Many researchers have discussed about the podcast as an alternative teaching media to support students developing their speaking skills. This research article aims at finding out if there is a significant improvement on students’ speaking skills by using this Podcast. Class XI IS3 was chosen as the sample of this study with total 30 students. This pre-experimental study employs pre-test and post-test. These tests are provided in the form of oral tests. The data from these tests were then calculated by using statistical formulas. The result showed that the post-test score was higher than the pre-test. The finding showed that there was a significant improvement of the students’ speaking skills performance after undertaking treatments. Thus, podcast media can be used as one of the alternative media in teaching English especially speaking skill in EFL classes.

NACETAL (The National Conference on Language Teaching and Linguistics), 2019

What is so-called as internet disruption alters the paradigms as well as realms of today's English language learning-teaching over the worlds, that is facilitating ESL learning through Multimedia language learning. Digital technologies-based language learning, podcasts, contribute to the authenticity of language learning (contextual learning), and thorough comprehension through words-images collaboration. This learning perspective is under the cognitive theory underpinning on the three assumptions; the dual channel assumption, the limited capacity assumption, and the active learning assumption. The implementation of the podcasts is to scaffold ESL learners by feeding treatments and giving help for fostering an English proficiency. Moreover the use of podcast is considered as an alternative language learning tool for helping developing speaking skills. INTRODUCTION Todays' ESL learning and instruction claims the importance of e-language learning which is called as the use of multimedia based technology to facilitate the authentic language learning. Some academicians and professionals attempted to incorporate the multimedia as language learning media within pre-planned English curriculum producing more effective toward ESL learning result. It is thought that the presence of technology cutting down language learning contexts suggests it is a new trend altering the traditional perspective on ESL learning from the formal classroom context to the increasingly-productive one. The rapid development of current technology as the causal impact of the 21 st century indicated by the information and technology development facilitates the ESL teachers and professionals to design their English course along with certain technologies as means of English language learning. As Zhen (2016) asserts on the use of multimedia in a foreign language learning in which multimedia has several advantages in language teaching as in, offering more information, saving more time, stimulating the learner's imagination as well as his creativity. The term of multimedia in education is always interrelated to using a computer, a supporting means, in favor of upgrading ESL learning effectiveness. The fore-said term is integrated into CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning). It is because of technology-based language learning. But then in line with the great improvement of digital technology, there are some digital media are properly considered as English language learning instruments such as an online podcasting program. Podcasts are today developed to be the alternative teaching media to facilitate or to support an English learner for developing speaking skills (Samad et al, 2017). Moreover

Arab World English Journal , 2023

This study aimed to investigate the role of podcasts on language development as an indirect educational approach to language in general and listening in particular among Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMISIU) EFL beginners. Thus, the purpose of this study lies in its potential effect on students of English by improving the process of introducing them to podcasts as a new input tool. Additionally, it examined how students perceived the use of audio-podcasts outside the classroom. Three questions were addressed in this study via a quantitative approach, a quasi-experimental pre/post-test method. These questions were: 1) What is the effect of using the Podcast Episodic Series of Spoken Word Digital Audio on developing the listening skills of Saudi undergraduate students? 2) How may the podcast facilitate the development of listening comprehension of Saudi undergraduate students? 3) What are Saudi university students’ attitudes towards integrating audio podcasts as a new input tool in the EFL classroom? Study participants in both experimental and control groups were 20 female students studying level two at the College of Languages and Translation (CLT), IMISIU in Saudi Arabia. The findings of the paired sample t-test method showed that there is a relationship between achieving high scores in the listening tests and implementing audio-podcasts as an indirect educational approach. A 10-item questionnaire was used to explore students’ attitudes toward the use of audio-podcasts by using the 5-point Likert scale. The findings showed that respondents have a positive attitude towards integrating audio podcasts as a new language input tool in the EFL classroom. The results also emphasize how imperative it is to incorporate podcasting into the process of developing listening skills to reduce anxiety among EFL learners, familiarize students with how to use the language in real-life situations, and learn the language from its native speakers.

Podcasting as a tool to develop speaking skills in the foreign language classroom

The EuroCALL Review, 2020

It is essential for foreign language learners to have adequate opportunities for speaking in order to enhance the acquisition of oral communicative competence. Although research over the last few years has dealt with the potential of podcasting for the development of oral competencies, little has been done towards its application in the improvement of speaking skills or the correction of pronunciation. This article presents experiments with podcasts developed in French foreign language classes over the course of ten years. The results obtained relate to the following three aspects: firstly, selection and analysis of the available tools fostering greater oral activity and effective correction of pronunciation; secondly, the quantification of spoken language according to the actual duration of the podcasts, as well as preparation time estimated by the students; finally, the evaluation of spoken language using certain indicators of improvement of pronunciation.

Using Podcasting as a Revision Tool by Iranian EFL Learners

International Journal of Education, 2011

This study was an attempt to investigate the effect of using podcasting as a revision tool in the recall of English vocabulary items after the teaching program and prior to the examination among Iranian EFL learners. It applied a quasi experimental approach to determine whether the students who were exposed to podcasting were better in recalling the learning material or not. For this purpose, 68 EFL learners were selected from an English teaching institute in Iran as participants. They were divided into two groups. The first group was exposed to the vocabulary items as presented in their textbooks by means of their conventional teacher student classroom settings, textbooks and hand written notes. The second group received the same material as audio recordings on podcasts. At the end of the semester (after 2 months), both groups were examined by the same multiple-choice test to assess their performance on the material. The results confirmed the positive effect of using podcasts as a revision tool in learning English vocabulary and better recalling of the words.
