Background: Successful athletes are motivated for future-oriented for more achievements. Apprehensive athletes are not as successful as highly motivated athletes. The sport participation is influenced by many factors those contribute in success of athletes. Objective: To explore the motivational factors for sports participation among Pakistani athletes. Methodology: The cross-sectional survey was conducted on both male and female athletes (n=400) between the age of 14 to 40 years, played at the national and international levels at least from one year. The study was conducted at the Pakistan sports board (PSB) from July-December 2018. The non-probability convenience sampling was used in this study. This study represents a qualitative synthesis of research examining the socio-environmental influences of coaches, parents and peers on athlete motivation, across the athletic career-span. Using a critical-realist perspective, meta-interpretation methodology was deployed to search and analyse the literature. On-going, iterative analysis generated new areas of enquiry and new search terms, until the emerging analysis reached the points of saturation. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed during this process to produce a clear statement of applicability for the study. In the final analysis, a developmental structure was specified to describe the athletic career trajectory, together with a horizontal structure capturing seven domains of the motivational atmosphere surrounding athletes (competition, training, evaluation, emotion, authority, social-support, and relatedness), and a vertical structure varying in terms of level-of-abstraction: The global/ broad 'motivational atmosphere' containing contextual 'climates', built from immediate/situational 'motivational conditions'. A model of the overall 'motivational atmosphere' in sport, based on a meteorological analogy, is offered with a view to stimulating critical debate and new research directions that reflect the complexity of interpersonal motivation in sport.
Motivational factors related to female participation in collegiate sports

Despite the many health benefits, physical activity trends in females have been consistently reported to be lower than that of males. Other demographic variables may also be related to sport participation. The purpose of this study was to explore the factors that motivate college females to participate in sports. This was a cross sectional, causalcomparative survey study. Eight motivational factors were explored: fitness, skill/mastery, enjoyment, affiliation/recognition, team factors, ego/competition, parental support, and external rewards. Female college athletes (N=82) from two post-secondary institutions were surveyed using the 35-item Modified Sports Motivation Survey. Results indicated that all factors were important to participants with significant differences found according to eligibility in the motivational factor of fitness. This study represents one of the most comprehensive to date looking into the multifaceted and complex interactions of motivational factors that influence female collegiate sports participation in the United States, yet future research is needed to better understand the adherence to physical activity into adulthood.

Motivation for Participation in Sports Based on Athletes in Team and Individual Sports

There are many reasons why individuals are motivated to participate in sports. For athletes to participate in and keep up exercise, investigating the participation motivation of athletes is necessary. The aim of this study was to compare sport participation motivation of athletes in team and individual disciplines. The sample consisted of 265 athletes including four teams from football, volleyball, basketball, and handball and two individual disciplines of kung fu and taekwondo which were randomly selected. The 30-item sports participation motivation questionnaire (PMQ) was used. Analysis of data was conducted by the use of independent-samples t-test. Twenty-first-century education recognizes the role of sports as one framework for life-long skills, values, health, and well-being. The purpose of the study was to explore the on and off-field experiences of the six Junior High School student-athletes, the driving forces associated with their participation, and its influences and contribution to their excellent performance both in academics and in sports. This study utilized the qualitative research design using the phenomenological approach to gather insights into the lived experiences of the participants. The recursive textual data analysis revealed five core themes and the essence of the phenomenon: Motivated to Excel, Strong Support System, Rewarding Opportunities, Surpassed the Hurdles, and Exercised Self-Regulation. Motivational Factors That Play a Role in the Engagement of Athletes in the Field of Athletics

This aim of study is to identify the motivational factors that play a role in the athletic engagement of athletes who are based in the region of Southeastern Anatolia. The population consisted of individuals engaged in athletics in Turkey's Southeastern Anatolia Region. The study's sample consisted of 234 participants who were chosen randomly. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to check compliance with the normal distribution. The T-Test was conducted to compare the two independent groups of variables with the normal distribution, and the ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison tests were conducted for the comparison of more than two independent groups of variables with the normal distribution. The frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation values are provided as descriptive statistics. SPSS 22.0 software package was used for statistical analyses. As a result of the study, it was determined that the most influential factors encouraging individuals to pursue a career in the field of athletics were trainers, physical education teachers, friends and sports programs on TV. Their expectations from athletics were that it would allow them to be healthy, become a national athlete, and make money out of sports through their physical appearance. Their reasons for choosing the field of athletics were to gain success, become successful and healthy, make use of spare time, and a belief in the positive impact of athletics. The researchers in this large-scale study of Division I athletes examined the achievement motivation of 361 universit' student athletes. The relationship of motivational orientation to academic performance and identification was investigated using a paper and pencil Like rr-t)pe scale instrument based on self-worth theory. Fear offailure and the relative commitment to athletics was found to play important roles in the academic motivation of both revenue and nonrevenue student athletes. University student athletes present an apparent motivational contradiction. Most are highly motivated to succeed in the athletic domain, having been selected to participate in inter collegiate athletics because of their proven ability and desire to succeed. However, many of the most visible student athletes seem to lack such motivation in the classroom. Although these individuals are expected to maintain their athletic motivation at the university, they are likewise expected to demonstrate a similar motivation to succeed in the classroom. The maintenance of this academic motivation and achievement is made more difficult because of the institutional demands of their sport. Student athletes are required to devote upwards of 25 hours per week when their sport is in season, miss numerous classes for university-sanctioned athletic compe titions, and deal with fatigue and injuries as a result of their athletic participation. These factors detract from the realistic likelihood of academic success, which in turn affects their academic motivation to succeed. (American Institutes for Research [AIR], 1989). Negative stereotypes about athletes' lack of academic ability only add to these motivational difficulties (Dundes, 1996; Edwards, 1984). Athletic success requires an individual to work hard, be self-disciplined, exhibit persever ance and determination, be able to concentrate.

In the realm of collegiate athletics, there exists a prevailing understanding among student-athletes regarding the limited opportunities to transition into professional sports careers. Consequently, these individuals demonstrate a heightened awareness and preparedness for life beyond athletics, placing significant emphasis on their academic pursuits. Nonetheless, a paradox emerges concerning the motivation levels among student-athletes, wherein those achieving success in their respective sports exhibit high levels of athletic motivation, while others, despite possessing potential, display lower levels of motivation in this domain but are anticipated to demonstrate heightened motivation toward academic endeavors. This study endeavors to delve deeper into the academic motivation of student-athletes, alongside their athletic motivation, in order to elucidate the intricate dynamics at play. Employing a cross-sectional approach, the research was conducted among a cohort of 110 student-athletes affiliated with Doon University, Dehradun. Participants were administered forms encompassing inquiries into their demographic background, coupled with a self-administered questionnaire comprising the Student-Athlete's Motivation toward Sports and Academics Questionnaire (SAMSAQ). Statistical analysis, specifically Pearson correlation, was utilized to explore the relationship between the academic motivation and athletic motivation of student-athletes. Findings from the study unveiled a notable negative correlation between academic motivation and athletic motivation among college athletes. However, it is essential to acknowledge the limitations inherent in this investigation, notably the modest sample size. Consequently, the generalizability of these findings is restricted, necessitating further research on a larger scale to obtain more robust and accurate insights into this phenomenon. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the nuanced interplay between academic motivation and athletic motivation among university-level athletes. By elucidating these dynamics, it underscores the importance of holistic support systems that cater to the multifaceted needs of student-athletes, thereby facilitating their overall development and success both on and off the field.
