EFFECTS OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY ON STUDENTS' LEARNING OUTCOMES IN MATHEMATICS
Gazette- A Multidisciplinary Journal of the Faculty of General Studies., 2018
Conventional teaching method is often used in our classrooms but always end up in poor achievement. Mobile technologies have great potential for facilitating more innovative learning approach. This approach in educational methods will likely not only help subject content learning, but may also facilitate the development of communication, problem-solving, creativity and other high-level skills among students. Despite the proposed advantages of mobile technology in teaching and learning, researchers have found mixed results regarding the effects of the usage of mobile devices for academic purpose This study considered the effect of mobile technology on students’ learning outcomes in mathematics. A pretest posttest control quasi-experimental design was adopted. Three federal government colleges in Lagos were purposively selected following the pattern of their gender; boys only, girls only and one coeducational. Five SSI students were purposively selected from each of the single sex schools and ten (five boys and five girls) were randomly selected from the mixed school. The single schools were assigned to the experimental group while the coeducational school was assigned to the control group. Two validated instruments Mathematics Achievement Test on Trigonometry (MATT, r=.75) and Students’ Attitudes Questionnaire on Mathematics (SAQM) were used to collect data. Two research hypotheses were formulated. The data was analysed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). There was no significant effect of mobile learning on students’ learning outcomes however, students exposed to mobile learning (mean=14.673) achieved higher than their counterpart in conventional method (mean=12.327). Mobile learning approach is better than conventional method. This study recommended that education should be beyond the four walls of classrooms. Educators need to be convinced that mobile learning is effective and will benefit them in the delivery of instruction. Technology in instruction and how to use it should be communicated to educators so that they can see the benefits of using mobile technology in instruction.

Technology has the potential to improve many aspects of our daily lives, including learning. It has been proven to increase student engagement and learning outcomes. With recent advances in the capabilities of smart mobile devices and their growing penetration rate among the student cohort, it is possible to take advantage of these devices to design appropriate exercises and tools that foster student’s knowledge and learning. In this paper we present some of the most well known mobile procedures that are used for secondary students in order to promote their learning and their skills. Additionally, its role in secondary students who face learning and other difficulties is investigated. Lastly, the results of a study that examined whether there is a relationship between the performance of secondary school Greek students in the language lesson, in mathematics lesson and index of verbal intelligence, index of intelligence practice and general index of intelligence are showed thoroughly.
The use of mobile devices in the students' learning process on elementary and secondary school
" If we want students to become smarter than a smartphone, we need to think harder about the pedagogies we are using to teach them. Technology can amplify great teaching but great technology cannot replace poor teaching " (OECD, 2015). Nowadays, the Neumann Galaxy lives together with the Gutenberg Galaxy. Both printed books and mobile devices can be applied in education. The following question often arises: In which proportion should they be used by teachers and by students? We believe in the learner-centred pedagogy and we analyse this question from the student's side. We are focusing on the types of mobile learning. Mobile devices allow the students to develop innovative learning skills. The question is, whether they can leverage these potentials? Do they know the relevant online curriculums, platforms and applications? Do they have incentive for integrating mobile devices in their learning process?
Sustainability, 2020
The number of mobiles surpassed the population of the planet in 2018. Without a doubt, they have become the tool of reference in our social life, as well as in our work and leisure, but in educational centers, they continue to be used inefficiently or are declared off limits to some classrooms. This study aims to establish the relationship that the use of mobile phones in secondary education schools may have in regard to the student’s academic performance. For this purpose, we will carry out a secondary exploitation of the Ministry of Education database for 2017 with the data of 1,887,027 students from 7381 compulsory secondary education schools in Spain. As a method of analysis, a multilevel correlation study is carried out.
