The main aim of the present study was to examine how well child abuse and gender could predict the loneliness of university students. There were 549 university students (189 male and 360 female) from Atatürk University who voluntarily participated in the research. The participants were selected through convenience sampling method. UCLA Loneliness Scale and The Scale of Child Abuse in the Family and demographic information form were utilized in paper-pencil format to the participants. A multiple linear regression was applied to test the research question. The results suggested that there was a significant relationship between loneliness, child abuse, and gender. Besides, a statistically significant difference among male and female participants was found for loneliness after an independent samples t-test analysis. In addition, male students (M = 38.74), comparing to the female students (M = 35.38), were found to be exposed to loneliness more (t547 = -3.54, p < .001). Also, results ...

Mediterranean Journal of Educational Research, 2021
Love is believed to be the source of many positive emotions in various fields including teaching profession. To put it simply, a teacher who likes children is compassionate, merciful and well intentioned. As a result, the state of teachers' tendency to like children is considered to be related to their attitudes towards their profession. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating whether there is a relationship between the undergraduate teacher education faculty students' tendency of liking children and their choosing teaching as a profession. Following the mixed methods approach, the study used questionnaire to collect the participants' relevant demographic data such as participants' gender, type of high school they graduated, and the place where they were raised. For this purpose, 224 undergraduate students majoring in teaching were administered the Turkish version of Barnett's Liking of Children Scale. In addition to quantitative data received from this scale, three open-ended questions were administered to 50 randomly selected participants after the scale administration in a written form. The purpose is to investigate the reasons of their choosing teaching as a profession both in the beginning and at the end of their teacher education. Statistical analysis revealed that female undergraduates' tendency to liking of children is more effective on choosing teaching as a profession. However, other independent variables were found not to be effective. Results of qualitative analysis showed that, liking children, finding a job easily and the suitability of teaching to their personality were the major reasons to choose this job both at the beginning and at the end of teacher education program. The implications for different fields and groups such as teacher education programs, Ministry of National Education, parents and prospective teachers were also provided in the study.

Th e population includes 75.000 academicians from public and private universities. Moreover, the sample, which consists of 3400 academicians, is selected by using systematic sampling. Th e survey method is used and frequency, percent, and Chi-square are conducted to analyze the data. When the results of the study are considered, the academicians valued that the most positive characteristics of their children is to be “honest,” of their students is to be “hard-working,” and of their colleagues is to be ”open-minded.” However, the most negative characteristic of their children is to be a “liar”, of their students and colleagues are to be”inconsistent” in their behaviors.

Research is descriptive and figured according to survey model. Datums of the research were obtained through "Attitude Scale Towards Postgraduate Education" which is built up by Unal and Ilter (2010) and were analyzed through percent, frequency, t-test and single direction variance analysis (One Way ANOVA) statistics techniques. At the research, it has been found out that average of the general attitudes of senior undergraduate students towards the postgraduate education is at the "agree" range; accordingly, it can be said that attitudes of the senior undergraduate students towards the postgraduate education are high. Besides, while the attitudes of the senior undergraduate students towards postgraduate education do not differ according to gender, type of highschool graduated; significant differences are found at the attitudes towards the postgraduate education according to curricula which is studied, general success average, request for academic career and the reason factors for preferring the programme studied.

Development is one of the basic and key issues of the social sciences that due to its importance and the particular status that it has in the transformations of human society, it has attracted the serious attention of many scholars. Given the fact that people's attitudes usually influences their actions and behaviors, and also because attitudes are among the important factors that have an impact on development, since negative attitude about the consequences of development can cause people to resist it, therefore it is necessary to study what factors can affect people's orientation towards development. The present study aims to investigate into social and economic factors that may be related to the developmental orientation of the residents of the city of Shahr-e Kord in the province of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari. The research method employed was survey and data gathering tool was questionnaire. The questions had face validity and their Cronbach's alpha coefficient for reliability was above the 0.7 threshold. The research population consisted of all residents of Shahr-e Kord who were 15 years of age and above, of which, using the Cochran's formula, 384 individuals were selected as the sample. The results showed that the average for developmental orientation was 2.87 of 5. Statistical analysis of the data showed that having external experiences (t= 4.37), gender (t= 5.34), place of residence (f= 5.7), religiosity (r= 0.18), educational level (r= 0.48), and media usage (r= 0.36) were significantly related to developmental orientation.

Feeling of loneliness is a matter that is commonly encountered among adolescents and young adults and should be taken into consideration. This study was conducted for the purpose of determining whether or not there was a correlation between the feeling of loneliness and burnout levels in university students. The purpose of the study is to determine whether or not the feeling of loneliness of university students affects their burnout levels. The sample group of the study consisted of 376 students receiving education in Harran University Vocational School of Healthcare Services. The data were collected using a questionnaire between 01-31 May 2019. UCLA Loneliness Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Form (MBI-SF) were applied to the study group. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression analysis (ANOVA) in the SPSS 20.0. The acquired results show that the scales used in the study has a higher reliability. Similarly, the results of the linear regression analysis ANOVA show that the feeling of loneliness has a significant effect on burnout. In the results of the linear regression analysis ANOVA, it is found out that the feeling of loneliness has a significant effect on the sub-dimensions of burnout. With regard to the standard regression coefficient, it is expected that 1-unit increase in the feeling of loneliness variable causes 0.279-unit increase in the perception of exhaustion variable. The higher the loneliness levels of students are the more the levels of exhaustion increase.

Research data has been gathered by applying the "Barnett Liking of Children Scale" and "Job Satisfaction Scale" to the teachers participated in the research. In the analysis of data, Kruskal-Wallis H Test for independent samples, Mann-Whitney U Test for independent samples, simple correlation, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk normality tests have been used. In consequence of the research, any significant difference has not been found between teachers' levels of loving children and their ages and job seniorities. It has been determined that female teachers' levels of loving children are higher as compared to that of male teachers and primary school teachers have a stronger liking for children than social studies teachers. It was intended in this study to ascertain the relationship between the levels of alienation of the education faculty students, and their attitudes towards the teaching profession. The sample of the research was composed of the 875 students appointed via simple random sampling out of the total population of 2600 of the Education Faculty of Adiyaman University. "Personal Information Form", "Student Alienation Scale", and "Scale of Attitude towards Teaching Profession" were used so as to collect respective data. In the data analysis, t-test for independent groups was conducted so as to determine whether the alienation levels and the attitudes towards the teaching profession varied according to the variables of gender and mode of teaching, while One-Way Analysis of Variance was performed so as to determine whether there was any differentiation according to the variables of program type and class, and Tukey HSD test was computed so as to determine the source of the intergroup difference. Regression analysis was used in order to determine the level of the relationship between the levels of alienation and the attitudes towards the teaching profession. Out of the obtained findings, it was seen that the students experienced a medium level of alienation, while their attitudes towards the teaching profession were at a high level. In the two dimensions, according to the variables of gender and class, meaningful differences were only seen at the level of alienation in view of the variable of the mode of teaching, and the same was seen at the dimension of attitudes towards the teaching profession in view of the program type variable. Meanwhile, a medium level of negative relationship was found between the level of alienation and the attitudes towards the teaching profession.
