Hybrid decision model for information project selection
Quality & Quantity, 2011
Information project selection is an important and recurring activity in many organizations. Establishing a systematic project selection model thus is important for organizations. However, information system project selection is made difficult by the need to consider numerous quantitative and qualitative factors, such as business goals, benefits, project risks and limitations in available resources. This study proposes a hybrid measurement model for evaluating the overall effects of information projects. The selection model generates critical, quantitative and qualitative indicators to help managers realize the advantages/disadvantages of operational conditions. This hybrid selection model not only accelerates project evaluation and selection, but also helps organizations optimize project selection and thus achieve sustainable development.

It is also presented the model proposed by Green Project Management, oriented to sustainability, and is also emphasized the importance of identifying the best approach to follow in the development of a new project in this Digital Economy era, knowing that besides the traditional predictive and agile approaches, there are rising new hybrid approaches, gathering the positive characteristics of the both of them.
Digitally-Enabled Project Management Strategies.Managing Risk to Support Digital Transition
Back To 4.0: Rethinking the Digital Construction Industry
This paper presents the methodology, as well as first results, of an action research aiming to develop digitally enabled project management strategies for the Italian construction sector to support the transition from traditional and atomized processes to digital and integrated workflows. The main objective of this research project, which is being carried out in collaboration with an Italian architecture and engineering company, is to provide design firms with a digital transition strategy taking into account both business priorities and risks involved in this change management. Given the international competitiveness, the Italian construction sector is more and more asked to boost innovation in both products and processes. Lagging productivity is an ongoing challenge that could be overcome just by developing digital environments, driven by a knowledge-based economy. Workflows and worksets, as well as synergies and alliances, are key-concepts of this change. The research project is focusing on the aforementioned change management by 1) Breaking down a traditional design process in phases and activities; 2) Identifying outputs and involved stakeholders; 3) Selecting a BIM-based pilot project as casestudy; 4) Designing the related BIM process workflow; 5) Highlighting how the BIM process changes in comparison to the traditional one. The research project is now analyzing benefits and risks of this process of change. The final goal will be the development of an interpretation map of the construction process which identifies risks related to this change. Starting from this process map, design firms could develop their own risk-response strategies according to organizational model, supply chain and national context within which they work.
A Framework to succeed IT Project Management in an era of Digital Transformation
This article makes a general study of IT project management problems, specifically in an era of digital transformation. The collection of quantitative and qualitative data has been done by means of investigation reports already published in international groups, direct observation in the field (the case of an IT company), and interviews with project managers and different stakeholders during the implementation of IT projects. The results of this study allowed us to identify the key factors of failure of IT projects, which are directly related to the way this specific type of project is managed. Throughout the observation, solutions to each problem were identified, tested, and improved. In order to propose a well-defined framework, for the management of IT projects. This framework is presented in the form of a project lifecycle, defining the different stages of each phase of the IT project lifecycle.
A Decision Making Aid Model for Project Management: A Strategic Decision Process
Journal on Innovation and Sustainability. RISUS ISSN 2179-3565
The implementation of a decision support system and decision-making plays an important role for the outcome on the objective of a project. As important tools, the knowledge from the internal and external of a project and the experiences of project managers and experts are significant assurances to make a better decision, therefore a better concrete aggregate alternatives decision. The purpose of this paper is the development of a Decision Making Aid model with alternatives decisions and solutions (DMAM) to help the process of decisionmaking. By choosing the most appropriate model and alternatives, the proposed model aims to solve given problems pinpointed on the ―Framework for Classifying the Project Management Research‖. The model takes into account the complexity of the project and the existing alternatives decisions and solutions of previous cases. The results indicate that this model significantly reduces time and marginal error for decision-making

Project management, and software project management in particular is a complex and multidimensional task. As projects become more software intensive, their management and implementation complexity increases. Managing software projects is actually managing complex projects. A software product or project is considered to be a brain product. Having to manage the way an individual or a team thinks towards delivering a project successfully, requires more management capabilities than individual experience. Project management methodologies have been and keep on being developed for the same purpose, to run a project on time, budget, and quality. Unfortunately there are many dimensions on how success can be either conceived or obtained. This paper initially redefines the project management concept using a number of facets and dimensions on project management implementation. This new definition diversifies the types of organizations performing project management. The paper indicates that this diversification creates a need for selecting the proper project management methodology. It also proposes a specific approach to be used, based on the project constraints facets and dimensions but primarily on the type of organization.
