Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest health problems. Indonesia is a country with a positive high number of E. coli (71%) Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) in the Asia Pacific. Many studies report that essential oils and extracts from several species of Ocimum have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and negative bacteria. Antibacterial activity is related to active compounds contained in plants that are also affected by the place of growth, harvesting and post-harvesting. Basil (Ocimum basilicum) leaf essential oil contains terpenoid compounds that have antibacterialactivity. This study aims to obtain hand cream preparations of basil essential oil, as well as to determinethe effect of concentration variation of liquid paraffin on the results of the evaluation of the preparation.In this study, three formulations of hand cream preparations of basil essential oil were made withthree variations in the concentration of liquid paraffin, namely F1 (9%), F2 (10%), and F3 (11%).Furthermore, the preparation was evaluated for 28 days at room temperature (15-300C) and humidity(60-80%) which included organoleptic, pH, viscosity, homogeneity, spreadability, and type of emulsion.The results showed that formulas F1, F2, and F3 met all the requirements of organoleptic, pH, viscosity,homogeneity, spreadability, and type of emulsion. Isolasi dan Identifikasi Komponen Kimia Minyak Atsiri dari Daun, Batang dan Bunga Tumbuhan Salembangu (Melissa sp.)

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui rendemen dan komponen kimia minyak atsiri tumbuhan Salembangu (Melissa sp.). Sampel yang digunakan adalah bagian daun, batang, dan bunga. Minyak atsiri tumbuhan Salembangu diperoleh dengan metode destilasi uap-air, kemudian destilatnya dipisahkan dengan corong pisah, sehingga diperoleh rata-rata rendemen minyak atsiri pada daun, batang, dan bunga berturut-turut sebesar 0,51%, 0,29%, 0,90%. Analisis komponen kimia minyak atsiri tumbuhan Salembangu dilakukan dengan menggunakan Kromatografi Gas Spektrometri Massa (GC-MS). Komponen terbesar minyak atsiri tumbuhan Salembangu pada daun adalah kurkumin pada batang adalah 4-Terpineol dan pada bunga adalah Syringol. Senyawa yang mencirikan aroma khaspadatumbuhan Salembangu adalah Zingeron.

Isolation of Essential Oils from Essential Roots (Vetiveria zizanoides L.) with Preparation Using Liquid Nitrogen

Fragrant root oil production can be done by various methods including distillation, pressing, extraction using solvents and extraction using solid fat. Efforts to increase the production of quality fragrant root oil before the extraction process carried out 2 treatments on the sample, namely chopping and preparation using liquid nitrogen. Research that has been carried out sample preparation using N2 (l) has proven to be effective in increasing oil yield. In fresh samples, the yield of oil obtained from the steam-hydro distillation method is 0.84% (variation 1) and 1.2% (variation 2) while for the socletation method is 1% (variation 1) and 2.4% ( variation 2). From the results of GC-MS analysis, the fragrant root oil of the dry sample was identified as composed of 68 components and there were 2 components that were suspected as oil fingerprints namely khusimene (4.44%) and nootkatone (2.02%)

The aims of this study were to determine total phenolic content, antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity of polar and nonpolar extracts of basil (O. sanctum L. ) seed. Seeds of basil (O. sanctum L. ) were extracted using a soxhlet extractor using four types organic solvent, i.e. chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, and methanol for eight hours each. The total phenolic content was determined using Folin Ciocalteu method, antioxidant activity was determined using reducing power and DPPH (1,1-diphenyl,2-picrylhydrazyl) scavenging activity methods, while antibacterial activity was tested using agar diffusion method. The result showed that the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity was obtained in methanol extract with 3.63 ± 0.21 mgGAE/g phenolic total, 58.39 ± 3.81 m ek/g using reducing power method and 85.73 ± 0.86% free radical scavenging activity. FORMULASI SEDIAAN LIPSTIK EKSTRAK BUNGA ROSELLA (Hibiscus sabdariffa) SEBAGAI PEWARNA DAN MINYAK ZAITUN (Olive oil) SEBAGAI EMOLIEN

Islam adalah agama yang indah dan menyukai keindahan. Lipstik digunakan dengan tujuan membentuk penampilan bibir agar menarik, melindungi bibir dari kekeringan dan tidak ada efek samping. Penggunaan rosella sebagai pewarna dan minyak zaitun sebagai emolien dalam formulasi sediaan lipstik, dikarenakan bunga rosella (Hisbiscus sabdariffa L.) memiliki pigmen merah dari antosianin dan minyak zaitun dapat digunakan sebagai emolien yang berfungsi menjaga kelembaban pada kulit. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan adalah maserasi simplisia bunga rosella dengan etanol 96%. Komponen lipstik yang digunakan adalah cera aba, vaselin alba, setil alkohol, lanolin, nipagin, titanium dioksida, oleum rosae, minyak zaitun dan ekstrak bunga rosella dengan konsentrasi 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%. Pengujian yang dilakukan meliputi: uji homogenitas, uji stabilitas, uji oles, uji titik leleh dan uji pH. Uji kesukaan dan uji iritasi dilakukan pada 25 panelis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi ekstrak bunga rosella 0% tidak berwarna, konsentrasi 2%-4% berwarna merah pudar, konsentrasi 6% berwarna merah, konsentrasi 8%-10% berwarna merah tua. Konsentrasi ekstrak 0%-4% tidak mengalami perubahan warna (stabil) dalam penyimpanan suhu ruang selama 30 hari. Sediaan 1,2,3,4,5 dan 6 tidak menimbulkan iritasi, gatal-gatal serta kulit kemerahan pada kulit setelah beberapa jam pengolesan yang dilakukan pada kulit.

Antibacterial Activities of Green Basil (Ocimum Violaceum) Essential Oil and Derivatives By MAOS (Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis) Against Staphyllococus Aureus and Escherichia Coli

Green basil (Ocimum violaceum , Linn.) plantis part of the varieties of basil (Ocimum basilicum, Linn.). Green basil essential oil (GBEO) contain chemical compounds that have an anti-bacterial activities. Methyl eugenol and methyl chavikol are in green basil oil has the potential to be used as a material which is biologically active. Conversion reaction of the compounds in GBEO with MAOS methods (microwave assisted organic synthesis) aims to obtain properties of the main chemical component in a wider sweet basil oil, and are also useful in an attempt to gain more valuable compounds for commercial and higher. The results showed that the optimum reaction conditions on the conversion reaction of compounds in GBEO with MAOS method with ethylene glycol as a solvent is 10 % KF/Al 2 O 3 as catalyst and reaction time 3 minutes , while the solvent is glycerol 10 % KF/Al 2 O 3 as catalyst and reaction time 2 minutes. Comparison of anti-bacterial activity resulting from this research are : the inhibitory activity to the growth of S. aureus bacteria have the following order : GBEO > green basilEG10-3 > green basil G10-2> amoxicillin with each inhibition zone diameter amounted to 30.7 mm, 21.1 mm, 18.2 mm and 13.4 mm. While the inhibitory activity to the growth of E.coli bacteria are : GBEO> green basil G10-2 >green basil EG10-3 > amoxicillin with each inhibition zone diameter of 21.1 mm, 15.6 mm , 15.2 mm and 7.9 mm. GBEO and its derivatives have minimal inhibitory concentrations below 1.25 %. From the results of the study found that the main derivates obtained are p-methoxy anisaldehyde , caryophyllene oxide , 3-methoxy cinnamaldehyde , humulena oxide and delta cadinol .

Pembuatan Minyak Atsiri Kemangi (Ocimum Basilicum L.) Dengan Menggunakan Metode Distilasi Uap Langsung

Abstrak Daun Kemangi selain memiliki cita rasa yang khas saat dikonsumsi, daun kemangi juga mempunyai khasiat kesehatan bagi tubuh. Pada daun kemangi terdapat kandungan  minyak atsiri atau minyak basil atau disebut minyak esensial.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kondisi bahan kemangi terhadap % rendemen dan karakteristik dari minyak kemangi yang dihasilkan. Penelitian daun kemangi menghasilkan minyak atsiri dengan variasi perlakuan yang berbeda pada bahan baku yaitu daun kemangi segar utuh, segar cacah, layu utuh, layu cacah, kering utuh sampai dengan perlakuan kering cacah. Ekstraksi Dan Karakterisasi Minyak Atsiri Dari Daun Limau Kuit Dengan Metode Distilasi Uap–Air Dan Kondensor Bola Termodifikasi Serta Analisis Komposisinya Menggunakan GC-MS

Limau kuit is a typical orange from South Kalimantan which is used by the Banjar people in some certain local culinary. This experiment is explorative research that aims to determine the yield of essential oils obtained by hydrosteam distillation method with ball condenser (type of Allihn) cooling, to determine the characterization of the oil comprising specific gravity, refractive index, optical ratation, solubility in alcohol, the composition of using GC-MS. The leaves of limau kuit were air-dried for one week to decrease the water content and then were cut into smaller pieces about 5 mm in size. A 2.050 grams of the sample lay into the tray of the distillation kettle which was filled with adequate water. The distillation was carried out for about 6 hours and 50-60oC in temperature. The results showed that the performed extraction yielded 0.59%-(v/w) or 0.52%-(w/w) of oils.
