The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between IT capability, IT adoption, logistics service quality and performance of third party logistics firms in Uganda. The study was prompted by the delays in customs clearance; bureaucratic systems and lengthy cargo forwarding processes largely of manual nature that are evident among the activities of the third party logistics providers in Uganda. This could be attributed to lack of IT capability, low IT adoption and poor logistics service quality. A cross sectional data was collected from a sample of 80 registered Clearing and forwarding firms in Uganda selected from a population of 109 firms using a simple random sampling technique. Data was collected using a close ended questionnaire. The results indicate significant positive relationships between IT capability, IT adoption, logistics service quality and performance of third party logistics firms. Findings also revealed that IT adoption and logistics service quality are significant predictors of the performance of the third party logistics providers. However, IT capability was found not to be a significant predictor of performance of third party logistics providers. Findings further revealed that IT adoption was a better significant predictor of the performance of third party logistics providers than logistics service quality. The research recommends that clearing and forwarding firms in Uganda need to adopt IT quicker and increase logistics service quality in order to improve on the performances of their clearing and forwarding operations especially in the areas of documentation, cargo tracking, warehousing, and shipment operations.

The application and development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have already had significant effects on many industries, especially in the field of freight distribution. This paper examines the impact of ICT on the performance of freight distribution in terms of supply chain, logistics and fleet management. A survey was conducted to 77 ICT users from 22 companies consisting of 6 manufacturers, 5 third part logistics, 4 freight forwarders, 5 warehouse operators, 8 wholesalers and retailers. A descriptive statistical analysis was used to analysis the data obtained. One of the major findings of the research is the impact level of ICT use by Freight industries in Lagos and Ogun State which falls into moderate impact on their performance as majority of them only use the low technology for information gathering. It was discovered that the major barrier to use of ICT is the acquisition cost. Government needs to promote a sharing of knowledge about the use and the role of ICT in logistics with logistics firms by facilitating a demonstration of technology solution and expand innovative public and private financing methods in generating finance and building skills for the development of ICT capacity

Effects of Information Technology on Logistics Firms' Performance in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia
International Journal of Academic Research in Accounting, Finance and Management Sciences
Logistics is the backbone of global economic growth. When the economy grows rapidly, more efficient logistics are required to accommodate the growth. Information technology (IT) has aided in the transformation of logistics firms' supply chain roles. As a result, IT is regarded as a critical factor influencing the process of modern logistics companies in terms of efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery. Although implementations have become more widely used in recent years, there is still little research focusing on the actual adoption effects on the logistics industry's company performance in Malaysia. The study's goals are to look at how IT implementation in tracking, safety and security, customer service, and information integration affects the performance of logistics firms in Shah Alam, Selangor. The hypotheses and prediction model in this study are tested using correlation and multiple regression analysis based on data collected from 44 logistics firms in Shah Alam, Selangor. The findings show that IT implemented in tracking, safety and security, customer service, and IT integration have a significant positive impact on firm performance. The largest contributor among the three variables is IT integration, followed by customer service, and the smallest contributor is tracking, security, and safety. This research will assist logistics players in achieving superior performance in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. As such, it is useful for strategic IT investment planning and decision making, as well as developing systematic approaches to IT implementation in the logistics industry.

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has fundamentally changed the competitive dynamics of the logistics service industry, forcing incumbent logistics service providers to digitalize. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of digitalization in improving the performance of a logistic company, using PAYTON logistic Uganda as a case study. To support this, three research questions were developed: The study attempted to identify what impact digitalization plays in improving the performance of logistic companies like our case study. What are some of the most innovative technologies that have had the greatest impact on the performance of logistics firms? What are the primary barriers and success factors for logistical digitalization? The research population includes PAYTON logistics Uganda employees. With a target population of 85 and a sample size of 70 respondents, the study used both qualitative and quantitative research designs. The research technique employed both primary and secondary data, as well as interviews and questionnaires. The findings indicate that digitalization plays a critical role in improving the performance of logistics companies, with a correlation of 0.725 and an increased in both profits and Operation efficiency by 35% and 40% respectively. The study also revealed that, innovative technology like hyper automation , elastic logistics, Cloud computing , block chain , green logistic etc have greater impact on logistics performance. It was also further determined that leadership, supportive company culture and aligning business and IT strategies represent some of the success factors for digitalization in logistics, while a complex logistic network and process, lack of resources and proper choice or design, and resistance to chance are some of the biggest barriers of digitalization in logistics. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract The research aims to analyze the impact of ICT usage on logistics activities of manufacturing companies. The business environment today has been undergoing unprecedented change and many companies are seeking new ways to stand out from the competition by sustaining their competitive advantage. In today's highly competitive global marketplace, the pressure on organization's to find new ways to creating and delivering value to customers is growing stronger. ICT is today being applied in many organizations in a wide range and operations areas. One hundred manufacturing companies, basically medium/large companies formed the sample of the study based on random sampling technique. Apart from the descriptive statistics adopted, data analysis was done using SPSS to obtain the correlation coefficient of variables. The study revealed that there were strong relationships between ICT usage and Logistics activities, although managers recognize the importance and need of ICT adoption for building and enhancing their competitive advantage, adoption of their ICT tends to reduce operating costs more than improve service levels. The research recommends that Government should facilitate manufacturing companies' gainful participation in global value chains through policy initiatives in specific areas by promoting technological upgrading and facilitating of compliance procedures through adoption of process and products standards. __________________________________________________________________________________________
Technology adoption in small and medium-sized logistics providers
Industrial Management & Data Systems
Purpose ‐ The main aim of the research is to shed light on the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in the logistics innovation process of small and medium-sized third party logistics providers (3PLs). Design/methodology/approach ‐ A triangulated research strategy was designed using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The former involved the use of a questionnaire survey of small and medium-sized Italian 3PLs with 153 usable responses received. The latter comprised a series of focus groups and the use of seven case studies. Findings ‐ There is a relatively low level of ICT expenditure with few companies adopting formal technology investment strategies. The findings highlight the strategic importance of supply chain integration for 3PLs with companies that have embarked on an expansion of their service portfolios showing a higher level of both ICT usage and information integration. Lack of technology skills in the workforce is a major constraint o...
