The Correlation of Critical Thinking Skill and Science Problem-Solving Ability of Junior High School Students

2017

: This paper intends to seek the correlation of critical thinking skill and problem-solving ability of students on Natural Sciences Subject within Junior High School in Ecosystem topic. The subject of this research consisted of 135 students of 8th Graders in Odd Semester SMPN 17 Kendari Academic Year 2016/2017. This research employed two instruments, namely, critical thinking skill test in the form of multiple choices and problem-solving ability test in the form of an essay. The data obtained were then analyzed by calculating the average and employing correlational statistics. This research proves that students’ critical thinking skill average is 35.74, the problem-solving ability is 48.18, and the correlation coefficient is 0.31. It further means that only 9.61% of problem-solving ability could be explained by critical thinking ability. Key Words : critical thinking skill, problem-solving ability Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan kemampuan berpikir kritis...

Critical & Creative Thinking Ability given the Inquiry Component in Elementary School Science Lessons

Thinking Skills and Creativity Journal

The 21st-century skills are critical thinking skills and creative thinking skills. These skills are needed by someone to be successful in facing challenges, an increasingly complex and uncertain life, and to be successful in life and career in the world of work. This study aims to analyze critical and creative thinking skills in terms of the inquiry component in science learning in elementary schools. The research sample is elementary school students, with a total of 31 students. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. The experimental research method used in this research is quasi-experimental. Quasi-experimental is used so that researchers can analyze the differences between the two treatments in the control class and the experimental class. The research design used was a non-equivalent control group design. The results of the analysis of critical and creative thinking skills for the control class inquiry model were 45....

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Among Students

Business Economic, Communication, and Social Sciences Journal (BECOSS)

The development of the times is the background of increasingly rapid technological advances. The times have become the basis for the education industry to continue to grow. The development of education is expected to produce high-quality human resources and are able to think critically and creatively in solving problems. Quality education will lead to quality human resources as well. Critical thinking and problem solving as skills that need to be mastered by students, especially the younger generation. It has been widely recognized as one of the most important skills. Someone who has the ability to think critically and problem solving is considered to have many benefits because he has the ability to analyze certain situations and make the right decisions for the situation at hand. The research was conducted to determine the level of critical thinking and problem solving skills among students and students using three variables. The results of the study were analyzed using descriptive...

Effecting Change on Students’ Critical Thinking in Problem Solving

2018

: C ritical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skill s fu l ly conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. Most formal definitions of critical thinking characterize critical thinking as the intentional application of rational, higher order thinking skills, such as analysis, synthesis, problem recognition and problem solving, inference, and evaluation . Critical thinking and problem solving have long been important terminologies in the context of education, but within the framework of the 21 st century classroom, they take on very specific definitions. Critical thinking employs higher level analytical skills to understand a problem and to work toward a means by which it can be solved, that word implies an answer . This study investigated the effect of using problem situations on the cri...

Determination of the science process skills and critical thinking skill levels

Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2010

In this research, it was tried to determine the science process skill (SPS) and critical thinking skill (CTS) levels of the 8th grade elementary school students. With this purpose, 308 8th grade students from each of high, middle, and low socioeconomic level schools (totally from six schools) in a randomly selected province of Aegean region were selected as the sample. At the end of the research, it can be said that the students who completed elementary education have middle level developed SPS and CTS. And it is thought according to this research findings that it is important to perform more comprehensive instruction by using different measurement tools.

https://www.ijrrjournal.com/IJRR\_Vol.10\_Issue.3\_March2023/IJRR-Abstract66.html, 2023

This study aimed to examine the effect of the problem based-learning based on science edutainment in scientific content on students' critical thinking and learning outcomes. The type of research used in this study was quantitative. This study had conducted in class V of 48 students at SD Negeri 12 Buay Pemaca. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, documentation, and tests. The result showed that based on the independent sample ttest on the learning outcomes ability variable obtained a significance of 0.000 > 0.05, which means that problem based-learning model based on science edutainment had affected the increase in students' learning outcomes. Based on statistical tests, the independent sample t-test showed a significant value of 0,000 > 0,05, meaning that the science edutainment problem based-learning model had influenced students' critical thinking. This study concluded that a problem-based learning model based on scientific learning affected students' critical thinking and learning outcomes.
