semester-long undergraduate and graduate classes since 2005 while coordinating CALL (computer assisted language learning) programs. He has found it essential in a blended learning situation or a distance-learning environment to promote active learning by students. The author will make a practical ...
The use of moodle as a learning management system to improve student learning outcomes
THE 8TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON TRENDS IN SCIENCE AND SCIENCE EDUCATION (AISTSSE) 2021
The purpose of the study was to determine the improvement of student learning outcomes by using Moodle as a learning management system during the covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic period requires students to carry out distance learning. A Learning Management System is a web-based software application that is designed to plan, implement and assess the learning process. This study was conducted by using quasi-experimental method. The sampling technique was random sampling. The population of this study was 11 classes with 301 eighth grade students of one of SMP Negeri in Medan. The sample of this study was one class, consisted of 28 eighth grade students. The research instrument used was multiple choices test with 4 options that measured learning outcomes in the cognitive domain. The average pre-test and post-test was respectively 31.61 and 79.82. The percentage of increasing N-gain score of student learning outcomes was 70%, in the medium category. The highest percentage of increasing N-Gain score was found in remembering indicator that was 76% in the high category. The result of the study showed that the use of Moodle as a learning management system can improve student learning outcomes on light and optical instruments.
Personalized e-learning in Moodle: the Moodle_LS System
Journal of E Learning and Knowledge Society English Version, 2011
Learning Management Systems are among the most popular e-learning tools. Over the last few years, however, scientific research has made considerable progress in developing valuable resources currently unavailable in most Learning Management Systems, including solutions aimed at providing students with personalized support throughout the learning process, which is an essential requirement in continuing education. Observing and modelling the learner, and adapting their learning experience accordingly means opening up new technological and, above all, methodological perspectives in e-learning. The work described in this paper is part of the Open Learning project, in which business-based and university researchers aim to combine the most frequently used e-learning technologies, Learning Management Systems, with the benefits of customized systems so as to develop an innovative learning content delivery system based on the personalization
