An Evaluation of Students’ Attitude towards Entrepreneurship Education in some Selected Universities in North East Nigeria

The aim of this study is to examine the cognitive, affective, and behavioural components of students’ attitude and to examine the overall attitude of students towards Entrepreneurship education in Nigerian universities. The respondents were students from five selected universities in north eastern Nigeria. Purposive sampling was used in selection of the universities, while simple random sampling was employed in selection of the respondents. The instrument used was structured questionnaire based on Likert scales ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree on four points. Four hundred questionnaires were distributed, but only three hundred and seventy five were successfully retrieved and analysed. SPSS version 16 was used in the analysis of the data. The study falls within the domain of descriptive study. Variation of Attitude among University Students towards Entrepreneurship Education

:This paper examines the differences of attitude towards entrepreneurship education among students of some selected universities in north eastern Nigeria. Five universities where purposively selected, the respondents were randomly selected and stratified into two groups, males and females, science and humanities. The data were gathered through the use of structured questionnaires on four points Likert scale, ranging from strongly agree to strong disagree. Four hundred questionnaires were distributed and three hundred and seventy five were retrieved successfully from the respondents. SPSS version 16 was used in the analysis of the data. Descriptive, chi-square and t test were used to determine differences of attitude among the respondents. The chi-square results for the two hypothesis indicated that there is no significant differences of attitude among the respondents. Where the calculated value is 2.5628 and the tabulated value is 24.996 for the hypothesis one. Calculated value is 4.0609 and the tabulated value is 24.996 for the hypothesis two. The data was subjected to further statistical analysis using t test. The t test results confirmed the chi-square test results.

Attitude of Students toward Entrepreneurship Studies in the University of Calabar, Cross River State

This study was designed to investigate the attitude of students towards entrepreneurial studies in the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve this purpose, one hypothesis was formulated and a Survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of two hundred and twenty five (225) respondents was randomly selected from a population of 20193 of the undergraduate students of the University of Calabar as at 2014/2015 academic session. The selection was done through the stratified random sampling technique. The questionnaire was the main instruments used for data collection. The reliability estimate of the instrument was established using the Cronbach alpha estimate. Population t-test was employed to test the hypothesis at .05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that, students' attitude towards entrepreneurial studies is significantly positive. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that undergraduates in Universities in Nigeria are favourably disposed to entrepreneurial studies. It is recommended among others thatentrepreneurship development in Nigerian tertiary institutions should adopt entrepreneurial learning as entrepreneurship development method. Also, students should be mixed during entrepreneurship programmes with recourse to their level of creativity.

The Effects of Entrepreneurship Education on University Students' Attitude and Entrepreneurial Intention

The study is informed by high number of graduate unemployment and possibility of making entrepreneurship as a carrier choice affected by entrepreneurship education course offered by the students. This study investigated the relationship that exists between offering entrepreneurship education course and students intention to become entrepreneurs in selected universities in north east Nigeria. The population of the study were all undergraduate students from five selected universities in north east Nigeria. Purposive sampling was used in selecting the five universities, while simple random sampling was used in selecting four faculties and respondents from each university. The data was gathered across two semesters using four point Likert scale, ranging from strongly agreed to strongly disagree. SPSS version 16, descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were used in the analysis of the data. The results showed that the students agreed that there is positive relationship between offering entrepreneurship education and their intention to become entrepreneurs. The Pearson correlation results also showed that, there is positive relationship between offering entrepreneurship education course and students' intention to become entrepreneurs.

Perception and Attitude of Students of Tertiary Institutions towards Entrepreneurship Eduction In Nigeria

The Effect of Entrepreneurship Education on Entrepreneurial Intention among Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria

The objective of this study is to show the effect of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intentions of students among four tertiary institutions in Nigeria: a University, Polytechnic, College of education and a satellite campus of a University. Data was gathered from 381 students from the four institutions. SPSS was used to analyze the data gathered. Findings from the study reveal that the behavioral component of the students' attitude toward entrepreneurship education was positive. Many of the students enjoyed entrepreneurship education. Practical examples of entrepreneurship should be included more in classroom teaching. Many of the students show the intention of starting their own business when they graduate.

Entrepreneurship Education and Entrepreneurial Intention of University Undergraduate Students in Benue State Nigeria

This study examined the effect of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention of university undergraduate students in Benue State, Nigeria. The study specifically examined the effect of entrepreneurship education on start-up intention and innovation intention among university undergraduate students in Benue State, Nigeria. The adopted the cross-sectional survey design involving university undergraduates in three universities in Benue State. The population of the study comprised of 957 final year students from Faculty of Management Sciences from JS Tarka University Makurdi (224), Benue State University Makurdi (631) and University of Mkar, Mkar (102). Applying Taro Yamene’s formula, a sample size of 282 was realized. The study employed questionnaire as the major instrument for data collection. The items on the questionnaire were all measured on a 5-point scale ranging from 1=strongly disagree to 5=strongly agree. Result of pilot study showed that the reliability for each of the constructs was above 0.70. Simple linear regression analysis was used in testing the data gathered from the survey. Analysis was done with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 23). Findings revealed that entrepreneurship education has significant positive effect on start-up intention and innovation intention of university undergraduate students in Benue State, Nigeria. The study concludes that university undergraduate students’ intentions toward entrepreneurship can be enhanced using entrepreneurship education. This study is an initial call to elaborate an appropriate model of entrepreneurship education in universities in Benue State that will present a more practical and effective entrepreneurship education

An Assessment of Students' Perceived Ability and Attitude towards Entrepreneurial Education in Oyo State, Nigeria

Entrepreneurial ability is the capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit. It includes the application of professional knowledge, innovative ability and social ability. Entrepreneurial education is a prerequisite for addressing the problem of unemployment of school leavers (secondary and tertiary education graduates) in Nigeria as it prepares and equips them for their future pursuits. The study adopted for the study is the survey research type of the non-experimental design. Vocational and Technical Entrepreneur students from the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria participated in the study. The population consisted of all polytechnic students who are offering entrepreneurial courses in his or her departments. The Purposive sampling design was adopted in selecting the 100 students. Data collected were analysed using descriptive (percentages) and inferential statistics (correlation) at 0.5% level of significance. It is inferred from the results of the study that students' have a positive attitude towards entrepreneurship education; students have a great deal of entrepreneurial ability and students' entrepreneurial ability can positively and moderately affect their attitude to Entrepreneurial education. Moreover, the study recommended that educational stakeholders encourage students at all levels (especially at the tertiary) to put in more passion and time into entrepreneurial education as this will foster their ability viz a viz their attitude in the subject.

Higher Education Students Perception towards Entrepreneurship Education Evidence from Northern Nigeria

This paper assesses the perception of higher education students (universities, polytechnics and colleges of education) towards entrepreneurship education in Northern Nigeria. A total sample of 360 UG students were collected by using proportionate stratified random sampling from 3 universities, 3 polytechnics, and 3 colleges of education from three regions of Northern Nigeria. Hypotheses of the study were tested by using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that students’ perception towards entrepreneurship education, which was defined in this study in terms of adequacy (sufficiency of number of entrepreneurship courses, quality of the course contents, competence of teachers and teaching methods) and the relevance of studying the entrepreneurship courses were positively affected by type of institution in which student is enrolled. The study found that students of North-central region have significant positive difference in perception towards entrepreneurship education, when compared with students of both North-east and North-west regions. Further, university students have high positive perception for these courses, in contrast with the students of colleges of education and polytechnic who have high negative perception towards entrepreneurship education, when compared with university students. Findings of this study will add policy makers to redesign and tailor entrepreneurship courses to suit the needs of different institutions and regions.
