The study investigated the effects of individualized counselling technique on remedying truancy among junior secondary school students. Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at the 0.05 level of significance. Forty truant students aged 11-13 were randomly selected from JS 1 and JS II students of Capital City Secondary School, Awka. Quasi - experimental design was used for the study. Two instruments were used. Truant identification for teachers and a checklist on children's truancy were developed and validated. Results were analysed using t -test. The experimental groups were exposed to treatment conditions, while the control group was not. The findings showed that using individual counselling techniques had significant effects on truants and consequently reduced truancy. The truants in the experimental group acquired more effective regular school behaviour. Implications of the findings were shown and recommendations were made

Research on Humanities and Social Sciences, 2013
The present study is an attempt to find out the relationship of certain socio-psychological variables with the truant behaviour. The sample for conducting the present study included 100 students in class 9 th , which include 50 truants and 50 non-truants. Two tools were selected by the researcher namely Dr. S. Jalota and Sharma for general mental ability(1972) and school satisfaction by Dr. Meenakshi Sharma (1991). T-Test was used to find out relationship. The results reveals that habitual truants and regulars do not differ significantly on the variable of school satisfaction possess lower non-verbal intelligence. The higher level of processors towards truancy among boys may be explained considering the fact that boys have lesser social inhibitions, more parental freedom and less home responsibilities.
