Mental health is one of the important aspect of an individual. It affects the acquiring knowledge and learning. Yogic practices enhance our mental health so ,every persons should practice yoga for better life . The human values can be cultivated and retained through yoga and lead to wisdom and understanding humanity. Yogic philosophy posits that every life form is interconnected and united so, yoga"s greatest aim is to create compassion within and a deep sense of unity and oneness with all forms of life. Yoga as a technique used to skill the fluctuation of the mind to reach to reality of the true self (Iyengar,1966). Yoga is a holistic system of mind-body practices to attain self-actualisation by asanas, breathing techniques, cultivation of awareness and meditation. The purpose of this empirical study is observe that relationship between yoga and mental health for enhancement of mental status with yoga practices in context to better learning and acquiring knowledge.
Analysis of Well Being of People Practicing Yoga

Background: De-stressing for achieving a sense of well being has become an absolute necessity for people to reduce psycho-somatic disorders. The degree to which one experiences control over one’s response to life events will have a buffering effect for adverse life events and will enhance wellbeing. Subjective wellbeing indicates how people evaluate their lives in terms of feelings of wellbeing or the lack of it. Effect of Short-Term Yoga Practices on Psychological General Well Being in Medical Students

Yoga is assuming importance in improving mental health and quality of life and in the treatment of a number of psychiatric and psychosomatic disorders. Medical students are foundation of the medical profession; hence they must be aware of the alternative and adjunct therapy for the betterment of their patients. One of the most beneficial alternative therapies is Yoga therapy. Medical students must know how yoga is useful for their patients. Keeping this objective in mind, the present study was conducted on medical students to make them aware what yoga is and to encourage them to incorporate yoga in their life and to use it for the benefits of their patients as an adjunct to the medicinal treatment. The study was conducted on healthy medical students (21 males and 15 females) of age group 17-21 years in the department of physiology, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, and Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital, Indore. After obtaining an informed consent; and satisfying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the psychological well being of the subjects was assessed by "Psychological General Well Being Schedule Score (Sajatovic 2003)" on the first day before the subjects started yoga practices. The students performed the yoga practices in the morning for one hour, six days in a week, for four weeks under expert's observation. The yoga practices consisted of Prayer, Omkar recitation, asana, and Pranayama. Psychological well being was assessed using the same schedule score on the last day of yoga programme. Data thus collected were compiled, tabulated and analyzed by using students' 't' test. There was highly significant improvement in psychological well being of the students as denoted by p value of <.0.001. Conclusion: There is a marked improvement in the psychological well being scores of the students after performing short-term yoga practices. By extending these results we suggest that short-term yoga practices can therefore make an appreciable contribution to primary prevention as well as management of various psychological and life style diseases.
Effect of yoga on Happiness and Mental Health among aged male and female
Background: Mental, Physical health and Happiness are important factors as it affects almost every aspect of life and determines what activities or every single task one emerges in or not, and the likelihood of which task or activity one is able to complete successfully. The conceptual background of yoga has its origins in ancient Indian philosophy. There are numerous modern schools or types of yoga each having its own distinct emphasis regarding the relative content of physical postures and asanas, (pranayama), deep relaxation, and meditation practices that cultivate awareness and ultimately more profound states of consciousness. Yoga Provides us peace of mind, Good mental health, energize and balance of our body ultimately leads to a sense of self control, Provide us good mental health and Happiness. Title: The present research makes an attempt to ascertain the Effect of yoga on Happiness and Mental Health among aged male and female. Sample: The sample of 120 aged male and female were selected purposefully. Instruments: The present study takes into consideration the two psychological tests. First was Oxford Happiness questionnaire which was made by Oxford University and second was Mental Health Inventory (MHI), developed by Bhatt and Gida. Mental and Physical Health Study of Yoga Practitioners and Non-Practitioners
Good health is a fundamental human right of every individual. Yoga has always been considered to contribute a good health. The present study attempted to compare adult participants (N=100, age: 18-35 years) comprising 50 yoga practitioners and 50 nonpractitioners from the residential areas of Punjab state in India for their mental and physical health status. World Health Organization quality of life scale (WHOQOL) was administered to all participants to find out status of various health facets. Obtained data were treated to one-way ANOVA statistics. Yoga exercise practitioners reported comparatively sound sleep, enhanced energy level, and overall general health wellness. Analysis of the scores revealed the significant differences (F(1,98)=70.37, p<.01) between the yoga practitioners and nonpractitioners groups. Yoga practices' benefits were explored across the nine facets of mental and physical health. This study clearly shows that yoga practice improves the mental health of the people.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine whether there is a significant difference in psychological well being of Yoga/Meditation practitioners and non-practitioners as well as in men and women practitioners and non-practitioners. Secondarily, the effect of yoga and meditation has been discussed. Method: 200 participants of age group from 25 to 50 (Male=100 and Female=100) were assessed through Ryff Psychological well-being scale. 100 participants were practitioner (Male=50 Female=50) while other 100 participants were non-practitioners (Male=50 Female=50) All the participants were given 18 items scale to solve. Results: 200 participants completed the questionnaire. The average score increases in and non-practitioners to practitioners were 10.4%. With the statistical analysis of t-test the null hypothesis got rejected indicating there is a significant difference in the psychological well-being of practitioners and non-practitioners of Yoga/Meditation. Conclusion:Yoga/Meditation may be beneficial for betterment of psychological well-being of a person.
Statistical Study of Yoga on Mental Health among Children of Residential School
This paper summarizes the statistical evidence on the effects of yoga interventions on various components of mental health. Tension, stress, anxiety, depression or traumatic experiences are some mental illness. Adolescence is a stage in one’s life when a variety of mental health problems are more likely to develop. In the present study, yoga has been shown to be effective in reducing mental imbalance conditions. We perform our study over school children of age group 8-14 of Birla Education Trust’s residential school at Pilani. We involve 276 male and female students from Birla Public School, Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Birla School for an experiment. Different tests are conducted before and after yoga to measure mental status and results are compared statistically. All inferences are depicted in tables and conclusions are drawn in the last.
Impact of Yoga & Meditation on Psychological Pattern of University Students: A Scientific Paradigm

To improve the quality of life, there has been the search of strategies for handling stress, and subjective well-being. These explorations have led us to ancient disciplines such as Yoga, which combine the physical elements of a healthy lifestyle with mental peace. It integrates the personality by bringing body-mind-soul coordination in a well-balanced way. The present paper is aimed to create awareness of the need of regular practice of Yoga and Meditation among the matured group of students at university level which will certainly help to improve the qualities of their mind for not only worldly achievements and success in life but also in attains, the ultimate goal of life which is spiritual upliftment. This scientific study compared 'impact of yoga alone and yoga with meditation on alteration of psychological profile of university level students. It was predicted that practitioners' psychological wellbeing would vary as a function of their parameters like stress, ESP, PSI-Q, and Working Memory. Result was statically analyzed using null Hypothesis. The experimental results are very optimistic in that yoga & meditation combined practice can alter an individual's social, self, physical and emotional wellbeing .It also indicates that practitioners with yoga with spiritual intentions reported significantly higher psychological wellbeing compared with practitioners doing yoga alone.

Introduction: Well-being is a positive outcome that is meaningful for people and for many sectors of society, because it tells us that people perceive that their lives are going well. many indicators that measure living conditions fail to measure what people think and feel about their lives, such as the quality of their relationships, their positive emotions and resilience, the realization of their potential, or their overall satisfaction with life—i.e., their “well-being.”1, 2 Well-being generally includes global judgments of life satisfaction and feelings ranging from depression to joy.[3, 4] According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, mental illness is characterized by alterations in thinking, mood or behavior associated with distress and impaired function. [5] It could refer to one or more mental disorders at a time. Mental illness is a global public health concern. According to the World Health Organization, one out of four (25%) persons is affected with some kind of mental illness.[2] The prevalence of mental disorders is higher in developed countries, but the global burden of untreated mental disease is higher in developing nations.[6,7] Eighty percent (80%) of the population suffering with mental illness lives in low-and middle-income (LAMI) countries.[6,8,9,] The presence of mental illness does not affect only the individual and his personal, social, educational and occupational life, but it also makes his entire family to suffer from negative consequences.[10,11] Aim: The purpose of this study is “To assess the efficacy of Selective hath yogic Practices onGeneral Wellbeing of mankind”. Method: For this study we had selected randomly 50 Sanskrit students with age ranging between 18 to 26 years of age. Practicing 51 minute/ day yogic intervention particularly and only those students were considered who were willing to participate in such type of practices. The students are male and almost equal in the term of education, mental status, socio economic status and types of work. Then at the initiation of practice 0th day pre-data was collected by team on general wellbeing questionnaire given by N. N. Wig and S. K. verma(P.G.I. Chandigarh, General wellbeing questionnaire, 1973) and at the end of session on 45th day of intervention post data was taken by the same. Result: According to obtained data we found that there was statistically significant difference at 0.01 levels between pre-and post conditions in the level of General wellbeing of the adults. This reveals the effectiveness of Hath yoga practices in enhancement of General wellbeing in special reference of adults. Conclusion: finally, we can firmly state that Hath yoga practices can play an efficient role in the enhancement of positive General wellbeing in the adults. Background: Yoga is considered to be effective in overcoming various physical and mental health problems. Effect of yoga on promoting mental health has been reported. Aim: This study was undertaken to analyze the effect of yoga on mental state of people, which indicates the psychological condition of the mind. Research Design: Survey method was adopted under the study. Sample: Consisted of 100 randomly selected yoga practitioners. Tools used: Used an interview schedule containing questions on how much yoga has contributed to improvement in their “mental state” through yoga, and what period of time were they able to experience the improvement in the mental state.
